MDT Monitoring with SCCM

Running MDT 2013 Update 1, SCCM 2012 R2 SP1, Trying to get MDT Monitoring working and it is but not to the extent I need.

I am running this after every reboot to try have Real Time status (Seems to work)

http://poorlycoded.blogspot.com/2012/11/using-mdt-monitoring-with-config.html

I am using this at the end of my Task Sequence to capture Logs

http://schadda.blogspot.com/2012/01/sccm-2012-how-to-catch-errors-in-task.html

So the "Real Time" monitoring seems to work except for an script error that pops up (Task Sequence keeps running) but at the end of completion in Deployment Workbench it shows Status Running Percent Complete 100 but never goes to a completed status. Thoughts?  Is there a better method to get this accomplished?  Also I would like to have Dart Load on every reboot is this possible?

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Installing Win 7 on machine with 2 drives OSD 2012 r2

I have a Lenovo T450. It has 2 drives a 16 gb ssd ,and a 500GB.

I have used the winpe usb boot to check the disk/partitions.

diskpart\list disks

disk 0 online 465gb 465gb free

disk 1 online 14gb 14gb free

When I use a regular usb to load windows 7 it notes the 450gb drive as disk 1.

In the old MDT/2007 env I do install the os to disk 1.

When I try to install the os to disk 1 using sccm 2012 r2 it install to the 16 gb partition.

I did see some people say there may be a bug.  But what confuses me is diskpart shows it as disk 0 being the 450 gb using the winpe/f8.  But when I try to install via usb/with win 7 the 450 gb shows a s disk 1.  Shouldn't this be the same for both?

Does OSD without MDT have issues installing to machines with 2 drives?

OSD issue with Network Cards

Hey Everyone,

I seem to be running into an issue with the Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 network drivers. The laptop can PXE boot into the PE environment and start the imaging process and has an IP address during this part, but what happens is after the second or third reboot during the OSD process, the laptop does not have an IP address anymore. Currently running SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 and trying to install Win7 SP1 x64 onto the client machine.

Here's what’s been done so far:

  1.       Created a new boot image x64
  2.       Injected the Intel 82579LM x64 drivers into the new x64 boot image (version/s: e1c62x64.inf 12.10.29.0)
  3.       Injected the Intel I217-LM x64 drivers into the new x64 boot image

version/s:

e1d62x64.inf= 12.12.50.4

e1d62x64.inf=12.13.17.7

e1d6232.inf=12.13.17.7

Like I said the start of the OSD process works, and you can press F8, and the CMD prompt will come up and type IPCONFIG /all and this client machine gets the IP information. The OS gets installed, but then the client machine does not join the domain because the network drivers are not installed, so the OSD process does not complete correctly. I’m able to update the correct LAN drivers to this client machine by using a CD, which grabs the e1c62x64.inf file, and then the network card works.

I’m stumped!!!

Machine dies before task sequence menu appears

This article describes my problem to the letter: http://www.kozeniauskas.com/itblog/2008/07/10/sccm-system-reboots-after-loading-winpe/   Namely this:

So you are trying to OSDnew machine using SCCM. The machine boots from PXE and starts loading WinPE. You see WinPE SCCM background image with a window ‘Windows is starting up‘ after that you briefly see message ‘Preparing network connection‘. The message disappears and you only see the background, and then system reboots. In the task sequence log file smsts.log you find the error messages:
Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001) PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005

I've done what this site suggests.  I've downloaded all the NIC drivers I can find for the Dell Latitude E7250 Laptop.  I've updated my boot .wim with all of these NIC drivers.  I've updated my DP's with the new boot.wim yet this keeps happening.  I've also noticed that right when the OSD process starts and I press F8 I have no IP address.   Yet I don't see that info reflected in the SMSTS.LOG file.   I do have link lights flashing on the NIC port so I'm not sure why I don't have an IP.

Any suggestions would be great!

OSD Refresh with USMT and Bitlocker

$

Hi all,

I've created an OSD TS for a new build which partitions and formats the HDD and run with Bitlocker which works perfectly but when I try to create a new OSD TS but this time using USMT I have lots of issues. I've got a Disable Bitlocker step at the start of my USMT OSD TS but it's failing at the start with the below errors:

 - Volume C size is 350mb and less than 750MB

 - Volume D:\ is not using a support file system

 - Volume D is not a supported file system. Only NTFS and FAT 32 are supported

Does the standard Step 'Disable Bitlocker' work in XPE/WinPE?

