When PE first boots up and starts installing the OS I have an IP address. It then reboots, and the apply network settings task runs outside of PE, it reboots again, and goes back into PE for the Apply Drivers tasks. I hit f8 on this PE window and I have NO ip address or anything. Ipconfig shows it as it would without any drivers.

There is this error previous to the one above. But I'm not sure if its related.

OSD + Windows 7 SP1 x64 + IE10 = Task Sequence failure 0x80004005

Hello.

I'm attempting to OSD Windows 7 SP1 x64 with IE10 and not being successful; the operating system installs and an application, but then the task sequences aborts with 0x80004005.

I am using the ISO downloaded from Microsoft, which contains IE8.  Using the ISO as is or installing IE9, performing a capture, then deploying the captured image, everything works advertised without incident.

However, when IE10 is introduced using the ISO mentioned above either by installing IE9, then IE10 and performing a capture or just IE10 and performing capture, the task sequence aborts with 0x80004005 on the first application, doesn't matter what it is, of the only Install Applications step.

As can be seen in the below snippet from the AppEnforce.log, the Configmgr 2012 ToolKit SP1 was installed, detected, and runs as advertised.  However, as can been seen the below snippet from the task sequence log, for whatever reason the component, perhaps the DCM Agent, is not returning the correct status, "Application is available for installation".

If I check "Continue on Error" in the Install Application step, all applications install successfully and work as advertised.

When installing IE10, I installed the prerequisites for Windows 7 SP1 x64 first and also let the IE10 setup program download and install the prerequisites with same result.

Again, it doesn't what the application is.

Has anyone seen this or anything like it?

Thank you in advance for any assistance offered.

John Bull

Hi guys,

Fresh installation of SCCM 2012 SP1 on Windows 2012.

First installed all the pre-req's, like ADK etc...

SCCM installed fine, reporting services up and running, I'm able to add new applications, but there are no Boot Images loaded.

If I try to add it by myself via the console the wizard fails with the error:

I can find the following errors in my installation log:

Supress "Your display language"

When I’m building my Windows 8 image I’m adding a couple of language packs offline with DISM.EXE.

When Windows 8 then boots it shows the window for "Your display language" "Pick the language you'll want to see and use most on this computer".

I’ve tried to add task sequence variables for “UILanguage”, “SystemLocale” and “UserLocale” to suppress this window but with no success.

What’s needed to suppress this choice?

hello

im hoping somebody can shed some light on this

I am running sccm 2012 sp1 and everything work fine

one model of laptop refuses to pxe boot successfully (Research Machines RM nbook 4400 with realtek 8102e NIC)

it contacts dhcp gets an ip address connects to server

ive captured an image from the same model of laptop and loaded it sccm

downloads the boot.wim file (not NIC driver issue then???) then when the windows logo appears (winpe) it just hangs there instead of proceding with the task sequence

other models will run the same task sequence and advertisement ok

some entries from smspxe.log on server for failed pxe ....no advertisments found....no boot action.rejected.....not serviced

anybody got an idea where to start with this ...ive about 500 of these laptops to reimage

thanks

Karl

OS WIM file downloads during Setup Windows and ConfigMgr

$

Let me start by saying, this is not the same issue as this post ;-)

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/58610c01-97b9-476e-9a22-fc0e31033de5

I decided to test the option in 2012 for "Apply Operating System" that allows you to run from DP (Windows 8 image).  The overall Task Sequence is set to download and execute so wanted to test how much time it would save to run the Apply OS phase from the DP.  Well it didn't save any time as the step "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" downloaded the WIM file prior to downloading the SCCM Client install files.

I double checked the source paths for my Client Package and my OS package and they do not contain one others code in them so unlike the post above its not a package source issue.

Has anyone else tried using the check box for run from DP only for apply OS?  Curious if this behavior happens even without the check box and it just goes right past it and download the client files since the WIM already exists from the Apply OS phase..

When the build completes I'll start digging through log files to see if there are any clues..

Thoughts?

Thanks,
William

Office 2013 icons not on Windows 8 Start Menu

Using SCCM 2012 SP1 to deploy Windows 8 and Office 2013. All seems fine except there are no Office 2013 icons on the start menu or the taskbar. If you right click on the desktop and select view all apps they are there. These are computers for school kids and the icons must be on the Start Menu and Taskbar. We can't just fix the issue for one student because many different students will be logging in to each computer.

So what's the secret to make Office 2013 items to appear for all users?

Deploy Windows 8 metro app in OSD

$

Hello,
I'm working on certifying notebooks with Windows 8 image for corporate use and have faced some issues with Windows 8 sideloading.

