Image capture in SCCM 2012 SP1

Hi,

I am in the process of capturing the image in SCCM 2012 SP1. I have deployed boot images to DP and created Task Sequence thru Create Task Sequence option in SCCM 2012 SP1. I have feq queries here...

1. Is it ok if the reference machine is part of domain?

2. Does SCCM Client required to be installed on reference machine?

3. I am accessing the SCCM server and other client machines thru RDP. When you deploy the Task Sequence (for capture Image) to reference machine (RM), Is it required to reboot the RM with F1? If yes, how can I do thru RDP?

Thank you.

SCCM 2012 SP1, deploy install.wim Windows 7 64 bit fails

Hi,

We would like to deploy the install.wim of the Windows 7 DVD to a vmware machine just as a test.
Reason = not use the "Build and capture" media but use the clean wim and go from there.

First of all, the deployment of a captured Windows 2012 works fine.

What we did:

1. added the vmware iscsi controller to the x64 boot image

2.copied the existing (working) task sequence of Windows 2012, renamed it and changed the "Apply Operating System" and "Apply Data Image1" (not sure what that data image is)

3.created a bootable media task sequence (since this is only a test for deploying os-es from new sccm 2012, we currently have sccm 2007).

Error we have is the same screenshot as in this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4eafbcd4-810a-4b6b-bdc3-102603536927/pxe-boot-sccm-2012-sp1-your-pc-ran-into-a-problem-and-needs-to-restart

Problem is, pc reboots and starts again, no logfile whatsoever available.

Please advise.

Set Windows 7 UI Language during SCCM 2012 Task Sequence

$

Hi all,
i just try to deploy Windows 7 x64 and MUI Support. Based on the Collection Membership a specific Langauge Pack is installed additonal to the Core English.
I've Collections named e.g. Germany, France, etc. where i defined the following variables:

OSDInputLocale = de-DE
OSDSystemLocale = de-de
OSDUILanguage = de-DE
OSDUILanguageFallback = de-DE
OSDUserLocale = de-DE

Also i've created a unattend.xml where i defined the values as following in the oobeSystem Phase:

<InputLocale>%OSDInputLocale%</InputLocale>
<SystemLocale>%OSDSystemLocale%</SystemLocale>
<UILanguage>%OSDUILanguage%</UILanguage>
<UILanguageFallback>%OSDUILanguageFallback%</UILanguageFallback>
<UserLocale>%OSDUserLocale%</UserLocale>

All the variables are working except of the OSDUILanguage.

I see the following in the setupact.log file:
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] Found unattend setting "UILanguage" with value: "de-DE".
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] Found unattend setting "UILanguageFallback" with value: "de-DE".
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] Found unattend setting "Systemlocale" with value: "de-DE".
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] Found unattend setting "UserLocale" with value: "de-DE".
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] Found unattend setting "InputLocale" with value: "de-DE".
[MUIUNATTEND.EXE] UILanguage is not installed in the system: de-DE. error: 2

Means: The variables are resolved and available in the Task Sequence with the correct values,
BUT it cannot configure the UILanguage setting.

What i assume is the following:
The unattend.xml is applied at the Task Sequence step "Apply Operating System" but the German Language Pack is installed at a later step (see pic)

I think this could be the problem, but i read that it worked for other users, so what i'm doing wrong?

http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/nbrady/archive/2011/02/15/customising-windows-7-deployments-part-4-deploying-language-packs-offline.aspx

Thanks a lot.

Jonas

SCCM 2012: setup seperate MDT to troubleshoot task-sequences?

$

Hi,

We are setting up an SCCM 2012 OS deployment. MDT is integrated already.
I read somewhere it would be a good idea to set up a seperate MDT (different server) in order to test task sequences/OS deployments.

Reason for that: MDT in SCCM 2012 is zero touch, MDT seperately is light touch. If you deploy to a vmware workstation with MDT you can snapshot each step and test/troubleshoot the task sequence. Idea looks ok, but does it makes sence?

Please advise.

OSD Application Install; OU Requirement

$

I'm seeing some issues when using an OU (and child OUs) as a requirement for application deployment during OSD.

The target machine logs the application as "not required" during the Task Sequence, I'm guessing because SCCM hasn't got the OU information for the machine, yet. Is there any way I can trigger population of this data in ConfigMgr during OSD to facilitate this requirement specification.

I have a 'workaround' where I read the OU from ADDS however this won't work for IBCM clients - so I end up either having a working TS and breaking IBCM deployment of the applications, or vice versa.

Thanks,

Chris

SCCM 2012 SP1 - OSD Task Sequence Does Not Complete After SP1, No Errors

OSD was working fine in SCCM 2012 until we upgraded to SP1. Now the task sequence does not run extra commands after "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager." There are no errors, no indication that the commands have not run, the task sequence ends after it installs Configuration Manager. The image is working fine, once the task ends, it just never gets the additional commands, which include a package install and command line. The logs do not show any errors. New boot images and task sequences were created after the SP1 update.

WIM file has been downloaded successfully but extracting process failed.

Hello everybody, we have a WIM file 6.6 Gb, we try to deploy it to 6 laptops by multicast just for test, we will need to do it for 90 laptops at one time. WIM file has been downloaded successfully but extracting process failed. One year ago we did it with 3-5% failed, but old image was 4.4 Gb. Now 3-4 laptops from 6 are failed. We have tried different network configuration, we set all ports to 100 Mb, downloading works just fine.

Multiple Languages prompts to pick default language in OSD

$

0

I have set up an OSD to run an offline install of one language pack. This is a mandatory install on all computers.

I have created an unattend.xml file to add in UILanguage equal to en-GB, added this as a package, assigned it in the Apply Operating System task and specified the unattend.xml to be used.