INFO

Partition 1 = 350mb (for Bitlocker) - in Windows this does not have a drive letter

Partition 2 = 100% of rest of disk - in Windows this is set to be the C: Drive

Disable Bitlocker: set to 'current operating system drive' and then 'C:'

Thanks,

Andrew

Wrong LAN driver on Lenovo L440

I have a issue with distributing OS from SCCM to L440.

When I load the image onto the PC, it select the lan driver I217-LM, but it has to use I218-LM. I have registreted the rigth driver in the SCCM, but both drivers is installed on the server, and I can't see, how I can get the system to select I218-LM instead of I217-LM.

I hope someone can help me.

Task sequence error 0x80042453

Hi,

I'm using for few months Windows 2012 R2 Server image for OSD process. Till now (usually on VM machines) this works fine. Unfortunately today, after PXE boot, on "Partition Disk 1" stage I'm getting Task Sequence error 0x80042453. I have asked Google for this but... it looks like that is not well described error.

Could I ask you did you met with similar issue during OSD and how you have fixed this?

Thank you.

Hi Everyone !

On a new sccm enviroment i have deployed , im having this strange issue :

A client computer is attempting boot from network , gets ip from dhcp as usual and Trying to connect to  the DP.

After a few seconds , the client gets tftp timeout and failes...

I checked smspxe.log  , wds Logs and came up with nothing so i checked the firewall logs.

I have noticed that the client is Dropped with these ports on the following order :

UDP/2070

UDP/2071

UDP/2072

UDP/2073

UDP/2074

After these 5 attempts i get the timeout , anyone knows there ports ? why the client is trying them at all ?

HP SSM Driver Install Prompts

Currently running ConfigMgr 2012 R2 CU4 on Windows 2012 server.

I am testing out using the HP SSM utility to deploy drivers. A WMI query points to the correct folder for the utility to look at for it's drivers and that all works out fine for all models I have set up. The problem I am having involves some of the Intel drivers popping up a message box that the driver was installed successfully. This creates a delay in the OSD since it is waiting for OK to be pressed. If I let the process run untouched, additional message boxes will pop up with the same message.

Only some Intel drivers do this. It seems that the "silent" arguments I pass to the HP SSM utility are not honored by the Intel installer utility. Is there an elegant way to close these message boxes? A PoSh wrapper using SendKeys, kill the installer process? I do not want to have to extract MSI's from the HP packages and make custom packages for each offending driver.

Lenovo X1 Carbon Laptop

Has anyone on this forum ever gotten a Lenovo X1 Carbon to successfully build via CM2012 OSD?    I have not met or spoken to anyone that has gotten this device to work.  If you did get it working how?

WinPE works.  It has a network connection but once the system reboots into Windows the network adapter drivers don't load and you have no network connectivity.  We have tried many things to fix it and nothing works.

Microsoft tech support won't help since it is a Lenovo issue.
Lenovo tech support won't help since we building the device in a "non standard way"

So we need help and if you have the answer we are all ears.

SCCM: BSOD with Windows 10 Deployment and UEFI/Secure Boot

$

Hey guys,

we have a good working Win10 Image on our SCCM2012R2SP1. To use all the new features of Windows 10 we want to change to UEFI and Secure Boot. So we changed the Image to format a Windows RE Tools Partition, a EFI Partition, a MSR Partiton and our usual OSDISK Partition.

It worked fine for a about two weeks and then from one to the other day we end up with a BSOD after a restart on the beginning of the Windows Setup phase during the deployment. The BSOD says only "critical process died".

Any ideas whats going wrong? We have the problem on our Lenovos x250, T440p, T540p and some older models as well as on our Hyper-V-Environment.

Greetings,
Jan

SCCM 2012 Deployment OS HP EliteBook failed

I have a SCCm 2012 SP1 CU4 environment which works fine.

I deploy OS to my HP Elitebook 820/840 (with Hybrid/Cache disks !!!).

