Windows PE - TimeZone

$

Hey,

I have a very strange behavior.
During SCCM PXE deployment I use windows PE.
If I boot first time into windows PE the property "Win32_TimeZone" -> Bias or ActiveTimeBias or TimeZoneKeyName are all correct. (Same with the registry keys in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation)

If I now restart again into windows PE (e.g. because the Windows PE loaded from WDS is a different one then the one assigned to TaskSequence or because I do a restart into Windows PE assigned to Task Sequence) the properties are all set to "Pacific Standard Time".

Does anyone know where this comes from?
Is there a fix available for it?

Thank you for help

SCCM 2012 R2 + Surface Pro 1 PXE boot failure Windows Deployment Services error 0xc0000022 caused by Secure Boot

$

0

This is less of a question and more of a posting for anyone else who runs into this problem, though I would love to know why this is happening.

Last week everything was working fine. The server was not changed since then.

When I PXE boot a Surface Pro 1 with Secure Boot enabled from our SCCM 2012 R2 server the boot process fails with a message displayed on the Surface Pro "Windows Deployment Services error 0xc0000022". Disabling Secure Boot allows the PXE boot and OS image to succeed. Secure Boot can then be reenabled after Windows 8.1 has been loaded.

I can PXE boot normally a Surface Pro 3 or any other computer we have, but multiple Surface Pro 1 tablets won't boot unless Secure Boot is disabled.

The last file pulled by the Surface Pro 1 before it errors out is: SMSBoot\x64\bootmgfw.efi.

The SCCM server is running Windows Server 2012 R2. The Surface Pros that I tested had a variety of firmware revisions, including the latest one from August 2014. It is possible that the ones that I imaged last week had really old firmware revisions, but I cannot guarantee this.

Determine Distribution Point For PC Naming

I'm trying to automate the PC Naming process during Windows 7 Deployment with MDT 2010 and SCCM 2012.

I need to add a 3-character site code to the PC name, but I'm not sure how to get it.  Ideally, I would like to identify the distribution point used for OSD, and then based on that distribution point, create a custom MDT variable that is the site code, and later add that custom variable to a string that will be the name.

For example, if a computer was imaged using DP01.mycomapny.local as a distribution point, then MDT customsettings.ini would set the custom variableSiteCode  = HOU and later in the CustomSettings.ini I would haveOSDComputerName = %SiteCode%-%SerialNumber%

My problem is that I don't know how to determine the distribution point from inside customsettings.ini.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OSD images fail to replicate to DP

Hi..

Trying to replicate an OSD image to a DP and it's always failing with the message:

Detail will be available when server finishes processing the message

I've seen the other question posted about this problem, and how the issue was related to the DP does not have the Primary site in its Pull DP settings tab, but I've tried replicating it both with and without the primary site in the pull settings and it hasn't made a difference.

Other packages replicate no problem.  What am I looking for in which log file???

We're using SP1 with CU3.

Thank you...

Hi,

I have packages and have program in it to install software. I have created a .wsf script to install a software with switch. Ts downloads the package but fails to execute the program to install software using cscript.exe filename.wsf.

I am giving command line as cscript.exe filename.wsf while creating program in Package.

Just wondering if command line is fine with cscript?

Just to add, I am using the same procedure while deploying software in MDT 2013 and works fine. any suggestions?

OSD Fails when trying to communicate with the mgmt point

$

The below error messages are in the smsts.log file when attempting to deploy an OS. It fails from the beginning and looks like it can not communicate with the MP. We are not running DHCP in this environment so we are manually configuring the IP Address after it boots up from the boot.wim. Looking at the logs shows the IP as 169.254.x.x which means it can not get an IP from DHCP. I'm sure this is why it can not communicate with the MP however I'm not sure why it's not using the manually defined IP that we enter. Anyone seen this before?

Clone server - Best way?

$

Hi

Sorry for this maybe stupid question. But what is the best/easiest way to clone a server using SCCM 2012 R2...or MDT?

We have a physical server that is running out of disk space so all we want is to clone the server, change disks and then deploy the cloned image.

Is there no other way then using Task Sequences / Create Task Sequence Media?

It would be very nice not to have e.g. sysprep running, because there no need for ut.

Thanks!

Does including Office 2007 in your wim cause problems?

I remember hearing this quite a while back - that it was not recommended to use MDT, pause the task sequence, install office, then capture your image. This was supposed to break offline servicing and possibly other things if I remember correctly...

Is that even true? If it was ever a real issue, is it still a problem with the current MDT and Config Mgr?

Hardlink migration + drive partitioning

Hi

I have a task to refresh some XP machines to Windows 7. We have SCCM 2012 R2 CU1. I have the task sequence working as far as gathering all the settings and booting into WinPE however I need some clarification about the application of the Windows 7 part.

Do I need to do any partitioning of the drive in the machine (there is only one per device)? If so I think I need to use the BIOS rather than UEFI option. What is the recommended way of doing this if required?

How do I add BitLocker encryption to the drive?

OSD from different VLAN

We have a single SCCM server (one site, one MP, one DP).

