Greetings,

I'm trying to apply updates to my Windows 7 SP1 x64 Operating System Image.  SCCM 2012 SP1.

From the OfflineServicingMgr.log

Checking if update (20 of 56) with ID 16808244 needs to be applied on the image. 2 content binarie(s) are associated with the update. $$<SMS_OFFLINE_SERVICING_MANAGER><01-22-2013 15:57:30.489+420><thread=12784 (0x31F0)>

I can't seem to figure out why about 10 updates installed, and the rest just bomb out. I did go ahead and exclude all the folders from the antivirus, even though I'm running SCEP.

Thanks

Hi!

I need your help because i've a little problem with osd deployment, i don't use pxe, i use a usb key and boot on machine target but i have this message "there are no task sequences available for this computer" and i don't understand where is my error. So i need you to have a new look on my problem, i'm on sccm 2012 sp1.

I distributed on my distribution point the windows installers, the wim image (x86), the boot image (x86), and i deploy the task sequence on the good target computer.

Thanks a lot

Failues During OS install

Help please.  At my witts end.  Boss is threating me, now I'm lost and panicing.  I HAVE to use ESX With OUT DHCP.  Every time I try and test I have to type in an IP address.  SO I have to create a TS that Builds a deployment image.  So I create a very basic OS deployment and ask it to build.  Simple Simple At least it Should e but it failes over and over and over and over.  Nothing in the logs, all the logs so ZERO errors.  Nothing to go off of.  No hint.  It fails during the Setup Windows and Config manager.  The odd thing I notice is it starts that step well before Windows finishing running its setup.  It should finish and reboot a few times but never does.  PLEASE help.  Don't want to join the unemployed.

Task Sequence fails on VB6 exe, Could not find CCM Install folder error

I'm trying to get our task sequence working in SCCM 2012 and keep getting this error and can't get past it.

I updated the boot image to include HTA and Scripting support, injected network and SATA drivers into it.  Updated DP's, and created USB boot media pointing to the updated boot image.

The part of the task sequence that fails is rename.exe, which is a VB6 file we created, this works great in SCCM 2007.  We setup variables in the task sequence and then run this exe file that uses the variables.  But in 2012 it fails with this error:   Could not find CCM install folder.  Don't use ccmerrors.dll.   Unknown error (Error C0000135; Source:  Unknown).

I've beaten my head against the wall and can't figure out why it is throwing the error.

Here is part of the log file

Specific model suddenly fails on any "Application" install, packages work fine

$

We have been testing and tweaking our Task Sequence for several weeks now and had previously imaged Lenovo T420s's without issue.  Yesterday we rebuilt a T420s, a T430s, and Optiplex 760 and a Hyper-V VM.  Both T420's fail when they get to a step to install an Application (we disabled the initial app that was failing and experienced the same behavior on any of the Application installs).

Some snippets from smsts.log:
Right before the failure we get "Policy evaluation failed, hr=0x87d00267" followed by "Failed to run the action: Install App123.  Download Failed (Error: 87D00267; Source: CCM)"

In the CIDownloader.log at the same time we see:
GenerateDCMUrlPrefix failed (0x87d00269)
CIDownloaderJob({GUID}): DownloadPackages failed (0x87d00269).
CCIDownloaderJob::StartDownload - MP not found - will retry.
CIDownloaderJob({GUID})::CCIdownloader Job::QuueueRetry - Job is set to fail immediately on error - no retries.
CIDownloaderJob({GUID}): QueueRetry failed (0x87d00267).

In the LocationServices log we see multiple entries of the following about two minutes or so before the failure:
Unable to retrieve AD forest + domain membership
Failed to refresh security settings over MP with error 0x8007054b
No security settings update detected
Retrieved lookup MP [PrimarySiteServerFQDN] from Registry
Attempting to retrieve lookup MP(s) from AD
Using default DNS suffix ourdomain.com
Attempting to retrieve default management point from DNS
Failed to retrieve DNS service record using _mssms_mp_p10._tcp.ourdomain.com lookup DNS returned error 9852
..
Failed to resolve 'MP_P10' from WINS

Now having said all this, there are a few "packages" that download and install immediately before the "application" without issue.  As soon as it hits the application it fails right away.  The applications as it stands are standalone tasks within the TS with a single application specified.

The driver set has not changed for any of the models and are being applied correctly.  Again this issue only affecs the T420s. (haven't tested ALL models yet but of the ones we have tested so far this one fails consistently).  Again, a few weeks ago we were able to build the T420s fine.

I ran a continous ping to the local MP during the packages installing correctly and the applicaiton failure and it stayed consistent with a <1 ms response.

The only tweaks we have made since last installing (that i can recall for sure) was removing the CCMHOSTNAME parameter from the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step as the clinet was intermittently flipping over to "internet" and failing to download package. This issue happened on ALL models we tested. Once we removed that and left only SMSMP=MPFQDN SMSCACHSIZE=7000 CCMLOGMAXSIZE=1000000 builds starting working again...that is until we tested the T420s.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas on what to look for to diagnose this?  We have tested several times and the issue is persistent each time on this model.  We have removed the object from the ConfigMgr database and AD and rebuilt with the same result.  Again we also tested multiple T420s's and get the same result on both.  I am thoroughly stumped on what could be causing this.

Hey everyone,

I was hoping to get some feedback on how others have implemented Zero Touch Installations for OSD (OS Push).  Not looking for detail about your task sequences, more so a high level process view into how you manage and control how OS's are deployed, how you mitigate the risk of accidental deployment, do you allow users to refresh themselves, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Strange Deployment Issue...

