Task Failure 0X80070490

After I capture and image and set it up for an MDT deployment I get this task Sequence failed 0x80070490. I did some research and tried changing the image from 1-1 to 2-2 and I still get the error.

Trying to import drivers, anyone ever run across FOLDERS that are named with a .INF?

I am using the excellent driver import script from http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/automate-importing-and-creating-drivers-packages-in-sccm-2012-r2/ to try and import drivers from Dell and HP.

We got these drivers from the Dell driver CAB website, same with HP.

We've extracted these drivers and are now attempting to import them.  For the most part this works well, but there are some drivers that have a FOLDER in their path that has .INF in the FOLDER name. The script (I think) is seeing that folder name and treating it as a driver .INF file, and failing to import it. An example is below.

These folders do have drivers in them, but the script is stopping before going any deeper, since it thinks these folders are actually driver files. Has anyone else run across this? I imagine you have if you're using the Dell and HP CAB files, which I suspect many people are. Is there any reason these folders are named like this? Can I remove the .INF from the folder names and re-run the script? Will this cause any problems down the road?

When I add prestart to MDT boot image in SCCM 2012 SP1 R2 , It launches HTA wizard.hta .

How is this boot image able to launch this HTA without adding HTA support to this MDT boot image ?

I double checked Optional components tab and there is no HTA optional component added to this boot image.

Missing MP causes application install in B&C TS to fail

$

Greetings,

I have created a build and capture task sequence that fails when I try to install an application. Packages work just fine. The error messages in smsts.log indicates that the TS is not able to find the MP, but other parts of the TS obviously does. The action"Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" uses the default client package last updated by SCCM when I upgraded from SCCM 2012 SP1 to R2. I refer to the MP in the Installation Properties in the correct way, as SMSMP=hostname.domain.tld

Do anyone have any experience with similar situations? Is there something I am missing?

Thank you,

Jonas

SMPs not deleting user state as configured

We have CM2012 SP1 R2.  Some of our SMPs are running out of space.  They are configured to delete user state data after 14 days but I see in some cases there is older user state data sitting on the SMP taking up space.

First question is why is the user state data not deleting after 14 days as configured on the SMP properties?

Second question is, is it safe to delete these folders manually?  Or is there a better method to "clean-up" the old user state folders?

Thanks much!

SMS TS Environment and getting Variable via PS

$

Hi guys and fellow sufferes :),

I am in trouble with a PS script running inside as TaskSequence ...

A collection-variable (e.g. "Language") is given (entered by the installer) and I am trying to get the value inside a Powershell Script...

$TSEnv=New-Object-COMObjectMicrosoft.SMS.TSEnvironment

$NewVariable = $TSEnv.Value ("Language")

Unfortunately I am not the PS crack... only what I want to archive is to have the value of the collection variable Language in a Powershell Variable .. If I debug the TS and run a GetVariables() I do see a list of all TS Variables... including my own "Language Variable" ...

Someone any idea/hint !?

Thanks in advance !

OSD No Longer Works

Up until yesterday everything was working in regards to our OSD.  Then, all of a sudden today no applications or packages will install in our Task Sequence.  Absolutly nothing changed!!   No changes were made to CM2012 or to the OSD.   Packages that were installing for the past 3 weeks now don't.    We are running CM2012 5.00.7958.1000

Here is the SMSTS.LOG file.

SCCM 2012 OSD Retain Computer Name on re-image rebuild

$

I am migrating our PC workstation Windows 7 build process from MDT 2010 lite touch to SCCM 2012 zero touch. Everything is working expect one thing.

When I re image a PC, if the PC is already known to AD I want it to keep the previous machine name, so that it retains its collection memberships for software. If I put the PC into the collection that the OSD task sequence is advertised to, the machine successfully rebuilds with the same machine name. Starting from Windows - i.e the configuration manager client.

If I initiate the rebuild via PXE boot the machine gets a new name.

I have read that if the OS is booted from PXE or boot media then the deployment type is new computer. But if the TS is advertised to an existing client and initiated from the config manager client, the deployment type is refresh.

I'm currently using itx-solutions.nl AutoNameControl to get RIS style naming i.e. PC-123, PC-124 etc.

When I used MDT and lite touch I used MaikKoster Deployment Webservice and obtained the machine name via the GetComputerNameByNetbootGuid service. This worked perfectly. I don't know what exactly sets this in AD, but have noticed the PC's built with SCCM have no value for NetbootGuid so this doesn't work.

How do I always get the PC to retain the same name on rebuild?

use certutil during OSD task sequnce to install a trusted root certification authority certificate

I have an application that I need to install during OSD.  As part of this application installation, it needs to make some web service calls to a 3rd party service via https.  Since at the point of OS deployment group policy has not pushed down the certs needed by our bluecoat server, the request is blocked and the application install fails.

I am using certutil to install the cert and the script I am using validates that the cert is installed but when that step completes and it moves on to the next step of installing the application if fails and when I look in the certificates snap-in the certificate is not there.

Is there any special trick to get the certificate to install during OSD?

