OSDRegisteredOrgName issue with new (Wizard created) Task Sequence when trying to Edit

$

After running around, chasing shadows and being outrun by that wild goose.....  i have fallen to my knees and am asking for your help!

We have an issue when using the Create Task Sequence wizard in SCCM 2012 R2.  No matter what options are chosen during the wizard, the result is the same.  The Task Sequence gets created perfectly, no issues, but we are unable to edit it.

The following error message is displayed:

Both the OSDRegisteredOrgName and the OSDRegisteredUserName values are empty (aside from apparently being filled with a few tab spaces.

My guess is, the step is being added by the wizard without these fields being filled in, thus stopping me from opening the Task Sequence to enter them.....catch 22 i suspect.

Editing the XML and re-importing may work, but don't really want to do this workaround as it shouldn't be needed.

This doesn't affect manually creating a Task Sequence, as you cannot save it without manually entering these fields with a valid entry.

My questions are:

  • Where does the OSDRegisteredUserName and OSDRegisteredOrgName get their values from when the Wizard is used?
  • Is there any quick fix for this? or even a long fix? as long as it is a fix and not a workaround.
  • Is MDT a cause?
  • Where can I get the last four hours of my life back?

Many thanks,

Dean

OSD - Detect 1 or 2 Hard Drives

$

Hi All

I use one master task sequence to deploy all our various operating system builds and rely heavily on task sequence variables to ensure the correct build goes on the correct model.

In the past i have used such a variable to set if a device has one or two hard drives. However its getting to the stage where there is no pattern to which devices have one drive and which have two.

I was wondering if anyone has or knows of a script or query that i can use one a machine has booted to winPE that can detect the ammount of drives in a system, i could then use that information to either partition one drive up or give two drives one partition.

Thanks in advance!

Cannot import Dell CAB drivers into SCCM 2012

I am attempting to import Dell E6510 CAB drivers into SCCM 2012 but everyone of them fails except for the ST Micro driver.  Upon completing the import wizard the failure gives the following error:

The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver.

In the DriverCatalog.log on the SCCM server I see the following:

This driver does not have a valid version signature.
Failed to initialize driver digest. Code 0xe0000102

Is there a setting in SCCM to accept unsigned drivers during the import process or something that I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

new laptops will not finish PXE

2012R2

I'm trying to find a new laptop standard for our company, I generally stick with name brands.

I bought a new Lenovo T450 (T440 deploys perfectly), packaged and deployed the drivers from Lenovo, no matter what I did I could not get it to load the OSD. It goes into PXE, brings up the SCCM background BMP but that's it, after a minute it reboots itself to load the OEM image.

So, I gave up on that and bought a new Dell E7450, packaged and deployed the drivers from Dell, same thing!

What could I be doing wrong??? Very frustrating.

PS We are currently successfully deploying several other models every day.

Will not using PXE cause a duplicate record?

I read that if I don't use PXE to deploy an OS, but rather manually create the system in Devices by using its MAC address and System GUID and after deploying the OS, a duplicate record will exist in SCCM.

Is this true?

Is this why it is better to use PXE so the system will automatically get tossed into the built in "Unknown Computers" collection and thus avoiding any duplicate record in the SCCM database?

Thanks

Not sure what causing this. please help.

C:\SMSTSLog directory left behind after image build and capture completes

I have what seems like a stupid question.  After running a build and capture task sequence, the C:\SMSTSLog directory and C:\smsbootsect.bak are left behind on the image captured?  I don't ever remember seeing these on the previous (and first) image I built.  Do the existence of these on the root C: drive signify that an error has occurred?  Thanks...

How to set the timezone based upon the client's location

$

Hi,

We have offices in several regions and I'd like for our client computers to have the correct timezone when the OSD process has completed. They way it is working now involves a tech setting the timezone manually after the deployment is done. I have been using SMSDP as a reference for the client computer to determine the location where it's being imaged. I have tried using a Task Sequence Variable named TimeZone set to the value of the country - no help. I also tried using a Task Sequence Variable name OSDTimeZone but this resulted in halting the imaging process and displaying a dialog box for setting the timezone manually. Pausing the OSD process is definitely not how I would like to do this.

What is the best approach to getting the timezone set properly so it's one less thing to do post deployment?

Thanks,

Rob

OSD and drivers

Hello,

All at once my Standalone Media isn't installing my network driver.  When I check task sequence log it states not able to install network card.  I recreated boot.wim file and re-added to network drivers to it.  When I boot from the USB stick and am able to hit f8, typing ipconfig, I get an ip address. But after the image is applied and a reboot, I no logger have an IP address. Do I need to add the nic drivers to Operating system image or operating systems installers image?  I wonder what changed?

PXE error 0xc0000098

Hi,

I have a weird issue and I need some help here.

My PXE was working just fine up until last week, but since then I tried to deploy OS to some workstations and I get the same error: 0xc0000098 "The Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file from the PXE server does not contain a valid operating system entry. Ensure that the server has boot images installed for this architecture."

I also noticed that the tftp downloaded image is coming from \Boot\ and not \SMSBOOT\

I tried adding options 66 and 67 to DHCP, but this didn't fix the issue (It was working fine before without adding these options to DHCP).

I tried unchecking the PXE option, reboot and then check it back.

I tried removing completely WDS from the server and re-installing it after removing the folder RemoteInstall.

The issue still occurs.

By the way I use SCCM 2012 R2.

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

SCCM 2012 SP1 Hash errors with drivers

$

Hey all I have been having hash issues with drivers. I have removed the drivers from SCCM then re-distributed them and still get hash errors.

In this recent round I decided to removed the delete the drivers from their driver packages then delete the packages themselves and then will add them back in and then distributes them. This operation is still in progress so I'll post a status update when the process is done.

My SCCM server is server 2008 R2 with most if not all updates applied to the OS and also to SCCM itself; well that I can think of at the moment.

Just for the heck of it I went and installed MDT 2013 as a standalone system and imported the drivers for the various computers that I am currently trying to use and BAM stuff just works! No hash errors, no driver issues (I was getting OS error 31 during installation and it was driver issues because they wouldn't install and blow up the whole process using SCCM to deploy a fresh OS from installers for Windows 7 64-bit) and of course no automation. Sigh! So to get this working, I created an application in MDT to install the SCCM client, bam, some automation after the fact.

Image Capture in MDT versus SCCM 2012R2.

$

Hi,

I have read some articles where it is stated that captures via MDT can be used in more situations than captures done within SCCM. Amongst them, VDI.

I am wondering what the technical difference is between doing a capture with MDT versus SCCM?

Isn´t ImageX or DISM used in both cases?

Thx

Create a collection for build and capture TS only

$

Hi,

I'm pretty familiar with SCCM 2012 OSD but I think I still miss some basic thing to solve this

I have a reference virtual machine (VMWare) for Build and capture purposes.

what I want is this machine only to have the deployment for Build and Capture task sequence I configured

so I tried to create a new collection and add a query membership of the VMWare's MAC address - unfortunately I get "No task sequences are assigned"

I tried to use Add Computer and added a new resource with the computer's MAC address to this collection - still! can't get the task sequence

so the only thing that worked so far was to deploy this TS for all unknown computers, which works immediately and then disable the TS.

any ideas what's the best way to make this happen as expected?  thanks!