Hey guys,

So I'm experiencing a very strange deployment issue... but one I have seen before - which I will come around to.

Basically I have a batch of new laptops - all of them are of the same model and all but the last 3 have been imaged using SCCM 2012. These 3 systems have been setup as objects containing the correct MAC address. All are in my target collection for OSD. When I right-click each of these objects and I select the deployments tab I can OSD task sequences being deployed to each of these 3 systems. They haven't been setup any differently to the other new systems that imaged without a problem. When I pxe boot each of these systems I get the following error...

PXE-E52: proxyDHCP offers were received. No DHCP offers were received.

PXE-M0F: Exiting intel boot agent.

The SMSPXE.log file contains the following as each PXE boot fails to receive the deployed TS. It’s as though there is nothing there for the systems!

I've since PXE booted other systems without problem - it's just these three systems.

As I mentioned I've seen this before - I have a virtual machine that I use as a reference system when capturing images. Each time I create and capture a new image (so about once every 6 months) I have have to recreate the computer capture object in SCCM (as SCCM sees it as inactive over those 6 months and deletes it). HOWEVER, when I create the new object I first have to change the MAC address of the capture VM in hyper-V otherwise the system doesn't see any of the advertised deployments to it (capture) and behaves EXACTLY as above. It's almost as though SCCM holds onto the old MAC somewhere which creates a duplicate in the DB (despite having deleted the object) - it took me a long time to work this out and start changing the MAC each time. The reason I mention this is that one of our Support Engineers who created the objects for the 3 systems in questions “may” (he’s being a bit vague) have created the objects - then deleted them - and then recreated them. Therefore creating an scenario where the MAC is already/has been already in the DB somewhere. Problem being I can’t change the MAC of these 3 systems!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks to anyone that has read this post.

SCCM 2012: multicasting

Hi,

We have a perfectly working SCCM 2012 SP1 OS deployment environment in test.
Now we would like to do further test with network department in order to test multicasting (the ghost-way in order to save bandwith). We now boot with ISO in order to not interfere with current (PXE environment) OS deployment (SCCM 2007).

So there is this "Enable multicast ..." on the distribtion point but what are the next steps?

Clarification on Unknown Computer Support when Building

Does SCCM only use the MAC address to determine if a machine is known? My understanding is this is correct and want to confirm this. Thank you for the information.

Request State Store Fails - 0x00000057

Really odd one here... Running ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 and have an in-place refresh T/S that is using a SMP/USMT. At the Request State Store (before scanstate/backup to SMP) the T/S fails with an 0x00000057 error.

This is happening on multiple machines.

Creating domain User profile during OSD

$

Hi,

i'm moving OSD from MDT 2012 to SCCM 2012 sp1 cu2. I'm deploying Windows server 2003. I need to create domain user profile during "new computer" deployment. In MDT i use run command line, with additional option "load the user's profile" and profile is created where it should be created - c:\documents and settings\user profile. I use the same "run command line" step in SCCM, specify to run this step with credentials of needed user, but profile is created in c:\documents and setings\<Domain Name>\user profile . Any ideas why?

Strange Problem with Unknown Computer Support

My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1. During my initial setup of the primary, I used the SCCM 2012 with SP1 installation media so the installation was never RTM. Today, I started experience a problem with unknown computer support. It started after performed some cleanup of old machines without the SCCM client via deletion from a collection (no direct editing of the database).

Here is what happens. I have my build task sequence deployed as available to the all unknown computers collection. I boot an unknown machine using my USB boot media (same boot image assigned to task sequence). It successfully boots to the welcome screen where I can input a static ip address and proxy information which I do not do. When I click Next, I get the no task sequence available for this computer error.

When I examine smsts.log, I can see that it is the machine is unknown and it is using the unknown machine GUID.

When I look in the All Systems Collection, I see a resource called unknown and it has the same MAC address of the machine I trying to build. When I see what deployments are available to unknown, it does not have any listed. If I delete unknown and try again, I get the same error and unknown reappears without any deployments to it.

I do not see how my early cleanup could have been cause since unknown computers x86 and x64 cannot be deleted via a collection (delete is grayed out on them).

Does anyone have any ideas on the cause? Thank you for the assistance.

Hey,

Slow PXE booting on Hyper-V VM.

Has Anyone experienced issues when trying to PXE boot a Hyper-V  VM for OSD?

It's taking about 30-45 minutes to look the WinPE .wim file.

Are there drivers I need to inject into my boot.wim?   I have already added the Legacy Network adapter.

thanks

A few days ago I created a fresh W7 SP1 image with the build and capture TS. I've used offline servicing to apply the latest updates to the image. See the attached screenshot.

For example 2479943. I've deployed the image on a notebook in a workgroup. After deployment the notebook automaticaly searches for windows updates and it give all available updates (also 2479943). Also the updates i've serviced into the image. Does anyone know what is going wrong?

Hello, I am receiving the errors below and my Task sequence is failing after the Configuration Manager is installed.

I can post more of the log if necessary. I was hoping someone could tell me more about the "Environment Key".

Thank you!

I am trying to get multicast to work on a DP. But when I kick off an OSD and get to one of the items that I have enabled multicasting (lets say the OS image) then I get the following in the smsts.log:

Failed to get MCS key (Code 0x80004005)
ClientRequestToMCS::DoRequest failed. error = (0x80004005)
Request to MCS 'MYSCCMSERVER.SCCM.LOCAL' failed with error (Code 0x80004005)
Multicast OpenSessionRequest failed (0x80004005)
Sending status message: SMS_OSDeployment_PackageDownloadMulticastStatusFail

And then it reverts to a normal HTTP download. Why is this failing?
