Install Software Updates Step fails during Build and Capture

$

I have run into a problem while attempting to use the Install Software Update task during a build and capture task sequence.  I have MDT 2012U1 integrated into SCCM 2012.

The Install Software steps find and use the Deployment Points fine and the Use Toolkit steps similarly are able to download their source files from the distribution points using the Network Access account.  The Install Software Updates step, however fails with an access denied error in the CAS.log.

I have found that I can work around this problem by setting the DP to allow anonymous access.  After checking this box, the software updates install during the build and capture task sequence.  Unchecking the Allow anoymous makes the problem recur.

I would like to not have to have the "allow anonymous access" enabled on the DPs for obvious reasons.  Other packages download correctly from the DP with anonymous access disabled - they use the network access account.  Install Software Updates is the only step that seems unable to use that account to talk with the DP.

Is this a known issue?  Is there a work around?

Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt

Hi,

I am trying to deploy windows 7 64bit to an HP Z620 workstation and during the deployment (about half way through) I get a black screen stating that a "Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt" and then it fails.

I checked that task sequence have I checked the option to "Select the mass storage driver that must be installed before config mgr installs......." and I selected the Intel c600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controller driver. But it is still failing with the same message. I also have an option for a wmi query select * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE Model like "HP Z620 Workstation" so maybe somehow it is skipping that?  Any ideas on what else I can try? TIA

Windows 7 x64 capture fails

Hello:

I am trying to capture an installation of Windows 7 Professional x64. It was installed with only one big partition for both boot and OS.

I need to capture it and save it to a WIM file for OS deployment.

The process starts OK. It makes the sysprep and then restart. When restart is done, it starts the process scanning the volume, then start to capture and captures just a little more than 200 MB and then the machine restarts with no message.

Where can I find the log? It obvious that the capture fails, but I would like to know when and how fails.

I hope you can help me.

Thank you in advance.

SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 - Drivers Not Installing, Local Administrator Account Disabled

After PXE OSD for a Thick Image of Win 7 x64 Ent completes, several Task Sequence steps are not complete. Namely, 3 device drivers are missing (NIC, SM Bus and some other chipset driver), the built-in Administrator Account is disabled and it's not Domain joined.

I have already re-created the thick WIM twice. It was built in a VMware VM then captured with SCCM Capture Media. The NIC is a Realtek and I have downloaded the most recent version of the drivers from HP's site and added them to a driver package which is deployed. I even added several older drivers to my Boot Image and created to 2 steps to add drivers in the Task Sequence - one automatically installs the best drivers, the other installs a package with 7 NIC drivers. When I get the error during PXE OSD, I press F8 and the machine has an IP address and the driver for the NIC appears to be correct. Upon rebooting, Windows completes setup but the Administrator Account is not enabled and the NIC driver is missing, etc.

Here is the portion of the log where errors begin to show up (from D:\SMSTSLog). Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Hello @ all,

following situation:

SCCM 2012 R2 CU3
Windows 7 Embedded Sp1 x64
5 additional Language Packs

when I deploy an captured Image (LPs included) to a VM, after the first boot into OS, I will be prompted to choose the language.
After selecting the language, the Task Sequence continues. I´m using an unattended file to select the language.

SCCM is removing configured register values after OSD

$

Hello!

Im trying to deploy Windows Embedded 8.1 with alot of configured register values, the problem is that SCCM is running some "cleanup" when the task sequence is completed so my configured values is reset or deleted.

I've found this blog post regarding MDT 2010 cleaning up register values.. But I don't really understand how this works in SCCM.

The values that SCCM "resets" is the following:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

"AutoAdminLogon"="1"

"DefaultPassword"="User"

I know that my script that im running is working since I'm via regedit can see that the values are set under the OSD.

Also tried to use the SMSTSPostAction variable with a simple .bat script that add the register values without success..

Any suggestions how i can solve this?

Thank in advance!

Driverstore close to 20gigs after OSD install

Hi, when Imaging as new system with OSD 2012 that has an nvidia card, when the setup is finished with no errors, if we look in the driverstore, we see about 18gigs of data for the nvidia driver.

