Multicasting - CContentDefinition::GetFileProperties failed

$

0

Hi all,

I am having further issues with trying to multicast a WIM during OSD. I am running SCCM 2012 R2.

The error reported in mcsprv.log is this: CContentDefinition::GetFileProperties failed; 0x80070003

The local path which is specified is correct and exists: LocalPath: E:\SCCMContentLib\DataLib\SU200225.3

I have searched this error and read some people suggest it can happen when you place a no sms on drive file on the drive where the content library is held but this is not the case.

I have recently added an additional drive to the distribution point / content library so that now the distribution point is spread over two drives. Would this cause an issue?

Anyone have any suggestions how I can troubleshoot and resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Jay

ConfigMgr 2012 OSD: PXE Boot errors

$

Hi,

We have a SCCM 2012 SP1 setup and DP with PXE enabled. Incoming requests are approved automatically.

The error we see is as below

TFTP Download : smsboot\x64\pxeboot.com

PXE Boot aborted. Booting to next device

PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

Selected boot device failed. Press any key to reboot the system.

smspxe.log indicates incoming pxe requests and able to find the deployment created as well. Yet the selected boot device failed error appears.

Steps taken:

Cleared PXE deployments in collection

restarted WDS service

Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Prompts for Computer Name only for Unknown machines.

Hi All,

  I am Currently using an MDT boot image with prestart command to prompt for a computername. Only issues with this is it does it for all machines PXE booting for OSD. Is it possible to have the one TS and boot image to prompt for Unknown and Known machines that are PXE booting?

I was thinking of getting rid of the prestart command & using the collection variable on the Unknown collection only. If I do this will it give the known machines the same name as in the SCCM DB or give it a generic minint-xxxxx name.

any ideas or sugestions would be greatly appreciated

Error 0xc0000001 While Loading Boot Image.

Hi

I have bean sweating over this for a couple of hours now.

When PXE starts loading the boot image, that are assigned i get the 0xc0000001 error (Required device isn't connected or can't be accessed). SMSPXE.log shows that "boot image needs to be updated". All network drivers are in the boot image, so i cannot imagine, what could be missing here.

When PXE booting a VM, the boot image loads just fine. The issue is on multiple desktops (Dell).

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

No TS available for this computer.

Hi

I had an issue where after PXE booting and when the TS runs it would not run with "No TS available for this computer"

It was working until i changed the deployment to make available to only PXE and Boot media. Then it stopped working when PXE booting.

The record in the console displayed client no and there were no duplicate UUID's

So the seems the setting was not being honored... I changed the setting back to PXE, CM Clients and Media and it works again..

Can anyone explain why?

Thanks

Looking to Deploy an image to a drive and then CLONE the drive and finish configuration

$

Hi all,

We are new to SCCM, and have built out 2012R2 CU3. Our field services team currently uses a process where they use the existing LANDesk solution to deploy an image to a drive and then they duplicate that drive with a hardware drive copying machine. They want to do the same process moving forward and we are investigating solutions. We have tried using OEM imaging, and even created a task that executes a script to start the process but all the documentation we've found seems to be from 2007 which leads to issues especially with GPT and UEFI systems.

I've also gotten inventive and tried creating a job that runs ONLY the partition/image deployment followed up with a second job that is supposed to finish the deployment. This blows up with errors on the second part because I am not installing an image.

I'm sure someone here has run into this and has a good solution. We are open to pretty much anything that would allow us to clone the drives and then finish the client and package installation afterwards. It would be particularly sexy if someone has a solution that allows us to install drivers for whatever model is detected after the drive has been dup'ed and put into the target system model, then have it install apps and the SCCM client.

Thanks in advance!

Problem with driver insertion in WinPE for OSD

New workstations arrive to my company, Lenovo Thinkcentre M93.
I download SCCM package from Lenovo.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS038789

I unpack this drivers to shared folder, and import drivers to SCCM.

I also inject network drivers to boot image (X86 and x64), and nothing.

ipconfig /all gives nothing...

OSD Apply Win7 X64 SP1 Language Packs for Japanese, Chinese and Korean cause OSD Failure

Message returned is Windows cannot configure one or more system components, . To install Windows - restart the computer and restart the installation.   German and French Language packs do not cause this problem.  Language packs install fine post build.  This process we have been using has been working for three years but has now stopped for the three languages Japanese, Korean and Chinese.  Any advice on what may have caused this?  Thanks.

