I am trying to install packages during OSD and they have seemed to stop installing after upgrading to SCCM 2012 R2. I have read that I need to deploy the KB2905002 during OSD. I have tried this and now I get this error message from the Client log.

File C:\WINDOWS\ccmsetup\{181D79D7-1115-4D96-8E9B-5833DF92FBB4}\client.msi installation failed. Error text: ExitCode: 1635

Here is what I have tried. This has not worked for. Has anyone come across this issue?

  • Create a new package called Configuration Manager Client Package with Hotfixes
    1. On a file server, under a share, create a folder called Configuration Manager Client Package with Hotfixes (let's refer to this as "New Client Package Source Folder")
    2. Copy the contents of your site server's \\SERVER\SMS_<SITECODE>\Client\ folder into the new client package source folder
    3. Create a Hotfixes folder inside the new client package source folder
    4. Copy the Client folder from the site server's \\SERVER\SMS_<SITECODE>\Hotfix\KB2905002\folder into the Hotfixes folder
    5. In the ConfigMgr console, add a new package with the new client package source share location, with no program specified.  Make note of the Package ID, you'll need this for steps below (let's refer to this as "Your PkgID")
    6. Put the new client package on your distribution points.
  • Use the new package in your task sequence step "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager"
    1. Find your Windows 8.1 Enterprise (x64) task sequence, right-click and select Edit
    2. Find the Setup Windows and Configuration Manager step
    3. On the Properties tab of this step, click the Browse button
    4. Select the new client package you created in step 1 above
    5. Click Ok
    6. Click Apply, but do not close the task sequence editor
  • Set the Installation properties to include "PATCH=…" for the hotfix
    1. Open Notepad, and enter the following:
      PATCH="%_SMSTSMDataPath%\OSD\YOURPKGID\Hotfix\KB2905002\Client\x64\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"
    2. Change YOURPKGID to the package id from your new client package (step 1e above)
    3. Paste the new "PATCH=" string into the Installation Properties text box on theProperties tab
    4. Click Ok to save your changes to the task sequence
