Win 7 OSD Task Sequence Failing : Failed to run the action: Apply Operating System. The has value is not correct (Error: 80091007;Source: Windows)

I am running to OSD issues, and need some input.

Long story short, when I run a standard EXTREMELY Vanilla/plain Win7 sp1 x86 task sequence on a smartswitch, it's failing with the following smstslogs:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=30D82229368FC5D5!188&authkey=!AOdPFXa-sXAifKI

As you can tell, these are the errors that pop up repeatedly:

(there are quite a few hundred of these that show up for some reason)
Failed to open Software\Microsoft\Sms\Mobile Client\Software Distribution registry key. The client should not get checked for RWH OpLock Type ApplyOperatingSystem 7/22/2013 10:27:46 AM 1852 (0x073C)

then this:

The user tries to release a source directory C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\MPS00063 that is either already released or we have not connected to it ApplyOperatingSystem 7/22/2013 10:28:56 AM 1852 (0x073C)

then:

Failed to run the action: Apply Operating System.
The hash value is not correct. (Error: 80091007; Source: Windows) TSManager 7/22/2013 10:28:56 AM 1456 (0x05B0)

and lastly:
The execution of the group (Install Operating System) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed.
Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source: Windows) TSManager 7/22/2013 10:28:56 AM 1456 (0x05B0)
Failed to run the last action: Apply Operating System. Execution of task sequence failed.
The hash value is not correct. (Error: 80091007; Source: Windows) TSManager 7/22/2013 10:28:56 AM 1456 (0x05B0)

To make matters more frustrating / confusing, if I run this task sequence on a standard / dumb switch, it works perfectly.  If I run it on our D-Link web smart switches (DGS-1210-24) it fails, and any system fails with the same errors as in the posted smsts.log files above.

IF anyone can graciously give me any input on this, i'd really appreciated it.

Thank you!

SCCM Task Sequence failing, but only on certain network switches. Error log attached

I'm stumped...again.

I have an OSD task sequence, and it works PERFECTLY...when I have it going through my test environment/cheap dumb 10/100 switch.  I was thinking at first that maybe it was that in WinPE it loses network drivers at some point during the Task sequence, but I F8 console and can save the smsts.log file to the \\server\f$ share of our sccm server just fine, and ipconfig on command prompt gives me a valid ip address shown.

Maybe this makes more sense to those of you on the forums,

any thoughts?

Here's the parts of the smsts.log file that showed errors:

SCCM OS deployment, Windows 7, howto customize the OS?

$

Hi,

Please advise howto customize a build and caputre task sequence (Windows 7), f.e.

-small icons instead of large ones
-enable telnet
-...

If possible, it probably takes a lot of work to configure.
Why not use the audit mode of Windows, then capture this image with imageX?

Note: another thing: when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 (our case), how can you make sure pc's keep their name? You import the pc's based upon mac-address but then ...?

SCCM 2012 TS Package Stuck

I'm confused on this one.  I have several packages set to install after the Setup Windows and Configuration Manager step.  The part this is hung is the Setup Windows and Configuration Manager bit.  The dialog box says Downloading installation files, but never makes any progress.  I've verified that I can ping the management server as well as the distribution point.  The log doesn't have any errors.  It just appears that it is waiting for the download to finish.  Does anyone have a clue what I should be looking for?  I can include the smsts.log if you need it.  Thanks again.

Best, Jacob I'm a PC.

Task sequence fails at “Apply Operating System” with “Failed to make volume C:\ bootable” for new virtual machines

Hello,

we got a issue if we try to deploy Windows 7 to a brandnew Hyper-V virtual machine for the first time. The virtual machine has three disks that were never partitioned yet. It was just created with its disks. So the disks are raw.

So if we try to apply the WIM to disk 0 after formating and partitioning step, OSD failed with

  • System partition not set"
  • "Failed to make volume C:\ bootable"
  • Volume C:\ is not on the boot disk and can not be made bootable

This happens only for the first time. After we retry the Deployment for the same machines, it works. It even works for older virtual machines which disks arent raw.

So what's the problem with never partitioned and formated disks, if you try to to deploy an image for the first time?

Problems joining a Windows 7 Machine to a Windows 2003 Domain Controller.

I've got an interesting problem that I'm hoping someone has seen before...