Applications not being deployed during task sequence - MDT 2013 + SCCM 2012 R2

$

Hi everyone,

I have recently integrated MDT2013 with my SCCM 2012 R2 and I am trying to move away from OSD in SCCM and switch to MDT. I managed to get a blank image deployed and now I am trying to tweak CustomSettings.ini to install applications based on the default gateway and model. For some reason, the apps are getting pulled but not deployed. Here is what I have in the files:

Settings Package - CustomSettings.ini

[Settings]
Priority=DefaultGateway, Model, Default
Properties=MyCustomProperty

[OptiPlex 9020]
Applications001=Mozilla Firefox

[DefaultGateway]
192.168.XXX.254=Poland
192.168.XXX.254=London

[Poland]
Applications001=ESET

[Default]
DoCapture=No
OSInstall=Y
SkipCapture=YES
SkipAdminPassword=NO
SkipProductKey=YES
Administrators001=myDomain\adminGroup

Applications001=Skype
Applications002=Office Professional Plus 2010

When the TS runs, I can see it's getting all the apps from the list, here is a snippet from ZTIGather.log

Using from [Settings]: Rule Priority = DEFAULTGATEWAY, MODEL, DEFAULT
------ Processing the [DEFAULTGATEWAY] section ------

So the settings do get picked up and selected. ZTICoalesce.log also shows the apps picked up:

Property CoalescedApps02 is now = Mozilla Firefox
Property CoalescedApps03 is now = Skype
Property CoalescedApps04 is now = Office Professional Plus 2010
ZTICoalesce processing completed successfully.

Now when I go to the smsts.log file, I can see this:

App policy for 'ESET' not received. Make sure the application is marked for dynamic app install
Policy download failed, hr=0x80004005

and later

Failed to run the action: Install Application.
Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows)

After that, no other apps are mentioned and seems like the failure on ESET drops the whole sequence and moves forward. I can see later the default admin being added correctly.

Any ideas what I may be missing here? Especially on the failed policy download?

Thanks

Jakub

WDS Service failed to run

Hi All,

In lab environment, I have DHCP, DNS, ADDS , SQL Server and SCCM 2012 on one box (physical machine not virtual).

Whenever I enable PXE, WDS service failed to start. What I have done so far to disabled the PXE >Reboot >Delete RemoteInstall >Delete Windows\temp directory >Reboot >Enabled PXE  >Reboot >Test >Failed

This failed or didn't helped either:

wdsutil /set-Server /UseDhcpPorts:No

Any thoughts?

DSDP 3.0 - CM 2012 R2 CU3 - Import Driver Packages Fail - Root element is missing

$

I realize that the Dell Server Deployment Pack 3.0 plug in is a vendor plugin to CM 2012 R2 but they (dell) are clueless.  So I am hoping that there is some knowledge here.

I've opened a case with Dell and have used the Dell forums to document my issue here: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4469/t/19613996

(there are some pics that might help.)

I have a ConfigMan 2012 R2 environment where I have integrated the Dell Server Deployment Pack 3.0.  The installation succeeded and I have been able to also run the Dell System Integration using the DTK 4.4.  I am doing all of this work directly on the CM 2012 primary site server.

However, when I try to Import Dell Drivers, I get an error in the wizard:

I have tried multiple OM DVD's each one produces the same results:

OM_SMTD_801_A00.iso

OM_SMTD_802_A00.iso

OM_SMTD_740_A00.iso

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Applying image slow on VM

$

Hi,

Recently, we have installed 2 distribution points in our lab environment on 2 separate machines to lower the load on our primary site server. Both distribution points have the same boundaries associated.

I don't know if it is related to those 2 DPs, but applying the OS image is taking very long (+30min). If I copy the wimfile manually from the same location, it's done within a minute. Maybe we saw it after installing the 2 dps because of excessive testing.

We are running SCCM 2012 R2 CU1, so kb2905002 should be installed (included in CU1).

We only see this slow download on Virtual machines, (1CPU/4GB). On physical machines, applying the same image only takes a few minutes. I also observed that in rare cases, it goes fast on a VM also...

Any ideas?

Determine Distribution Point For PC Naming

$

I'm trying to automate the PC Naming process during Windows 7 Deployment with MDT 2010 and SCCM 2012.

