I find my X86 and X64 OS task sequences are very like, especially the software installation section.
So in order to reduce maintenance time. I want to create one task to deploy X86 & X64 win7.(I create a hta script to let usersselect OS Bit version ), make this task boot from X86 boot image. I find the following information.
I find it very strange. Why can't install 64bit package with X86 boot image?
I think after install "setup Windows and configMgr", It will transition from WINPE(X86) to the new operating system(X64), the new OS is 64bit, It should be able to install a 64bit package.

We are currently running Configuration Manager 2012 R2
The site has been installed for about a year. Recently our task sequence for OSD stopped working saying that the Configuration manager client package cannot be located on the distribution point. I have checked
all of the packages and the status shows as ok. I have tried redistributing packages and even tried removing the distribution point role and re-adding the content but we still have the same issue.
Hi
I'm getting this error through OSD
SCCM 2012
it's work fine in the Lenovo NoteBook , but for the HP is NOT/failed and getting error below
Btw, I'm using the USB to deploy the Win7 OS

Can a task sequence setup for collection variables be used with different collections [each with different collection variables] and each having a unique deployment?

I want to run ADSI script to check if there is a computer in domain. If I find this computer account already exists in domain then you can join domain. My script as below.
But it can't work in winpe. it said "Table does not exist" of code "Set objRecordSet = objCommand.Execute". BTW, this script run fine in standard system and the boot image had been installed all cab plugin(Script,WMI...).
I know it should miss some ADSI related plugin. I want to know how to make this script work or how to check if there is a computer acount in domain.
strUser="Name" strPassword="Password" PcName="Computer" Const ADS_SCOPE_SUBTREE = 2 Const ADS_SECURE_AUTHENTICATION = &H1 Const ADS_SERVER_BIND = &H200 Dim objConnection, objCommand, objRecordSet Set objConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set objCommand = CreateObject("ADODB.Command") objConnection.Provider = "ADsDSOObject" objConnection.Properties("User ID") = strUser objConnection.Properties("Password") = strPassword objConnection.Properties("Encrypt Password") = True objConnection.Properties("ADSI Flag") = ADS_SERVER_BIND Or ADS_SECURE_AUTHENTICATION objConnection.Open "Active Directory Provider" Set objCommand.ActiveConnection = objConnection objCommand.Properties("Page Size") = 1000 objCommand.Properties("Searchscope") = ADS_SCOPE_SUBTREE objCommand.CommandText = "SELECT ADsPath FROM 'LDAP://dc=abc,dc=com' WHERE objectCategory='computer' AND Name='" & PcName & "'" Set objRecordSet = objCommand.Execute If objRecordSet.PageCount Then IsPCname="True" Else IsPCname="False" End If WScript.Echo IsPCname
Suddenly both my build and capture TS and install TS fail at the "setup windows and configuration manager" step - OSD with Configuration Manager 2012 R2 step. I can't remember if I changed something that might affect it.
When I look in the logs i have two files. A smsts.log and a second smsts with some digits.
I'm going to post them in attachment, since I can't find the error in them.

Greetings,
I was curious if anyone has experienced a similar issue where your PXE enabled DP receives a TFTP request, but then fails with "Error Code 63: Illegal TFTP Operation, Message: Access violation." We are cutting our teeth on PXE and this is our first attempt to get it working. It took a bit of work with our network team to get the boot path configured, and argue between forward slashes or backward slashes, lol. PXE Clients can reach the DP now obviously, but not beyond that. Media based TS are working flawlessly, so we know the mechanics are in order. As a sidebar, does anyone know where the "WDSServer" account is being issued for the REMINST share? I can't find it on the local machine or in the domain.
The first screenshot is the PXE error on the DP. The second screenshot is the sneaky WDSServer account.
Where ever you go, there you are.
We have a task sequence that fails to install software and updates with an error liek this: Operation System Error 615: The password you provided was too short for the computers password policy. Please provide a longer password.
With all software installations I always tick the continue on failure. Consequently in a task sequence you see the entire list of installation requirements fail with this error. This includes Applications, Packages and Software Updates. Without any amendment, the next time it is run, it runs successfully. Add to this the issue that the task sequence no longer displays the progress bar after rebooting into windows (x64) and it all points to the OSD process being a bit flaky.
By the way, we are installing Win7 x64 (No x86 anymore) over PXE.
So any pointers with this would be very gratefully received.

Greetings,
My task sequence gets nearly all the way through, installing all sorts of apps and then it hangs launching a particular app. On some machines it doesnt hang. When I look at smsts.log I have these lines repeating forever:
Failed to create instance if Software Execution Request Managerr. 0x80070005
Waiting for ccmexec process to start.
These two lines repeat every 5 seconds until I force the power off of the machine.
It appears that 80070005 sometimes is an access denied thing but that doesnt explain why %95 of the task sequence before this step works or why this step has no problem on other machines.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
We need to move a certain list (Excel) of pc's from one collection to another.
Is there an easy way to do this? Reimporting pc's with their mac is not an option, that would create duplicates.

I'm brand new to SCCM as we're just getting the server setup at work. We have a basic image working but I want to be able to include installing the latest Bios update from Dell any time a machine gets reimaged.
I've looked online and have found people who do this via Powershell, some via a Package, some via the Dell Toolkit, nd many with previous versions of sccm. Can anyone point me to a walkthrough of how I can do this with SCCM 2012? Whatever is the easiest to implement so we can get this up and running would be great. I can look at enhancing it later once we've at least got it working.
Thanks!

Hi all,
I am having further issues with trying to multicast a WIM during OSD. I am running SCCM 2012 R2.
The error reported in mcsprv.log is this: CContentDefinition::GetFileProperties failed; 0x80070003
The local path which is specified is correct and exists: LocalPath: E:\SCCMContentLib\DataLib\SU200225.3
I have searched this error and read some people suggest it can happen when you place a no sms on drive file on the drive where the content library is held but this is not the case.
I have recently added an additional drive to the distribution point / content library so that now the distribution point is spread over two drives. Would this cause an issue?
Anyone have any suggestions how I can troubleshoot and resolve this issue?
Thanks,
Jay
Hi guys,
We are learning how to display images from SCCM 2012 SP1 but after reading a lot and solving other problems, we are having problems just with the format step. In my company we have laptops that have a single hard drive and 3 partitions. 1º boot(100 mb) 2º system(100gb) 3º data(remaining space).
if we eliminate the step of formatting in the ts and we create partitions manually, the installation starts and when finish of apply the operating system image and reboot, the system doesn´t start. If we leave the step format runs without problems but delete all the data in the disk.
is there any way not deleting the existing data partition??
Thx for all!!!!!!
I know this is not really a OSD question but in my task sequence I run a PS1 script that copies down a printer mapping script and then updates the registry to run this script when users log into the machine.
$RegistryPath="HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
$Name=”MGHPrinterSetup”
$Value='cscript "c:\windows\MGH\Machine Printer.vbs"'
NEW-ITEMPROPERTY $RegistryPath -Name $Name -Value $Value
This code works but with one caveat it launches a CMD window that stays up for about 20 seconds. How do I prevent that? I don't see a silent option for cscript /? We need this to run silently.