2 questions - missing boot image, create mdt task sequence button missing

I'm learning SCCM 2012.  I am watching a training video and the instructor shows a "Create MDT Task Sequence" button at the top of his ribbon bar when going into Task Sequence.  I do not have this button - where did it go?  I am using 2012 SP1.

All I see is "Create Task Sequence" and "Create Task Sequence Media" but not "Create MDT Task Sequence".

Also - I only have an x86 boot image, and no x64.  How do I get this into my inventory?

Thank you

Nathan

Created Task Sequence, enabled PXE - but nothing happening

$

Can someone brief me on the overall process to install an OS on a target device?  I'm a little confused when it comes to Collections and Task Sequences.

Here's my scenario:  I have, as a test, a single computer I want to target and install Win7 on.  I've created a Task Sequence etc. and I think that is OK (wim file imported, using a x86 boot image, etc.....), I enabled PXE with parameters 66/67 on my DHCP server to point to the SCCM server, etc.

During PXE boot, it contacts the SCCM server, but gives me "Pending Request ID: 5   Message from Administrator Please wait SMS is looking for Policy..." - nothing happens.

My questions are 1) help on resolving this issue.  2) I think my problem may be something in my Task Sequence or boot image setup somewhere and 3) how do I target only certain computers from being wiped out and upgraded?  I'm a little confused on the concept of "Collections".  I do not want computers unintentionally PXE booting and installing/formatting drives.

Thank you

Nathan

Capture Media and running Task Sequence gets error 0x80004005 and TSMBAutorun.log error

Hi All,

I've been stuck on this for a while now, trying to figure out why I am getting the following error in the

TSMBAutorun.log file

<![LOG[TSMBAutoRun started]LOG]!><time=13:0:0 date=0-1-1970 component="TSMBautorun" context="" type="1">
<![LOG[Unknown system architecture 0]LOG]!><time=13:0:0 date=0-1-1970 component="TSMBautorun" context="" type="1">

The Unknown System Architecture is strange, the only reason I think of getting it is that the Motherboard/BIOS is NCR not your normal HP etc..

The OS is Windows 7 x86 Pro of the domain nothing special on it, just trying to capture a image of it with SCCM 2012. Even tired a TS to capture it, but I disabled the Partition Disk, apply OS, as I just wanted the Capture part of it but got the same error as above and same error in the log file.

Any ideas?

Using Native MDT to build images - then deploy using SCCM

$
0

Greetings,

I recently watched a webcast from the MS deployment guys and they were insistent that images were built using native MDT, not SCCM. This requires a separate standalone WSUS which is not a real problem.

For people who agree with this, I was interested in your experience of the advantages of doing this.

These are some that have been stated here (http://bit.ly/QSHqt3):

"Using MDT 2013 Lite Touch is simply faster in most cases"

I dont understand this one - why should it be faster?

"You can use the same image for every type of OS deployment (VDI, SCVMM, MDT, ConfigMgr, WDS, and more)"

Can't the WIM file generated by SCCM built images be used everywhere?

"You don’t need to worry about any challenges related to running everything in the LocalSystem context"

What does this mean exactly (examples please)?

"You don’t need to worry about the ConfigMgr task sequence suppressing UI interaction"

  What do they mean here?

And are software updates really that much of a pain with SCCM built images?

Lastly - do people always build images from scratch or do they feed the output wim back into the next build process and just add the changes required (like software updates)?

Thanks

Issues with State Migration Point during OSD. But not when in windows

Hi everyone, I've had some terrible issues with my SCCM 2012 SP1 SMP that I would say is a bit anoying.
I have two servers installed as sitesystems, the first one is a site server with MP, SUP, SMP, DP etc. and the second one is only a DP and SMP.

When the clients is requesting state store from the server that is _only_ a smp and a dp, the client gets no bad answers from it.

Hello,

When I deploy a mandatory OSD task sequence, the client pc's receives the request, however, a "Mandatory Task Sequence" messages appears saying that the OS deployment will commence in 180 seconds.

Is there an option to disable this warning or reduce the timeout value of 180 seconds ?

Thanks

OSD: discover SCCM 2007/Vista pc's in SCCM 2012?

Hi,

We have Windows Vista machines in SCCM 2007 to which we would like to deploy/upgrade an SCCM 2012 client. We have a collection "Vista-to-Windows-7" in which we import the Vista machines. Next thing is to push the sccm 2012 client.
Once installed, an available deploy can be started by users to install Windows 7.

Now, we would like this "Vista-to-Windows-7" collection to contain Vista pc's which are in a certain group so we can easily manage which pc's will do this on demand migration (Windows 7 pc's should not appear since they don't need the SCCM 2012 client to be pushed).
Note: push installation can't be automated to this AD-group (only via package), right?

Now the problem is that Vista pc's don't appear in the collection though the group discovery is correct.
Not sure though if Vista pc's that have sccm 2007 can be disovered in SCCM 2012?

query:

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.Obsolete = 0 and SMS_R_System.OperatingSystemNameandVersion like "Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 6.0%" and SMS_R_System.SystemGroupName = "domain\pcstobemigrated'

Please advise.
