OSD domain join in a non trusted / cross forest domain

Hi!

I've recently set up a MP/DP in a non trusted / cross forest domain.
Everything is going smooth, except that the computer object is not moved (or created) to the correct OU, but instead it's created in the root Computers OU.

I've made sure that the domain join account has all the necessary permissions in the OUs.
The "Apply network settings" task in the Task Sequence is configured with the djoin account only. The "Domain OU" setting is blank.

Here's a snippet from my customsettings.ini:
[DefaultGateway]
32.10.195.1=GD
[GD]
MachineObjectOU=OU=Computers,OU=GUDA,OU=Medier,DC=GD,DC=local

Here's a snippet from smsts.log:

SetupErr.log is clean - no errors
SetupAct.log is also clean, the only thing I can see is that DJOIN.EXE MachineObjectOU = [NULL].

Has anyone been working with a similar issue?
I'm quite stuck here, and google doesn't say much about the subject.

Unable to Create Task Sequence Media - Hangs at 10%

Hi All,

I'm working with the SCCM 2016 (vNext) Technical Preview 3 running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM.  ADK 10 with MDT 2013 Update 1 are also installed.  The site has installed fine and appears to be running without any issues.  I've created a Build and Capture Task Sequence for Windows 10 Enterprise and deployed all packages to the local Distribution Point.

The problem I'm running into is with the "Create Task Sequence Media Wizard" where I walk through to create myBoot Media but the wizard just hangs sitting at "Processing 10%".  When I look in the local folder my ISO file appears to be there and is 505MB but the wizard remains open sitting at 10%.

Looking in my CreateTSMedia.log it says:

Start creating ISO image 'E:\OSD$\BootMedia\test.iso' using staging area 'C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\stage'

Command line: "C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\i386\oscdimg.exe" -m -h "-lConfiguration_Manager" -u2 -udfver102  -bootdata:2#p0,e,b"C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\x64\etfsboot.com"#pEF,e,b"C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\x64\efisys.bin""C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\stage" "E:\OSD$\BootMedia\test.iso"

Executing command line: "C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\i386\oscdimg.exe" -m -h "-lConfiguration_Manager" -u2 -udfver102 -bootdata:2#p0,e,b"C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\x64\etfsboot.com"#pEF,e,b"C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\Toolkit\SMS\bin\x64\efisys.bin""C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\_tsmedia_6440\stage" "E:\OSD$\BootMedia\test.iso"

It never gets past here until after about an hour where it will time out and exit at which point the temp files and my test.iso are deleted.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

OSD fails to join to domain

Hi people,

So I am having the worst time recently since upgrading my SCCM to the newest SP1. Basically every now and then I get an issue when a computer fails to join the domain. It doesn't happen every time, but I had the same symptoms occur in 3 different offices. Here are the entries from the logs:

Any ideas what might be causing this? Like I said...this is not happening in every built. The only thing I can provide to help with this is that it so far occured on Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen3 and Lenovo Yoga 14. Both are set up with ethernet adapters, but receive IP address fine in PXE. Could this be the issue? After reboot they fail to join cause the driver is missing? Don't want to give any suspicions to it...but it may be?

Thanks

Jakub

Hi Ladies and Gents,

I have a SCCM OSD Setup on my Network with MDT integrated for a User Driven setup, we wont to pre-populate the Domain and OU information but at present it is now showing up. We have changed the CustomSettings.ini file save and re-distributed it but we are still see the screen that looks like the one below;

Has anyone set this up and if so what did you change to get these settings into the system. Any pointer as to where to look are welcome.

Kind Regards,

recently my "unknown computers" OSD has stopped functioning, If I import the computer(s) into CM using MAC and assinging a CN the OSD TS works as expected.  I have uninstalled PXE and re-installed PXE, I have unchecked and rechecked the "unknown computer support" check box.  I'm not sure where else to look, below are snippets from respective logs

Boot Media

Hi,

Is it somehow possible to have both the x86 and x64 Boot Media on the same USB stick? Would not want to have a separate stick for x86 and x64.

New Build created (with patches) using MDT failing at or around apply image sequence every time.

Hi,

Having some issues deploying a new build.

