ConfigMgr 2012 R2 - Unable to add Operating System Installer

I am somehow struggling to add Windows 7 SP1 (x64) as an Operating System Installer into my SCCM 2012 R2 Console.   The SMSAdminUI.log shows "Failed to get the image property from the source WIM file due to error 8007007e".

I can add a Windows XP SP3 Operating System Installer into the console from the same share (same NTFS permissions) - and I can add the same Windows 7 SP1 (x64) source files as an Operating System Installer into a parallel ConfigMgr 2007 R3 environment - so I know the ISO/Share and files are good.

Is this an R2 bug? Could anyone please confirm that they have and are able to add Windows 7 SP1 (x64) as an OS Installer into SCCM 2012 R2?

Before anyone says "use the install.wim as an OSImage" - yes, I USUALLY do this - however, there is an apparent problem with R2 in that I am unable to create prestaged media using a wim containing only a single image - and it's not possible (with whatever permutation of OSDPreserveDriveLetter you choose) to build and capture a multi-partition (BDEDrive + OSDisk) image with WINDOWS being on C: using the install.wim.  So I HAVE to, reluctantly, go back to using the Operating System Installer method now so that I can create a new reference image with the OS being on 2-2.

Thanks!
