PXE Boot and Boot Image architecture SCCM 2012 SP1

Hi All,

From what I understand the architecture for the boot image during PXE boot must match the architecture of the boot imaged used in the task sequence and therefore match the architecture of the deployed operating system. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

We have a mix of clients running x64 and x86 Windows 7. During PXE boot I'm having trouble with determining which architecture kicks off depending on whether or not I need to image an x64 based client or x86. This is easy enough to control in the task sequence, I can also look at the properties of the boot image, select Data Source and uncheck the option to "Deploy this boot image from the PXE-enabled distribution point" option if I don't want to use a particular boot image. I've found even doing this causes problems. If I disable the x86 boot image then try to PXE boot a device that needs the x64 boot image (the x64 boot image is PXE-enabled) then the device doesn't pick up the boot image and times out Contacting Server..........

What's the go there? There must be a more simple solution. I have also tried updating the distribution point when I wanted to use the x64 Boot image in order to put it at the front of the queue, this didn't work either.

Thanks for any feedback!

P