Mixed Domain Controller Environment: W2K3 & W2K8R2

Domain Functional Level: Windows Server 2003

Forest Functional Level: Windows Server 2003

I have a MDT Task Sequence in my SCCM 2012 Environment. When the deployed computer attempts to join the domain if it connects to a W2K8R2 DC it will join no problem, if it connects to a W2K3 DC I get the following error:

07/25/2013 07:14:26:818 NetpMapGetLdapExtendedError: Parsed [0x5] from server extended error string: 00000005: SecErr: DSID-03151E04, problem 4003 (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0

I have created a Windows 7 OU and assigned the following permissions to the Service Accounts so I'm pretty sure it isn't a permissions issue:

Scope: This object and all descendant objects

  • Create Computer objects
  • Delete Computer objects

Scope: Descendant Computer objects

  • Read All Properties
  • Write All Properties
  • Read Permissions
  • Modify Permissions
  • Change Password
  • Reset Password
  • Validated write to DNS host name
  • Validated write to service principal name

Hoping someone has seen this before or has an idea of where to go from here.

ConfigMgr task sequence not updating immediately after modifications

Hi,

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 environment with CU2 update.

My problem:

I am trying to change "apply network settings" step on the TS, so I can place new build machines to a new OU. When I change the settings , the TS does not update immediately. So when I build a machine it applies all the previous settings. I usually have to completely delete the "apply network settings" step and re-create it with the new settings to get it working.

I know in SCCM 2007 the task sequence updates immediately.

Note : Above TS is migrated from  SCCM2007 R2.

Does  experiencing the same issue and come up with a solutions ?

Thank you..

Task Sequence fails with error: The operating system reported error 2147942402: The system cannot find the file specified.

Hi, my company has migrate from sccm 2007 to SCCM 2012.

We have a lot of Windows 7 task sequences.

We used setup based installs in all of them, since this was no longer support we started using the install.wim files from original Windows 7 sources.

This works fine.

Sometimes a deployment fails with the following error

The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (NTrigMultiTouchDigitizer_A061-_x64_v1) in the group (DELL Latitude XT2) with the error code 2147942402

Install Software failed, hr=0x80070002. The operating system reported error 2147942402: The system cannot find the file specified.

The strange thing is, when we restage, this package 'might' install correctly, but it 'might' fail on a different package, sometimes the task sequence continues correctly.

In about 50% of all deployment we have these errors ' The system cannot find the file specified' but never the same package.

This happens only in SCCM 2012 not in SCCM 2007

Does anyone has any ideas? The network guy says 'it's not the network' as usual :)

What logs could i check?

Bizarre PXE Boot issues

Morning All,

Having HUGE issues with PXE booting in my environment!  Driving me to distraction and would appreciate a second glance from any of you guys who have great experience in this field.

Scenario:

1 x AD Site

1 x Site Server

1 x PXE enabled DP with DHCP installed

All Servers 2008 R2 Std x64 SP1 VM's

Keep finding the following repeated in my SMSPXE.log everytime a client tries to PXE boot:

Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows)SMSPXE11/07/2013 10:10:362732 (0x0AAC)

Have tried all sorts to fix this! Removed and re-installed the DP both with WDS and without WDS installed.  Tried pre-configuring WDS before re-enabling PXE on the DP to no avail.  Always the same sequence of errors in the log.  Have read many posts already on this and I have pretty much tried of my own back what they have suggested through a logical process of elimination.  Have set the WDS server up just with WDS and this was able to receive clients fine.

Checked to ensure all the SMSBoot\x86, etc is populated which is appears to be all in order.  Needless to say that the service fires up OK

Have tried with and without Option 66 & 67 set.  Pretty sure it's not a network issue as when i point 66 back at my old environment it serves the client as expected.

The Distribution point is serving clients with software packages as normal, just the PXE

It's probably something I've over looked but i can't think what.  Error code suggests access violation/access denied!? but I've set a site wide network access account which is Domain Admin and can see all resources.

I've checked out the SQL perms/roles on site server (SQL 2008 R2 std) and smsdbrole_PSP no longer exists as it did in 2007 R3, not sure if this could have some bearing over the situation as my hunch is that the WDS/PXE process is unable to contact or read data in the site database but i'm seriously desperate and open to any suggestions you have at this point.

