Install Updates fails - 0x80244010

CM 2012 R2 Cu2. Windows 7 x64 SP1 captured image a year ago.

The problem is, that during OSD the update step fails.

Here is what I´ve already tried;

- To set 4-5 of them in a row will not solve anything.
- newest WUA agent installing before this
- new DP is installed to the same LAN, all content distributed (ensured with netstat it´s connected to right DP)
- Googled a lot ;)

...just thinking, what are the chances the image is corrupted?

The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (Install Software Updates part 1) in the group (State Restore) with the error code 2149859344

SCCM 2012 R2 - Prompted for BitLocker PIN during OSD

$

Hello,

I have an MDT-integrated task sequence deploying Windows 8.1 in the Refresh scenario to Windows 8.1 machines with MBAM-managed BitLocker, set to require a PIN.

The problem I'm having is when I run the task sequence, I am prompted to enter the BitLocker PIN immediately after the first reboot that occurs after the ConfigMgr client is installed.

I have added a task immediately before the reboot action which runs c:\windows\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\powershell.exe suspend-bitlocker -rebootcount 10 -MountPoint "C:".The built in task to disable BitLocker also runs and completes successfully towards the beginning of the task sequence. The client settings package deployed to all workstations has the setting "Suspend BitLocker PIN entry on restart" set to Always. I've also tried removing the MBAM client before running the Refresh.

Any idea what could be causing the PIN prompt?

WE have upgraded out SCCM2012 R2 site server to SP 1.<o:p></o:p>

Everything went as expected but when we wanted to
deploy an OS with a PXE boot we received the following error:<o:p></o:p>

All of the actions suggested are for older versions of

Correct Method for OS Deployment

Hi guys,

Hoping you can help. I currently use SCCM to deploy software updates but have been given the task of streamlining our PC build desk. I am a pretty much a novice at all other aspects of SCCM.

The idea is that we can power on a PC on the network and have SCCM deploy the operating system.

What I'm struggling with is what is the best method to use. What I'm confused about is, how does SCCM deploy an operating system to a PC which is not yet managed?

What I've done so far - upload an image to SCCM and create a task sequence. I can see this working for an image which is already managed but how does one go about doing un-managed PCs?

If you could tell me the method I am looking to use, or at least point me in the right direction.

Kind Regards, Travis

Add computer description to AD in task sequence

I've set up my UDI Wizard to prompt for a computer description which adds the information to the local computer. Is there a way to also have it added to AD after the machine is joined to the domain as well?

OSD Bat File create and add local admin

I have created a batch file to create a user, password and add them to the local administrators group,

@echo off
setlocal
set NewAdmin=User_Name
set NewPassword=Password
set NewComment=Infrastructure Local Administrator
echo Creating user account '%NewAdmin%' ...
net.exe user "%NewAdmin%" "%NewPassword%" /add /comment:"%NewComment%"
echo Adding '%NewAdmin%' to local administrators ...
net.exe localgroup Administrators "%NewAdmin%" /add
REM *** If the "wmic.exe" line is executed, it will disable the "Must change password" option ("/logonpasswordchg:YES" in "net user /add"), because these two are mutually exclusive.
echo Setting password of '%NewAdmin%' to never expire ...
wmic.exe useraccount WHERE "Name='%NewAdmin%'" SET PasswordExpires=FALSE

It works when I run it locally but when I run it using a cmd line or as a program in a task sequence it fails. I currently have the task sequence positioned between the "Apply Windows Settings" and "Apply Network Settings"

Any help would be appreciated.

"enable PXE support for clients" greyed out and unchecked

At some point recently our SCCM 12 server stopped responding to PXE boots.  So after looking in sites and services distribution point properties I found that enable pxe support for clients checkbox is unchecked and greyed out.  In fact everything in distribution point properties is greyed out.  I have verified that the boot image is selected to deploy from the distribution point and it is present at the point.

Is this a permissions issue perhaps?

SCCM 1511 Inplace upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 exits without any errors. Software Center Installation Progress doesn't pop up

I am trying Inplace upgrade Task Sequence to upgrade Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise computers.

I build a TS using Inplace upgrade wizard from SCCM Console on SCCM 1511.

Imported Windows 10 Enterprise from ISO. Clients has been updated with latest version

Experiencing various issues.

After running InPlace upgrade TS from Software Center, TS quits with in a minutes and software center closed as well without any errors. No errors shows in SMSTS.log, TSAgent.log

Upon re-launch of Software Center Available Software and Installation Status Tab shows nothing.

Tried run actions from Configuration Manager Client in Control Panel, no luck

Reinstalled Client and finally TS shows back again.

Interesting aspect - After about 15-30 minutes I found InPlace upgrade Task Sequence kicks back on couple of machines and upgrades to windows 10 successfully

Anybody experiencing similar issues or any advise to check any specific log file

Requesting assistance.

Dear Expertz,

Recently, I started working on a windows 10 upgrade scenario using SCCM 2012 R2 where Vnext Windows10Upgrade1506.zip methods work as shown in technet article.

