Certain Devices failing during OS .wim deployment after upgrading to 2012 R2

We just upgraded to 2012 R2 and for some reason, now some of our newer machines goto BSD loop after the the apply drivers step.  I have re-imported all of the drivers for these machines into the driver database and driver packages and updated dist points but still having the same problem.   Will not boot into OS in safe mode either.  I had to remove the HDD to retrieve the smsts logs which say the following: (thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated)

Multicasting - CContentDefinition::GetFileProperties failed

$

Hi all,

I am having further issues with trying to multicast a WIM during OSD. I am running SCCM 2012 R2.

The error reported in mcsprv.log is this: CContentDefinition::GetFileProperties failed; 0x80070003

The local path which is specified is correct and exists: LocalPath: E:\SCCMContentLib\DataLib\SU200225.3

I have searched this error and read some people suggest it can happen when you place a no sms on drive file on the drive where the content library is held but this is not the case.

I have recently added an additional drive to the distribution point / content library so that now the distribution point is spread over two drives. Would this cause an issue?

Anyone have any suggestions how I can troubleshoot and resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Jay

OSD with Configuration Manager Clients and PKI certifications

My team and I had just set up PKI Certs on our System Center 2012 R2 Server. We want the opportunity to utilize Out Of Band Management, but we also would like to make our OSD available to the following "Only Configuration Manager Clients." I have done some testing and have found that without PKI enabled we have been able to use this feature. Once we enabled PKI we could only perform OSD through PXE or Boot Media.

Is there a way to have PKI enabled but also allow OSD's to be available through "Only Configuration Manager Clients"?

create computer in active directory and then installing OS via SCCM 2012

Hello Guys,

I need process to install windows 7 client via SCCM and join to domain with following scenario:

Comp1: MAC: 11-22-33-44-55-66

1. Create computer in AD [sys admin]

2. Set PXE boot filer to allow only boot for 11-22-33-44-55-66 [sys admin]

3. [Support] connect computer to the network and receive installation image and computer name based on MAC address, predefined beforehand

I'm able to manually set computer name during installation, but is it possible to set it via SCCM console or script and restrict PXE boot by MAC?

Thanks

The selected driver is not applicable to any supported platforms. 2012 R2 U1 for Windows 8.1 x64

When trying to import the drivers from the Windows 8.1 x64 Dell E6330 SCCM CAB to our SCCM 2012 R2 U1 server, we receive the error "The selected driver is not applicable to any supported platforms" on a number of drivers.

Specifying the same source directory to the test Windows 8.1 Ent x64 computer via the install driver wizard in Device manager finds and installs the missing drivers successfully (Bluetooth 4.0 Module and STMicroelectronics 3-axis Digital Accelerometer).

The manufacturer section of those drivers looks like this:

bcbturms-win8x64-brcm.inf

[Manufacturer]
%MfgName%=Broadcom, NTamd64.6.3, NTamd64

st_accel.inf

[Manufacturer]
%STM%=ST,NTAMD64

Any idea how I can successfully import these drivers?

MDT 2013's version of Bitlocker

I'm new to MDT, but am successfully deploying OSD's to my devices with 2012 R2 CU1.  However I am having issues with MDT's variant of "Enable Bitlocker" as it never actually encrypts the drive:

cscript.exe "%deployroot%\scripts\ZTIBde.wsf" /UDI

Why not just use SCCM's built in Enable Bitlocker step where the admin chooses the OS drive and encryption storage method?

Creating developer images

Hello - Our develop environment has grown to include a lot of applications when installed manually or silently can take a few hours.   I was looking at creating a thick image containing as many of the developer applications but can see a potential issues when installing SQL.  During the SQL install there are local groups created that contain the computer name which is one problem.  Has anybody built a thick Windows 7 developer image with multiple version of SQL and Visual Studio installed and if so have you come across and issues?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

SCCM 2012 R2 extract failing

$

Greetings all.  We're trying to extract a reference machine for OS deployment in SCCM 2012 R2. System is a Dell 3010 with Windows 7 32 bit. We removed the CCM client just in case there was a conflict.

We modified the x86 boot image to enable command support. However, pressing F8 and launching the ISO and catching it at reboot does nothing. The menu comes up, but selecting "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" doesn't get me a command prompt?

Anyway, the snippet below is typical of what we see. The log indicates the machine successfully connected to the share and starts to capture an image and then very quickly bombs with the ...70002 error.

Is it trying to extract something from the Windows install and failing? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

While troubleshooting one issue I've now run into another. When I try to run my OSD Task Sequence it errors at the same place, "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr". I looked at the package it's using and found that the was last updated at 5am this morning. I also ran updates on the Site Server and rebooted earlier today.

Win7 deployment on c: drive problem by using sccm 2012 sp1 integrated with mdt 2012

Hello All;
First of all I would like to tell that probably I've read all blogs and articles about Windows 7 - 2008R2 c:/D: drive installation problem and "OSDPreserveDriveLetter" variable. As  I couldn't have found the solution, I needed to consult you.
I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 which fully patched and the latest release MDT 2012 integrated. My purpose is to deploy Windows 7 - 2008R2 on C: drive by using MDT Client Task Sequence.

I have tried following ways by using MDT Client Task Sequence:

1) Used original win7 install.wim / Set OSDPreserveDriveLetter=False >>> Win7 was installed on D:
2) Used original win7 install.wim / Set OSDPreserveDriveLetter=True >>> Win7 was installed on D:
3) Used original win7 install.wim / Set set "OSDPreserveDriveLetter" step >>> Win7 was installed on D:

I have tried all above also for Windows Server 2008 R2.

I'm pulling my hairs guys... Please advise what I'm missing...
P.S: I did #1 by using normal SCCM Client Tas Sequence (Not MDT Task Sequence) and Win7 and Win2008R2 was installed on C: drive.

BDEDrive gets drive-letter after R2 upgrade

I´m having serious problem after R2 upgrade and I´m in a hurry to fix this, because OSD in production broke.

So, before R2 upgrade, OSD with W7 x64 was working fine. Image had to index and it was captured with MDT based task, with 2 partitions (which is wrong, I know).

After I performed R2 upgrade, we noticed that Windows started go to D: drive. PreserveDrive letter variable has no effect, since image was captured previously in the wrong way. After I forced the image to go to C: By modifying Apply Image step (I changed OSDisk to Logical C:), I got W7 go to C: but now I can see BDEDrive letter in Windows Explorer. Enabling or disabling"do not assign drive letter to this partition" at BDEDrive partition has also no effect.

In WinPE and OSPhase, I can see drive letters with diskpart and BDEDrive has always come up with letter.

Capturing new image will take longer time to test everything else, so that´s why I´m trying to make this work with old image. CM 2012 R2 non-CU is with MDT 2013 and we´re using UDI based MDT tasks.

Any help or sightview is good, share you thoughts please :)

SCCM 2012 R2 - OSD issues after update to CU4

Over the weekend, I updated my SCCM environment from RTM to CU4.
All seems to have gone well, except for OSD

When attempting OSD, I receive the following error:

"An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer (0x80004005)..."

So, a quick look over at smsts.log and I see the following:

SCCM OSD error

I did some bing'in and googling around for this and found plenty of pages about this error and all pointed to incorrect BIOS times.  I checked the BIOS time on the system I was trying to image, and it was correct (including date).  Just in case, I tried two more machines and I had the same issue.  Each machine has the correct BIOS date/time as well, so the issue I have doesn't seem related.

... and that brings me here.  Does anyone have any insight as to what might be causing the issue?

Thanks!