Wes till have the old production build available to test that the sccm capability is working.

New image has been built following same process as previous, using MDT 2012-1, and deploy capture task sequence.

New image loaded into sccm.

Previous production task sequence copied to create the new ts for the new image wim.

new collection for staging this new image.

deployed ts to new collection. created new vm, pre staged the vm in sccms devices using mac address and added to new collection.  performed the same process with one of the physical test devices, to confirm that the issue isnt vm related.

deployment stops at the same point every time at the image apply section with an error code of 0x80070002

RE: Question regarding applying a Hotfix

hello guys. i'm finally starting to test deploying via pxe, but when i enabled it on my distribution point i got the error described on this thread:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9486c77d-d264-4770-a3a2-64384e787e90/windows-could-not-start-the-windows-deployment-services-server-error-1067-the-process-terminated?forum=configmanagerosd

so, i downloaded the hotfix:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2905002

but wanted to check something before i apply this thing. if i hold off on doing this and instead just apply SP1 with the latest CU after that will it also just resolve the problem? or do i have to apply the hotfix and then the SP1 stuff? i was planning to do the SP1 upgrade anyway in December and pxe booting is not critical right now.

RE: pxe booting problems

hello guys. i have upgraded our site to 2012 r2 sp1 with cu1. i could not see any problems there and can successfully deploy images via task sequences by using a bootable usb disk. however, when i try to boot off pxe my client gets an ip but then fails with:

PXE-E32 : TFTP open timeout

what i have done so far:

1) asked for the senior admins to add the following to their unix dhcp server (on a different subnet):
1.1) fqdn of sccm server (as tftp server dhcp option. i think they referred to it as "next server"),
1.2) file name which is: \smsboot\x64\wdsnbp.com

2) turned off the local firewall on sccm

3) made sure all my boot images are on the dp

4) i also made sure i ticked the box (to make the boot image is deployable from pxe dp) of the specific boot image i will require for my task sequence. there is a specific nic driver i had to inject

the remoteinstall folder and the file name path exists on the server. wds service is also running. port 69 in netstat is listening so i know its waiting for a connection.

when i boot the machine does get its ip so i'm not sure i really need an ip help function configured on our switches. or do i?

anyway can someone think of anything else i can try?

BDEDrive gets drive-letter after R2 upgrade

I´m having serious problem after R2 upgrade and I´m in a hurry to fix this, because OSD in production is interrupted.

So, before R2 upgrade, OSD with W7 x64 was working fine. Image had 2 indexes and it was captured with MDT based task, with 2 partitions (which is wrong, I know).

After I performed R2 upgrade, we noticed that Windows started go to D: drive. PreserveDrive letter variable has no effect, since image was captured previously in the wrong way. After I forced the image to go to C: By modifying Apply Image step (I changed from  OSDisk to Logical C:), I got W7 go to C: but now I can see BDEDrive letter in Windows Explorer. Enabling or disabling"do not assign drive letter to this partition" at BDEDrive partition has also no effect.

In WinPE and OSPhase, I can see drive letters with diskpart and BDEDrive has always come up with letter.

Capturing new image will take longer time to test everything else, so that´s why I´m trying to make this work with old image. CM 2012 R2 non-CU is with MDT 2013 and we´re using UDI based MDT tasks.

Any help or sightview is good, share you thoughts please :)

[Solved] OSD domain join in a non trusted / cross forest domain

32.10.195.1=GD
[GD]
MachineObjectOU=OU=Computers,OU=GUDA,OU=Medier,DC=GD,DC=local

Windows 10 - Wrong OS Version for captured image

Hi there experts

Today i noticed some strange Information in the ConfigMgr Console. I've got a Build and Capture Task-Sequence, which creates a Reference Image for Windows 10 Enterprise x64.

When i Import the generated WIM File into ConfigMgr the following OS Version is shown in the Operating System Images Node.

From my Point of view the Version should be something like "10.0..." and not "6.2..." which would be Windows 8???

Deployment works without any problems, just noticed this. Anyone around seen the same issue?

Environment: ConfigMgr 2012 R2 SP1 CU1

OS Deployment fails after first reboot in TS

$

Hello together,
I am currently troubleshooting a really strange issue with a failing OS deployment TS.