Lenovo provides "Lenovo Settings" application for its notebooks. It's additional software to handle battery, wireless, etc. and it's implemented as Metro-style app. It could be found in Windows Store, however, Lenovo also provies stand-alone solution for enterprise in .appx format that could be sideloaded. Unfortunately, Lenovo do not provide instructions on how to load and instead points to Microsoft documentation.

When I try to sideload application to user/machine after OOBE with dism or powershell - everything works great. Application appears to users and could be used.

I was also able to inject the application to .wim file in offline mode. I'm aware of necessary group policies and pre-set both of them:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx]
"AllowAllTrustedApps"=dword:00000001
"AllowDeploymentInSpecialProfiles"=dword:00000001

But the real problem comes when I try to deploy image to the fresh PC (I use SCCM 2012 SP1, OSD feature). I can list all loaded apps with (DISM /online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages) and Lenovo Settings app lists as installed during any action in task sequence in FullOS mode. But when I first logon to the machine after deployment, application do not appear to user (I know about built-in Administrator restriction and I'm using custom account that is admin on the PC). Using the same command to view installed W8 applications, Lenovo Settings do not appear any more in the list.

I was able to find one entry in the logs (Event Viewer -> Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows > AppxDeployment-Server -> Microsoft-Windows-AppXDeploymentServer/Operational):
Package(s) with the following package full names were not registered due to sideloading policy restrictions:
LenovoCorporation.LenovoSettings_1.1.0.11169_x86__4642shxvsv8s2

Image - Windows 8 Enterprise x64.And It's joined to the domain during OSD (Apply Network Settings step, before I've used DISM to add W8 app). All sideloading requirements are met.

I've tried to reapply AllowAllTrustedApps and AllowDeploymentInSpecialProfiles policies in Task sequence from using gpedit.msc, then I've tried to reapply Lenovo settings using dism - it says that import is successfull and application could be listed as installed. But the same problem appears when I logon to the deployed PC.

So, my question is whether Microsoft supports Windows 8 metro-application sideloading during OS deployment. And if so, what would be the correct procedure to overcome described issue?

As for now, I've tested all cases that I can think of, so any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you!

Install drivers based on motherboard type

Hello All!

We have a new PC that is a "built" computer so there is no Manufacture to get the "Computer System" from WMI. I have found that all the motherboards are the same using the Intel DB75EN.

How do I call the drivers in my Task Sequence to install the driver package? I was trying this but its not working.

Select *FROM Win32_BaseBoard Where Product Like "%<DB75EN>% "

I usually just use SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE Model LIKE "%<6272GU>%" but since i dont have a "model or manufacturer" it will not work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Mark-

SCCM captured custom WIM deployment using WDS

$

Firstly, I wasn't sure whether to put this under SCCM or WDS so apologies if its in the wrong section...

I have a situation where I need to quickly (and temporary until we put SCCM in place) install a WDS server on a newly acquired business site to rebuild around 100 machines. We have SCCM in our worldwide business and have a number of custom built images depending on many things like country, business, sector etc...however, the newly acquired business is not able to migrate onto our network and WAN for around 12 months (office politics) but we have to get all the current machines up to our standard image for that business and country within the next month.

Anyway, thats the situation, my suggestion was to quickly setup a WDS server, add the drivers, boot images and WIM files that were needed and start rebuilding. Foolishly, I thought I could import our current custom WIM's from SCCM into WDS but when I try this, I get an error as below:

These wim files have been created by the SCCM capture media after a custom windows installation was created (with some custom apps and Office 2010 installed).

So, to cut a very long story short, am I doing something wrong and is there a workaround for this, or am I completely off the mark and will I have to create a new custom image and then capture it using the sysprep method / WDS capture boot image?

Thanks for your help in advance...

"No assigned task sequence" in SMSTS.LOG

$

We have a ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 primary site that we are using to deploy OS to "all unknown computers" in a test lab.  We have three separate task sequences advertised to "all unknown computers".  We have generated boot media (.iso) that we are using with HyperV virtual machines.  The machines boot fine from the media, then we see the following in SMSTS.LOG:

WelcomePage::OnWizardNext()
Loading Media Variables from "D:\sms\data\variables.dat"
no password for vars file
No assigned task sequence.
Setting wizard error: There are no task sequences available for this computer.
Skipping Confirmation Page.
Skipping Task Sequence Selection Page.
Skipping Variables Selection Page.
Skipping Resolve Progress Page.
Activating Finish Page.

This happens even with a newly-generated VM with a brand new MAC address.  For VMs that we are rebuilding, we are deleting all "unknown" computer objects from devices.

As a test, we created a separate collection for one of our VMs whose MAC address was known and advertised the task sequence to it.  It also failed to receive policy.

My management point is healthy and responding to HTTP requests.  My clients are leasing IP addresses that are within a boundary group that would assign them to my site. Is there something else that I can check to see why my clients are not receiving task sequence policy?