This doesn't make any sense as the driver package is about 250mb so extracted/installed shouldn't be that big.

Has anyone ever encountered this and/or have any solutions workaround other than delete the driverstore content with pnputil or dism.

Thks in advance,

DHCP SCOPE Option 67 string value for OS deployment

I am completely new to OS Deployment and very less knowledge on dhcp. We are using SCCM2012 in our environment.  I am confused on  what should be the string value for DHCP 67 OPTION . Does the \ back slash make any difference when setting a string value. for example- \\smsboot\x64\wdsnbp.com or \smsboot\x64\wdsnbp.com or would i need to specify the complete path where  remote install folder is located  for example \\server name\c$\remoteinsall\smsboot\x64\wdsnbp.com .I cant test myself due to restrictions in our organization as the DHCP servers are handled by other team . Appreciate your help!!!

Build and Capture Task Sequence does not install NIC drivers even though they have been injected into boot image

Hello,

I have been trying to solve this problem all day. I am trying to run a Build and Capture Task Sequence over PXE, and the computer is exiting the task sequence at the point where it is trying to capture the image with the error code 0x8007002.

After some research I have discovered that at that this is a network error. After the task sequence failed I have ran the commandipconfig /all which has shown me that the Local Area Connection adapter doesn't exist. Looking in device manager confirms that the driver for the ethernet controller is missing.

I have "injected' the correct network driver by right clicking on the Boot Image and selecting Properties, then selecting the driver I have added.

I have confirmed that this network driver is correct by installing it onto the test device after it has failed the task sequence by using the command devmgmt.msc and finding the hardware device and installing the driver off a flash drive. Although the task sequence did not continue I was able to verify that I could now get an IP.

Relevant sections of the smsts.log file:

The entire smsts.log file can be viewed at this link (it was too big to post here): http://pastebin.com/w6XMatAF

Does anyone know why this issue is occurring and how to solve it?

Thanks.

nearest DP

Dear all, I have a requirement to find nearest DP in the task sequence in SCCM 2012 R2 CU. The reason for it is that i am connecting to network share in task sequence and this network share is a SCCM package share. I need some files which are required during task sequence. I have hardcoded \\dp\packageshare in the connect to network folder step in task sequence. I want to make sure that whereever the task sequence is run we package share connected is from nearest dp. Mine is a custom task sequence which will always run in WinPE and will not have any steps for sccm client installation. Please suggest.

HP ZBook 15 G1 stuck in reboot

When applying our standard task sequence to a HP ZBook 15 G1, it stucks at "Setup will continue after restarting your computer" after round about 2h it processes the reboot and continues as usual.

Therfore it makes no difference if we use automatic driver detection or if we assign the driver package based on the HP provided drivers.

Any idea where we can start to investigate why or which log file we need to look on?

Thanks in advance.

I want to know best practice on how to install the SCCM client via MDT 2013 as a post install task sequence? Im deploying a lot of machines via MDT offline USB....

Is it grabbing the ccmsetup folder and using the following command line?

ccmsetup.exe /noservice /MP:<insert> SMSSITECODE=<insert> smscachesize=10000

OSD TS application download fails after reboot - client incorrectly believes it "is on internet"

Hello,

Our  SCCM infrastructure is configured to use SSL and it’s working, no problems in daily operation.

However, our windows 7 osd task sequence has an issue after a “reboot computer” step, on a single specific computer.

The OSD TS looks as follows (cannot put screenshot due to account verification issue

Setup Operating System
- Setup Windows and Configuration Manager
- Install Updates

Standard Software
- Install Default Apps
- Install Adobe
- Restart Computer
- Install MS Apps
- Install Antivirus

"Install default apps” and “install adobe” works correctly. All app packages are downloaded and installed without errors.

Then “restart computer” runs, also ok.

Then “install ms apps” tries to install Office 2010 and lync. This and the following install steps all fail with this message in the task sequence report:

“DownloadFailed – execution status received: 24 (Application download failed)”

I opened a debug command line on the affected client with F8 and captured the logfiles.

it seems the Client believes it is "on the Internet" after the reboot, and tries to contact our Internet-facing DP.