We have two, separated VLANs (SCCM server has connection to both of VLANs - two NICs).

From one VLAN OSD is working perfectly.

From the second VLAN, OSD is not working, because of DNS failure.
Client from VLAN2 calls https://mp.domain.com:443 and it is resolved in IP of sccm server of VLAN1, but it should be resolved in IP of the sccm server of VLAN2.

How could we resolve this problem?

Thanks for help in advance!

Windows 8.1 left in OOBE mode after OSD

$

Hi,

Hopefully someone can assist. I have an OSD task sequence deploying Windows 8.1. The problem I have is that the OS is being left in OOBE mode after the task sequence has finished and therefore no Windows Updates are being allowed to be installed.

Windows Update log reports: OOBE is in progress, so cannot perform Accelerated Install

Image state in the registry states: image_state_undeployable

Any ideas why this would happen or how it can be corrected on an image?

In terms of the task sequence - the Setup Windows and Config Manager step is completing successfully with exit code 0, and the remainder of the task sequence seems to complete without error right up to the final step which is a reboot.

Any help much appreciated. I still have an unsysprep'd version of the image saved so can hopefully remedy before sysprepping this once more.

Thanks,

Jay

Windows 7 UEFI deployment

Hello,

Could somebody please help me on how to deploy Windows 7 x64 to an UEFI system using SCCM 2012 WDS.

I have captured an image from a VMWare VM using a Legacy BIOS. When I use Legacy BIOS on my system where I want to deploy the image to, it works great, but when I enable UEFI I get the message:

Windows Boot Manager, Windows failed to start, File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD

This is after the image has been applied in the task sequence and the system reboots (where it should continue the task sequence).

I do partition and format the disk as GPT, with an EFI and MSR partition.

What can I do to solve this issue? Thanks a lot!

Setting unique computer name remotely

Hello,

Currently I am deploying Windows 7 with MDT 2013 task sequence with zero touch that produces a generic computer name like minint-lhlbmj1L.  After the OSD has completed and the computer is joined to the domain, I simply rename the generic computer name to a official name.

In another MDT task sequence I have an UDI screen that prompts the user for computer name.  My boss wants Zero touch on the part of the user, but wants to manually supply the computer name without having to rename the computer name.

The only solution I have found is Right Click "Unknown Computers" and choose Properties. Open Collection Variables tab.Click on the yellow star to add a new variable.

Type OSDComputerName and specify the Official name for the computer.

I would think there is a powershell command to remotely do this, but was hoping there was a sccm 2012 r2 solution.

 Thanks,

Mark

Windows 2012 R2 deployement failes on physical machines

Hi,

I'm struggling to get W2K12R2 deployed via OSD on my physical DELL machines.

I've captured an image (via VM) with SCCM 2012 R2 CU1. When I deploy the image to a VM, it is working fine. When I'm deploying it to a physical machine, it fails. During tasksequence some roles are added via dism, but dism failed because the image is corrupted (not valid package). After applying the image and reboot, the image gets corrupted.

I have included all patches in the image (before capture) that were available including the rollup of november.

Could this be driver related?

Could it be related to the patches?

WiM

Software center "recently installed software requires a computer restart"

I've no idea why I'm getting this message in the notification area.

This message shows up a few mins after I have deployed an operating system task sequence to a laptop thin client (that uses File Based Write Filter).

This message doesn't appear to pop-up if I have the write filter disabled. but when it'senabled, the message comes up as described below.

If I open up Software Center, there is nothing showing anywhere, so I've no idea what is being deployed or causing this message to come up. I reboot and it goes into Service Mode, then eventually reboots and back into normal mode.

How exactly can I tell what's going on?

Could not create WMI locator class (80040154) - Win7 x64 OSD

Hello All,

I'm attempting to deploy a Win7 x64 OS to a Dell Optiplex 3010 through SCCM 2012 via PXE, a process I've done many times in the last few months. All of a sudden, on this one machine, I can't get it to work.

The first strange thing that happened is, after the initial check for a PXE server I am told to "Press F12 for network service boot". I've never seen that before on any other system. Secondly, after supplying the password to begin the OSD process I'm met with error message 80040154. An excerpt from my log file is below:

spLocator.createInstance( ((bUseAdminLocator == true) ? CLSID_WbemAdministrativeLocator : CLSID_WbemLocator ) ), HRESULT=80040154 (e:\nts_sccm_release\sms\framework\core\ccmcore\wminamespace.cpp,264)    TSPxe    1/8/2015 10:00:45 AM    268 (0x010C)

I see this error happening for people attempting a Win 8.1 OSD without the proper WMI file. But that's not what I'm trying to do. This exact process has worked on many other Optiplex 3010's and 3020's since May when I started using it. Any suggestions?

Hi all

I have created a task sequence to refresh client OS to windows 8.1 x64. I ran this task sequence in software center on a windows 7 client, everything went well without any fails. But when I ran the same ts again after it refreshed to Windows 8.1, it failed immediately after rebooted to WinPE. It shows a warning with error code 0x8022001B.

My test environment: SCCM 2012 R2 (Windows Server 2012 R2). Client Device: Lenovo L430

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
