Best / Fastest Method: Applying Bitlocker During OSD

Good Morning Guys -

I recently started at a company which has had an existing SCCM 2012 OSD task sequence for a while.  The task I've been working on recently is fine tuning and updating this task sequence.  I wanted to post a quick, newb question about the best method to apply BitLocker, please.

Our company uses BitLocker, but currently, the OSD task sequence doesn't encrypt the disk during the OSD task sequence, itself. The reason for this is due to the time it takes to encrypt the disk.  Therefore, once the TS finishes, one of the techs manually starts the encryption process which takes 45 - 90 minutes on average depending on if the PC has an SSD.

I'm not yet familiar with how they have BitLocker configured, but would it not be possible to apply BitLocker & encrypt the drive prior to applying the WIM therefore making the encrypting the dataless disk not take much time at all?  I believe I've worked with task sequences which have done so in the past, but never worked too much with that part of it.

The encryption is taking so long during builds, that they are currently looking at other solutions so this could be a big help.  I know this may seem like a true newb question, but basically didn't know if Bitlocker could be applied as Truecrypt was (where only existing data was encrypted then data added later would be encrypted on the fly) - or - if the entire disk requires processing no matter how much data exists.

Thanks guys!

Ben K.