The strange thing is, this currently only happens on a single dell precision T7610, on a different computer (for example, dell latitude e6330, or a vmware test system) this does not happen, and after reboot, SCCM TS continues to install software normally.

Does anyone have an idea or a hint what is going on?

SCCM2012 SP1: rename computer to MAC address during OSD

Dears, i'm trying to rename the computers during the OSD process to it's MAC addresses. i want to do it by SCCM only without MDT integration because we have SCCM SP1 and MDT 2012 and we're tending to deploy Windows 8.1. and we're alredy deploying Windows 8.1 with no issues. i'm using the following script:

Set env = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment")
Set ProgressUI = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TsProgressUI")
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\.\root\cimv2")
Set IPConfigSet = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT MACAddress FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration " & "WHERE IPEnabled=true" )

ProgressUI.CloseProgressDialog

For Each IPConfig In IPConfigSet
  env("OSDComputerName") = Left(Replace(IPConfig.MACAddress,":",""),12)
  WScript.Echo env("OSDComputername")

Next

and i'm using it in a  package after apply operating system step as shown in the following snapshot:

however the machine get named Minintxxxx and the step gives code 0 as a return code which means successfully completed.

any help please?

Windows Update cycle

Hello,

i created a Software Update Group and deployed it to a Collection with a defined mainteance Window. In the SUG, Updates are included which are needing a few restarts.

The aim of the hole Thing was, that the computers do few resatrts in the night and at the next moring all updates should be installed.

The Problem:

I saw in the logs that only a part of the updates were installed. I the Event logs I saw that the update cycle only runs one in 24hours.

Could I change the cycle to run more often?

Machines cannot PXE boot using SCCM 2012 DP

$

There are a lot of posts about PXE boot, but I can't find the common thread to tie them all together.  My test machines cannot PXE boot.
My lab environment is very simple:

10.10.0.0/24 subnet

10.10.0.10 = W2k8 R2 DC, DHCP, DNS

10.10.0.11 = SCCM2012 (on W2k8R2 with SQL Server 2008 SP3 and CU4)

All machines are Hyper-V virtual machines connecting through the same virtual network.

Setup the PXE service from DP properties.  I let SCCM install WDS.  WDS in Server Manager does not have a server node, but the WDS service is running.  DP PXE tab is configured as follows:
"Enable PXE support for clients" is checked
"Allow this distribution point to resond to incoming PXE requests" is checked
"Enable unknown computer support" is checked
"Require a password when computers use PXE" is not checked
"User device affinity" is set to "Allow user device affinity with automatic approval"
PXE is configured to respond on all network interfaces
The PXE server response delay is 0 seconds

The DHCP server has options configured as follows:
Option 66: 10.10.0.11
Option 67: smsboot\x86\wdsnbp.com

Both DP and MP on SCCM server are configured for HTTP.

Both x86 and x64 boot images have been distributed to DP.  The media was updated after PXE was enabled on the DP.

Both x86 and x64 boot images have "Deploy this image from the PXE service point" enabled on the Data Source tab of their properties.

I have tried both unknown computer task sequence and a computer import task sequence (old computer association).  They all end in abortpxe.com

Complete PXE response is as follows:

I've been hammering this for about 10 hours now (or to be honest, it's been hammering me) and it must be something very simple I'm missing.  I have a feeling that I'm doing something I used to do in 2007 and whatever that is, it does not work in 2012.

If I connect using boot media, Task Sequences execute perfectly.

SCCM 2012 R2: Build and Capture - Windows 8.1 prompting for network

$

I have upgraded my SCCM 2012 SP1 (CU2) to SCCM 2012 R2 and I am attempting to Build and Capture Windows 8.1 Enterprise. Everything is perfect except for the OS prompting for a network selection during the process, if I click "next" on that screen the Capture finishes without incident. The same is true of the Deploy as well...

Is this a bug from my upgrade?