I got a new Dell Precision model, and want to deploy Windows 7 using our default TS for it. Everything works fine so far with other old and new models we got. Also the initial PXE boot on the Dell Precision works fine, all hardware is detected and first steps in the TS are completed successfully.
Then a reboot is initiated and instructed to boot to the TS boot image, but after reboot WinPE is not able to detect all hardware. The NIC is not detected and so the TS fails. I already tried to integrate the newest version of WinPE drivers and to delete and redistribute the boot image to DP, but no luck.

Does anybody have an idea about this issue? I have only one workstation of this new model, so I cannot test with other hardware.

I have no idea why this could happen, because all hardware is detected during initial PXE boot, and after reboot the same boot image is used. Thanks a lot for any idea.

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU1

When running a powershell script in Win PE, the step bombs out with the following. This worked fine in WinPE 5 but fails in WinPE 10.

powershell.exec - Application Error

The exception illegal instruction

An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction (0xc000001d) occurred in the application at location 0x00007FF845CBA761

Has anyone else seen this before?

I dont think we should be able to make powershell.exe crash should we??!

Any ideas? I might try recreating the boot media, but it seems fine in every other way and we're imaging devices without a problem.

F8 Command Prompt not working

Hi,

We're running SCCM 2012 R2 CU2. Our boot images have Enable command support enabled. I am able to use F8 to get a command window at the Welcome to the Task Sequence Wizard. After the first restart, F8 and Shift-F10 have no effect.

I have a computer that keeps getting hung somewhere in the task sequence but I have no way to get to the logs. If I force power off and power on again, the computer is stuck in the same place again with no command window support. I tried booting to WinPE and use CMTrace but it cannot access the OS drive from the "in-progress" deployment which I believe could be due to drive encryption.

How do I get the command prompt (F8) to work? I have done some searching and haven't found a solid answer yet.

Thanks,

Rob

Failed to find a valid network adapter but ipconfig in command prompt shows an IP address

As the title indicates, when we boot some models of computers (not all) into WinPE to start a task sequence, we immediately get an error that states "Failed to find a valid network adapter."  When we press F8 to get a command prompt and run ipconfig, we confirm that we are getting an ip address and we can ping the management point and the local dp.  If we close out of the error and run TsBootShell.exe the wizard successfully pulls the available task sequences.

Thanks in advance.  Let me know if you need further information!

How to inject drivers in the Windows 10 upgrade task sequence

Hello There,

I used this article (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt426642(v=vs.85).aspx) and created a Windows 10 upgrade task sequence. This works perfectly fine, but the only issue is that I cannot inject driver packages to this task sequence. I have a few flavour of Lenovo laptops with different driver models.

Windows 10 installs most of the drivers during the upgrade, but some of the video drivers are not installing since they are not in the Windows package. Please advise if you have any suggestions that may help in my situation.

Thanks,
Sameer

SCCM 2012 R2 Copy Admin Profile to Default Before Image Capture Deletes It

$

So I have been going round and round reading articles on this issue. We use straight SCCM no MDT, litetouch or anything else for OS capture and deployment. I am building a reference machine where I have customized the desktop of the local admin account and want to copy that over to the default profile before sysprep wipes out the admin profile. The problem resides when I use the SCCM capture image wizard. After I have prepared the reference image with my profile customizations and I run the SCCM capture image wizard, (which sysprep is built in to the capture image wizard) sysprep wipes out the default admin profile.

Now when we used WDS without SCCM I was able to specifiy an unattend.xml file when sysprepping the refrence machine. In the Unattend.xml file I would tell Sysprep to copy the admin profile to the default before it wiped the admin profile. I cannot figure out how to duplicate this with SCCM capture image wizard as you cannot specify an unattend file to use with Capture Image wizard.

The unattend.xml  copyprofile=true used in task sequences only works if your customization were already copied to the default profile during the image capture phase.

I am trying this with WIndows 10. I am running SCCM 2012 R2 SP1, and have deployed the W10 WAIK.

If anyone can shed light on how to go about this I would appreciate it. TIA