All seemed correct , I have a working SCM 2012 R2 server, I downloaded  Windows10Upgrade1506.zip, extracted, and put windows 10 source file into media folder, then I tried to import the zip file to the task sequence as shown in the blog, then I receive the following error

Does anyone has idea why it is coming??

user data from Desktop deleted after upgrading to windows 10

Hi Expertz,

I was performing an In-place Upgrade using vnext upgrade task sequence from windows 7 SP1 to windows 10 1511, all went well except the files I kept on desktop of Domain administrator account disappeared but under c:\ all test files are present.

All setting outlook & installed software like Adobe reader were present.

My question is do I need modifications in the upgrade task sequence to restore user files in the desktop itself???

Could you help me with configuration of SCCM and WDS when they are at different server. Do we have any configuration for WDS?

Im using configmgr 2012 R2 with MDT integration.  I have a task sequence that is getting stuck on the UDI wizard stage.  In the progress bar it just gets stuck at UDI Wizard and gets no further.  the smsts log stops at "mapping server share"  the user logged in has permissions to that drive and I can browse it.

I have used this udi wizard in other task sequences before.  any ideas on where to look?

Refreshing windows 7 Enterprise machine to Windows 10 1511 using SCCM 2012 SP1

Hi Expertz,

I was refreshing a Windows 7 SP1 Ent machine to Windows 10 1511 Ent with Adode reader & Office 2010, outlook configured. Installed using SCCM task sequence using Hard link migration. To make things clear & understandable I put test files on desktop & under C drive.

After Refresh was complete, here is my observation:

1> instead of C drive : windows 10 was installed on a  X drive

2> Adobe & office was gone, absent,so does no outlook

3> All test files on desktop are present

My concern was to install Outlook with user profile confiured after refresh was completed,

Anyone has any idea how to include Office setup with the refresh task sequence & retain the configuration????

SCCM OSD WIndows 10 "BitLocker Disable" TS step not working correctly ?

$

I am facing a strange behaviour in SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 and my Windows 10 deployment.

First I have to mention that my Windows 7 OSD TS is working perfectly and basically the same as my Windows 10 OSD deployment. In fact it is a copy for most items.

We use the OSD TS in two ways:

  • running from USB, which will format disk and reimage system with BitLocker enabled and e new PIN code
  • from Software Center, which will redeploy image and keep BitLocker and keep the PIN code

The OSD from USB is working perfectly, but the one started from Software Center is not working correctly. After the OSD TS reboots from WinPE to running OS (Windows 10) it starts prompting me again for the POIN code. The "Disable BitLocker" step which is initiated at the beginning is not active anymore and when I press F8 and run the command managed-bde -status I see that the protection in ON again :-(

Why ? Does someone have the same behaviour ?

So when started from Software Center I see that the "Disable BitLocker" step will disable BitLocker and put protection OFF....then it reboots into WinPE and the protection is still OFF, then it boots back into installing OS (Windows 10) and protection is ON again. Then after the reboot it prompted for PIN :-(

My solution now is, which does work, is to include a second "Disable BitLocker" TS step with the command-line "manage-bde -protectors -disable %SystemDrive% -rc 0" just after the TS step "Setup Windows and ConfirMgr".

Strange......

Additional info: my client settings / Computer Agent / Suspend BitLocker PIN entry on restart is configured with NEVER. When changing this to ALWAYS the problem is not solved. First I thought this was causing my issue, but it seems not :-(

Hi all;

is there a way to managing clients naming policy as it is in WDS for SCCM?

Thanks

Automatic Client Upgrade breaks the task sequence during application installs

$

Hi everybody,

We recently had an issue where our task sequence would fail randomly during the application install phase. We have two Install Application Tasks, each containing 9 applications to install. The task sequence would fail randomly on the second set of installs.

The error message in the logs was that there was an existing application installing and then it would fail. The application event log in Event Viewer shows that the Configuration Manager Client was attempting to 'reconfigure' every time before the application that failed. We are on version 5.00.8239.1403 of the client. The 'Setup Wiindows and Configuration Manager' task is using the default 'Configuration Manager Client Package' which I have checked the source and the ccmsetup.exe file has version 5.00.8239.1403 so it is installing the correct version initially during the task sequence so I'm unsure what it is trying to reconfigure.

We experience the same behaviour on both a Surface Pro 3 and a Virtual Machine.

During the CU3 update I enabled the 'Automatic Client Upgrade' for the first time and this was the only thing I could think of that would try and push the client. I disabled this and it fixed the task sequence failures.

1) Has anybody experienced anything similar?

2) Should upgrade process even attempt if the build version is the same anyway?

3) Should this process even run inside the task sequence or is this a red herring?

While this problem has been resolved for me, I would like to highlight it in case others have issues.

Regards,

Michael

Windows 10 1511 deployment with SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3

$

hi,

I have read some forums but I still have doubts with the deployment of Windows 10 SCCM 1511.

We have SCCM R2 SP1 CU3 and we are currently deploying to pilot users some Windows 10 build 10240 devices.

Now we want to deploy the new version of Windows 10 but we can not upgrade SCCM 1511 until August.

From what I have understood with R2 SP1 CU3 we can not use Software Updates to download new updates for Windows 10 like 1511, is it right?

is there any problem to distributing Windows 10 1511 with OSD Task Sequence?

thanks and regards