When deploying using PXE everything works fine.

When I create a USB key from the same (PXE boot) image the deployment failed !!

Very strange and I can't find a solution for it.

Does someone has any tips/hint or is familiar with this problem and knows a solution ?

Errors I get:

  • 80070057
  • when opening command prompt (F8) from WinPE 4 I can access the disk and even I see that SCCM 2012 write a logfile to the disks.....strange///still it tells it can't access the disk ...very strange

Samsung 900X3G - will not encrypt during OSD. Pre-Provision fails

$

Hello,

I'm running into an issue with using BitLocker during OSD on a particular Samsung model. According to the SMSTS.log the provision BitLocker step fails to detect an Active TPM. I do not have this issue with any of our Dells or Lenovo's. So far it's just this Samsung model.

After the task sequence completes I am able to manually kick off encryption after I reboot the machine. The reboot seems to be needed to take ownership of the TPM. After the restart and encrypt the keys show up in Active Directory and MBAM. According to the BIOS the TPM is active.

Model: 900X3G BIOS: America Megatrends Inc. BIOS Version: P05ADU.025.140523.PS TPM Maker: IFX v. 3.19

Troubleshooting:

Verified the disk partitions. 350 BDEDrive & 100% of remaining space for the OSDrive

Verified the TPM driver is installed through the driver package. It shows up as a 1.2

I used a vanilla and MDT tasks sequence. It's my understanding they use different utilities to kick off BitLocker.

I moved the "enable bitlocker" step around the task sequence

Added a run command line "manage-bde.exe -on c:" at the end of the TS

Has anyone else run into a model that will just *not* work during OSD?

Thanks

W7 > W10 SCCM Upgrade Task hangs

$

Hi, i'm trying to upgrade W7x64 Ent to W10x64 Edu with SCCM.

Importing the scripts etc. goes OK. Task starts OK, when it comes to action: Upgrade Windows - the task hangs. Nothing is happening after that..

I can see in the C:\ -drive _SMStaskSequence folder and _vNextUpgrade folder.

In _SMS -folder there is file called TSEnv.dat and in vNext folder are the scripts.

I cant find any errors in the log files, so I'm pretty lost what is causing this. Same thing happens when I try to upgrade from Windows 8.1.

Any help or pointers would be welcomed!

USMT issues

Good day

I am experiencing a situation where a machine is not receiving a task sequence to refresh a computer retaining user data. The client machine doesn't not receive anything even if I trigger the Machine Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle action. I have tried to put firewall exceptions but still see nothing advertised in the software center. What could be the cause of this?

Deploy Windows 10 via SCCM Task Sequence

$

Hello,

For testing purposes, I am trying to deploy Windows 10 via my SCCM 2012 R2 OSD. The deployment Task Sequence goes well until it arrives to install the ConfigMgr Client and it does not move on to install my apps/programs since the ConfigMrg installation fails. I know that ConfigMgr is not installing on Windows 10 unless you specify this switch (/skipprereq:windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe). In order to tweak this, I created a package with the program command to run this (CCMSetup.exe /mp:mysccmserver.mydomain /logon SMSSITECODE=mysitecode FSP=myfspserver.mydomain /skipprereq:windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe), and I added in the package to install SCCM client. Then I included this package in my Task Sequence to run before the SCCM client installation starts, but still no luck. When my task sequence comes to the step to install SCCM client nothing happens as it seems that task sequence cannot run this step and completely ignores SCCM client installation and suddenly Windows login screen shows up.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sameer

Using USB bootable media and forcing OS to C:

$

We usually PXE boot new PCs to install an image from ConfigMgr 1511. We have recently purchased some tablets which do not support PXE booting so we have created USB bootable media from the ConfigMgr console. We can successfully deploy an image but the OS ends up with drive letter D: as sysprep see the USB drive and allocates it C: . The task sequence already contains a step with OSDPreserveDriveLetter set to False before the Apply Operating System Image, but it doesn't work in this scenario (does from a PXE boot).

If we remove the USB drive after the task sequence is started but before the first restart everything works as expected, but I'm sure the techies are going to forget to do this. Has anyone else come across this problem and if so any advice on how to get around it?