The amd64_Microsoft-Windows-International- Core has been added to the OOBE phase of deployment. I've also tried adding it to the specalize phase.

No matter what I do I still get prompted to choose the default language when building.

Everywhere I have looked points to adding UILanguage to the OOBE phase. Where is this going wrong or what can I do to check?

Cheers

Joining the Domain - Previous Computer Objects

$

I am looking for some "Best Practice" advice for OSD imaging in relation to imaging a previously used computer (often called Reimaging).

Scenario:  A computer is reimaged by an OSD Task Sequence, and keeps the same name as part of the process.  Depending on the situation, there is a chance the computer must be moved to a new OU as well - as there are several OU's based on business process/function/location.

I have considered:

  • Deleting the computer as part of the process manually with a script in the Task Sequence.   **I have done this with limited success in the past by script/webservice/etc - but it is increasingly hard with replication timing with lots of DC's.
  • Just let SCCM join over the old object in the task sequence.  **SCCM does not seem to want to join the domain to a specific OU if the previous object exists in a "different OU"

So what is the best practice to join computers to the domain over old objects.  Keys are I am in a location with several domain controllers that may have replication times to worry about.

I know other folks must be doing stuff - just want to know what the recommendation is.  Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

OS deployment: use no "capture media" but deploy default wim?

Hi,

In order to not "pollute" the default installation media, couldn't you use the default wim instead of capture media then deploying this captured media?

Btw, what is the advantage of using this captured media?

Offline USMT not working correctly in SCCM 2012 MDT-integrated Task Sequence

$

Hi all. I am trying to get Offline USMT Capture and Restore working but failing to do so.

A little background info:

I am using a SCCM 2012 SP1 environment with MDT 2012 integrated.

I have a Windows 7 Deployment Task Sequence that I intend to use to refresh old Win 7 builds or upgrade Win XP builds.

My testing of the Online USMT (with hardlinks) has been 100% successful - i.e. I start the Win 7 Deployment TS from the desktop. The computer Captures the user state to c:\StateStore, reboots the machine, copies the new image, configures the OS and restore the user state.

My testing of the Offline USMT (with hardlinks) has been a 100% failure.

I disabled the section "Online USMT", however now the TS completes the re-image of the PC but there has been no OFfline USMT capture (and therefore no restore). There is no scanstate.log or loadstate.log created.

This leads me to believe that State Capture is not even starting - however I cannot find evidence or this in the smsts.log file.

I think my biggest problem is the lack of understanding on where/when/how certain parts of the Task Sequence are executed/skipped based upon the various OS Task Sequence Variables.

All the instuctions I have seen on Offline USMT in SCCM 2012 use the standard SCCM 2012 Task Sequences - none seem to refer to MDT 2012 integrated Task Sequences.

Has anyone got this working successfully in SCCM 2012 with MDT 2012 TS's?

Resources I have read (all which are using SCCM 2012 Task Sequences)

http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1735-using-offline-mode-in-windows-pe-using-usmt-4-via-a-task-sequence-in-sccm-2007-sp2/

TS stops after client initialization

Hi all,

got a weird problem with my environment (it's already R2, but I thought I'd give it a shot, might not be R2 related?!).

During an OSD task sequence and after initializing the agent my TS just stops with error "Failed to load property 'AutoApplyDeployment'. Error 0x80041002"

Don't know where that comes from.

I attached the smsts.log file for better troubleshooting, I hope that helps.

Thanks for any hints.

Just want to clarify something. Are deployment type "Requirements" evaluated by the "Install Application" task during an OSD process?

Thanks!

Hi

I get OSD 800700A1 error with refresh senarie after activate Enable BitLocker step in TS.

SCCM 2012 SP1 CU1, Windows 8 Enterprise x86

- I install an OSD-TS with an enable bitlocker step.

- I reinstall the the same box with bitlocker activated, and get error 800700A1.

- I wipe the disk with disk part, create an new primary partition.

- Now I can run OSD with no error. I thought the OSD by design dissabel and enable the Bitlocker?

SCCM 2012 SP1 - OS Deployment - hash could not be matched for the downloded content

I've got a newly deployed SCCM 2012 SP1 running on Windows Server 2012. The W2K12 runs as vm on ESX 5.1. I'm having very odd issues with OS deployment. The TS keeps failing when processing SCCM client installation - it downloads the package but then it fails straight away with the 80091007 - hash values couldn't be matched error - some extract from smsts.log attached below. It's very consistent, it happens every time - it downloads and applies the image fine straight after that it bombs out.
What is very interesting is that it works perfectly fine when I deploy vms (on the same or different host) - the issue seems to be be only affecting physical machines (laptops desktops). This might suggest some network issues (vSwitch with Cisco switches) but the config on the switch is very simple and this shouldn't be the case.
I had a few virtualised SCCM 2007 installations (ESX 5 and 4) and it always worked with no problems.

I tried to recreate the package (changing source directory), turn binary differential replication on and off, copy the content of the package to the dist point or not copy. Push client installation (or other package deployments) work fine
When I tried to deploy with no download - sometimes it works but most of the time I'd get the files/folder corrupt error (can't remember the No)

This is starting to drive me crazy - There are some significant changes in the way SCCM 2012 is validating package integrity (like Content Lib folder) but the consistency of this problem is just very odd.

Anyone has any clues?

thanks

Hi,

I am having some problems with our OSD from SCCM 2012 SP 1 running on Windows Server 2012. The task sequence runs all the way to the installing the agent and throws this error in the smsts.log

That ATM0000B package is the configuration manager client installer. Now if I refresh the package on the DP, OSD will work once and then the next deployment throws this error all over again. Any ideas will help.

I have redistributed the Driver packages to the DP's but still no luck - does anyone have any idea's?

Thanks