Thanks,

FP

OSD Task Sequences - Foolproof Way to Use C: for OS

$

Good Afternoon All -

I'm really frustrated and need some help.  For the past few months, I have deployed our company'sold Gold Image which I captured to a WIM.  Finally, I was able to talk them into letting me build an OSD TS which was based off an OEM Win 7 WIM and steps thereafter to install the applications.  I did a B&C to slipstream many of the common apps and updates into the OEM Wim, but that's beside the point.

This new TS is currently in a testing phase right now alongside the old method.  Each are also set up to use MDT's UDI Wizard.

The Issue

I cannot get the OS to install onto C: no matter what workaround I try!  It usually installs to D: or E: - seemingly depending on the state of the disk when the TS starts. Therefore, I decided to make sure that variable was constant.  I wrote a couple of diskpart scripts, added them to my boot image, and before the OSD TS formats the disk now, diskpart cleans the disk.  The good news is that it seemed to get more stable about wether to use D: or e:, but still no C:!!!

What I've Tried (In task sequences using OEM WIM or captured)

  • On "Apply OS" step, changed it from using OSDisk variable to C: - nogo
  • Set OSDisk variable to C: by adding new step before "Apply OS" - nogo
  • Created variable OSDTargetDrive to C: - nogo
  • Set OSDPreserveDriveLetter to True - nogo
  • OSDPreserveDriveLetter to False - nogo

Note:  The initial OSD TS from OEM referenced an installer in "Apply OS" step.  After doing the B&C to slipstream stuff, I load the WIM and am presented with two images "1-1" and 2-2" Which to use?

Any Ideas on a surefire way to get this to work every time?  Thanks!

SCCM 2012: Enabling PXE support does not install WDS on server

I'm trying to enable PXE support on our SCCM DP.

I enable the checkbox under the PXE tab to alllow PXE support for clients. This should start the install of WDS on the server. It doesn't!

Checked the roles and WDS is not listed on the server.

Looked at distmgr.log and WDS does not get installed or started. All I see is:

Question for those who have experience creating CAD/3D images using sccm.

Hi,

This is more a general question for those who create CAD/3D images using sccm?, did you build your image virtually or on physical hardware?, if you did create your gold image on physical hardware, did you create a non-sysprepped image first before doing the sealed sccm capture?.

I am really curious as to what is/was the workflow of others who build CAD / 3D images using SCCM.

I can't seem to figure out why about 10 updates installed, and the rest just bomb out. I did go ahead and exclude all the folders from the antivirus, even though I'm running SCEP.

Thanks

Mac clients - managing and using endpoint through SCCM 2012

I've setup sccm 2012 to manage Mac clients and they now have the configuration client.

How do I go about pushing the endpoint client down to these machines?

Thanks in advance.

I set a ts to capture my master machine after hours at 11:30, is there a way to automate the distribute this content to the DP after the upload is finished?

Timed out: Waiting for ccmexec service to be fully operational

Hi,

We have just started using SCMC 2012, and I am currently testing OSD in it. I have a TS with about 10 steps, but it gets stuck after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step. By stuck I mean, the target machine runs Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step successfully, reboots, installs the necessary, reboots again and then when it comes back up it does nothing.

SMSTS.log file shows that its waiting for ccmexec to become fully operational and exactly after 30 minutes, it times out. I have googled this extensively and have come across very interesting links. One suggested that I create a new ConfigMgr client package - tried that with no avail. Another suggested to create a group in AD called ConfigMgr Remote Control Users - tried this one as well but no avail. I have also created a new OS Image (deployed and then captured using SCCM 2012 capture media), but this also didn't work. Are there any other things that I can do?

I have tried the above steps with OS Image imported from SCCM 2007, and from a newly captured (imported SCCM 2007 OS image in SCCM 2012, created a TS in SCCM 2012 with just OS Image to be applied, deployed a VM using that image and then captured using SCCM 2012 capture media), but they have not worked so far.

Thanks.

How to install Windows Update Agent during SCCM 2012 Deploy and capture task sequence

I have WSUS site role installed on my standalone primary.

The "Install updates" task sequence step runs and installs 69 updates successfully, but upon running Windows update after hitting the desktop I see that I am prompted to install the new Windows update agent which then finds an additional 110+ updates to install.

I downloaded the Windows Update Agent v3 x64 version and hoping to include it in my task sequence as a package install just before the "install updates" task sequence step, but it fails to install during the task sequence.

So I attempted to install the Windows Update Agent v3 manually in a clean install of Windows 7 x64 with SP1 and it fails with error "Windows Update Agent Installer Fatal Error , Windows Update Agent Installer encountered unrecoverable error"

Any suggestions on how to proceed from here?