I think i've actually aged another 2 years trying to sink this issue - thanks in advance guys

Prestaging, computer name and additional AD entries

$

Hi,

Just setting up a new WDS/MDT/AD deployment server. I want to control the computer name given to systems based on their MAC address.

My understanding is that I should be able to right click in AD, New > Computer, enter my desired computer name, select "Managed computer" and then enter 20 0s followed by the MAC address without any dashes or spaces. When I boot the target computer, this should then get installed and pick up the prestaged settings, including computer name etc.

When I do this, however, an extra entry gets created in AD with a random computer name.

To test that my original AD entry worked, I removed all known computers, set PXE-Response to only respond to know computers. I then tried to boot the target machine and it wouldn't receive the installation image. Next, I did my prestaging work, the computer booted and installed, but the extra entry got created in AD again.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

SSCM 2012 OSD: Unable to write to SSD

Hey

We have some new notebook computers that need imaging via SCCM 2012. The notebooks primary disk is a Sandisk Sata 3 128GB (G25), which is not an advanced format disk. When imaging the computer, the process fails when an attempt is made to write to the disk after it has been partitioned and formatted. Thus:

Partition disk: OK

Task Sequence - No Resume after Restart

Hi there,

we are having trouble with our sccm2012 sp1 environment in which we are using a task sequence to deploy several packages and application. (no OS) We are using the "Restart Computer" Object since some of our packages need a restart inbetween the installation process. The Deployment ist working fine and without any problems.

The "Restart Computer" is causing an error though. After a restart, the task sequence is not resuming and therefore not installing the rest of the applications. The smsts.log is showing the following error:

I noticed that the required file is missing after the restart. Is this normal? To troubleshoot i used several task sequences with different packages. Does anybody have an advice for me? Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Markus

Question about the sccm client regarding x64 x86 clients

Hi Guys,

Maybe you can clear something up for me. In my environment, we have a mixture of x86 and x64 clients. When setting up a task sequence, do I need to put a query on the setup configuration manager client step in the ts to determine the architecture? if so how can I do this? I have never did a query based on the architecture. Lastly would I need two client packages one for x64 clients and one for x86 clients?

Thanks for any advice.

MDT 2012 - Windows ADK Issue

$

If this is the wrong place, let me first apologize but I am curious is anyone has seen the following issue when installing MDT 2012 Update 1 and Windows ADK:

After installing MDT 2012 Update 1 and Windows ADK, I am unable to create a share in the Deployment Workbench, all I get is the box telling me:

Either the Windows Automated Installation Kit(AIK) or the Assessment and Deployment Kit(ADK) is required for interacting with deployment shares. Please install version 6.1.7600.0 or later.

I setup a new laptop (Lenovo x220 with Windows 7 Pro x64) to use and installed MDT 2012 Update 1 and then did the full install of the ADK (including SQL 2012 Express) and it does not work.

I can open the Windows System Image Manager from the ADK and create a share and do everything without issue but I cannot do anything from the Deployment Workbench as it only says that the AIK or ADK is required.

I tried installing on a Windows 8 Pro  x64 machine as well and get the same error so I am inclined to think I am missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

USB Media TS - StoreCIFromDisk: Unable to store CI

Hi to all

after three weeks I am still not able to solve the following issue. My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1 CU1 + MDT 2012 Update 1. If there is any hotfix to install let me know.

I have a fully functional task sequence which is working quite well when executed via PXE-Boot. If I create an USB media non of the applications get installed. To troubleshoot the issue I started from scratch with only a couple of applications. No problems detected. I added further applications and still no problems detected. As soon as I put all my applications into the task sequence all application install failed. So it looks like a "space" issue

Below ist the smsts.log + CI*.log. The CI*-Logs are merged. First I thought there is insufficient cache space. But after increasing the cache to 20GB I am pretty sure this cannot be the cause. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 x86 is installed in the following snippet but the same happens for each application.

If any further information is needed let me know because I can simple reproduce this error.

USB Standalone Media hash error

$

Another funny question.

My task sequence is running fine, also the "Create task media sequence" is not reporting any error which indicates an hash error but as soon as I start the staging from my stick for each application a hash error is reported.

Any ideas before I dig into the log files. The solution cannot be a complete redistrubtion of round about 50 GB of application data.

Any comments are welcome.

Joachim