I need to add a 3-character site code to the PC name, but I'm not sure how to get it.  Ideally, I would like to identify the distribution point used for OSD, and then based on that distribution point, create a custom MDT variable that is the site code, and later add that custom variable to a string that will be the name.

For example, if a computer was imaged using DP01.mycomapny.local as a distribution point, then MDT customsettings.ini would set the custom variableSiteCode  = HOU and later in the CustomSettings.ini I would haveOSDComputerName = %SiteCode%-%SerialNumber%

My problem is that I don't know how to determine the distribution point from inside customsettings.ini.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PXE Boot works but reboot on Preparing network connections

I have a new machine to my environment that I can't get to pxe boot. The machine boots up but as soon as it reaches preparing network connections in the WinPE it reboots.  I enabled command support and when I run an ipconfig I get nothing like it has no NIC.  I have loaded multiple network drivers for the machine and nothing seems to help.

Quick recovery image for internet based clients

Hello all,

Imaging of internet based clients is not supported with SCCM, but is there any other (Microsoft) way to quickly recover to a standard image for internet based clients (we use MS Surface for our sales reps)? For example, putting an standard image on a seperate partition with which you can instruct users by phone to redeploy their machine to an original configuration? I do not think that DaRT will solve my issue by the way.

OSD HTA and Task Sequence Variable

Have a unusual issue that I cannot seem to find a answer anywhere or if it's even possible. I'm am very aware on how to setup a HTA to pass variables to the Task Sequence but there is a point where I want the HTA to display the current value of a TS Variable(s). It's a custom variable that is set on a prior step via a VB script. Anyone know of a simple way to call and display the value in HTML/HTA.

SCCM 2012 R2 Configuration Manager is looking for policy - AbortPXE.com message

$

I have several laptops, that will not PXE boot, and get this message every time:

Pending ID Request (x)

Message from Administrator:
Configuration Manager is looking for policy.

Contacting Server:(Local DP DHCP server)

TFTP Download: smsboot\x64\abortpxe.com

These laptops are being reimaged, and have been "known" to the SCCM database already. I am aware of the techniques to find the NETBIOS name, MAC address, or GUID in the SCCM database, and either clear the PXE advertisement flag, or delete the object from the database to make it "unknown". This works fine for me for many PC's I have had to reimage.

Unfortunately, I have 2-3 laptops on hand that still get this error message even after verifying that the NETBIOS name, MAC Address, and GUID are not present in the SCCM console (At least the SCCM console comes back with "0 entries found" when I query for any of these parameters on these laptops)

Looking at the SMSPXE.log file on the local DP doesn't help, as no information is recorded here during these failed attempts.

I am unable to image them using PXE boot at this point, and wanted to know if I am missing anything else in troubleshooting this issue? Is there something still residing in the SCCM database that I am missing and should be searching for?

Any help regarding this is most appreciated.

Thanks, Rich

After upgrading from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 we can no longer preform a Build and Capture.

Post upgrading from 2012 SP1 to R2, I can no longer select a "Operating System Package" (base wim right from disk) when choosing the Build and Capture template in "Create Task Sequence", the wizard only shows me the "Operating System Images" (what you get after doing a build and capture).  Even If I go to make a custom task sequence no matter what added step I try I do not get a list of "Operating System Package".  My old Build and Captures (pre 2012 r2 upgrade) that had a step that listed a "Operating System Package" still show the "packages" if I go use Browse..., however if you try to preform a build and capture the task sequence on the VM will fail during the applying OS during the Build and Capture process.  Has anyone else seen this and / or fixed this?

SCCM Multicast =4% vs WDS Multicast =33%

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know why i might be experiancing the following

I have 10 clients all DH61BE Core i5 identical, If i mulicast them from WDS i get 27% nic usage on the clients and if i multicast them from SCCM i get 4% nic usage, All default settings and servers exactly the same spec hardware and software running 2008r2,

However i have the following table

Clients 2 5 10 40
WDS 33% 33% 27% 24%
SCCM 25% 10% 4% 2%

Im also getting hash errors from SCCM on my larger images, Just found the correct forums below is my older post.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/d8931bc4-079d-40da-af1a-d5cca0e31b30/#b4eec319-1915-4660-a421-781e3f1287c6

What is going on I wouldnt belive Microsoft would release a product that gives me errors when deploying images on such a scale, However i have had IBM and Cisco come in and they have tested everything and as the above table shows its a SCCM specific issue.

I use Mcast as I work a a University and our labs are 100+ machines in each room
