Task sequences not updating

I have 2 OSD Task Sequences which are not updating correctly after being renamed. The problem is manifesting itself in 2 ways:

  1. Jobs in the PXE menu are not reflecting the name changes. If trying to run either under of their old names, the SMSTS log says it cannot find content (a driver package) that is not part of the TS (I removed it after initial error referencing the package).
  2. In SW Center, the TSs show up with the correct names, but when attempting to run SW Center returns an error stating that it is out of date and no longer is there (press F5 to refresh). This repeats if tried again.

Any ideas?

SCCM 2012 Task Sequence Failure 0x8007000e

I have an SCCM 2012 RTM setup that was previously working fine. Now it will not Deploy any task sequences at all giving me the error 0x800700e. I have read up on this error and it seems to be that there is not enough disk space.

1 TB is not enough? We all got issues then. I know this isnt the problem. I read on technet that it may be because of the updates being too large. I have disabled the updates. Same problems. This happens with any deployment or capture using TS. Even the ones that have worked fine for ages.

The only change I have made is installing MDT and uninstalling it makes no difference at all.

Here is SMSTS.log:

8007000e OSD TS error after assigning Updates to Collections

This is to piggy back on the below topic, but I am looking for more of an explanation or information from Microsoft...

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/53f84517-0f84-438b-bf07-c828c5f2109b

I have posted this question in another topic, yet with no reply... WHY, when there is SOOO much data and memory is readily cheap now a days, is there a 10M limit on the task sequence... Or Why does it generate an out of memory error when downloading the policy of an old system when being redeployed.

I finally get my updates the way I would like them and start to deploy them to my environment only to find out that I have created TOO MANY software update groups causing the 8007000e the moment I select the OSD task sequence...

I have even removed the Apply Updates from the TS and because the machine we are trying to reimage exist in SCCM under the old machine name, it is also pulling any policies associated with the old machine.

So now in order to redeploy a machine, I have to go and remove it from SCCM so it is now an unknown system and does not parse and of the old policies...

How to PXE boot a vm using sccm 2012?

I have tried changing the Boot Order to PXE boot, but then also the PXE boot option is not available during the start up, it shows a screen which shows No boot media found. The VM is created using SCVMM on Hyper-V host. It has a network adapter and a blank hard disk.

TaskSequence stops randomly

We're deploying a previously caputered Win 7 64 bit image via TaskSequence. After the OS deploy some add'l software should be installed via the TS. Randomly one task running a vbscript via a batch file hangs.

When looking at the processes the process is gone (neither cmd.exe nor cscript.exe are running). SMSTS.log shows "Waiting for job status notification" forever. Any idea what SCCM is waiting for?

8dot3 filenames not created for Program Files and Program Files (x86)

Interesting issue we are realizing on Servers deployed from SCCM 2012. 8dot3names are not created for Program Files and Program Files (x86). they are created for other files/folders at the root of C and below Program Files and Program Files (x86). This is causing issues when programs are installed and the path is then created with 8dot3 filenames for program files and program files (x86)

Stand-alone media Install Applications is very slow

$

I have created stand-alone media for installation at some of our remote locations, but i've noticed that the "Install Applications" step we use to install various hardware-specific applications (NVIDIA driver etc.) takes forever when run from stand-alone media. The smsts.log indicates it's calculating hash values for every application in the step, whether or not the requirements are met, and does it again for each step. So, for example, with 8 applications in that step it calculates hash values 64 times. This means a task sequence that normally takes 30 minutes over the network is taking 3-4 hours from USB.

I have a case open, but wondering if anyone else has seen this. About to try breaking these 8 apps up into 8 separate "install application" steps to see if that speeds things up.

Applications in a task sequence sure are buggy. Even by SCCM standards!

SCCM 2012 - Problems with Windows PE Booting.

$

Hi,

I am looking for some general advice on SCCM 2012 OSD / MDT 2012 troubleshooting.

Basically I have PXE delivering the Boot Image to the client F12 and the image starts
to load.

Either it locks up and does not run my custom hta at the start or I keep getting
the circle of dots and it never goes any further. Or sometimes it will boot into
PE then reboot before I my HTA runs at the start.

What should happen is the HTA runs at the start and then I give the computer name
and then I can select the task sequence.

On other machines this works fine. And the task sequence begins to execute.

I have enabled F8 support and in both intances where it locks up or reboots
pressing F8 does not come up with a command prompt. (On the machines where it
does go that far I can).

So how can I troubleshoot it at this level? What would you recommend.

Oh btw when I mean a custom HTA I am launching it via a Custom Prestart command:

Random Driver Headache in OSD

$

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help with a random problem we are having with drivers during OSD to our HP 8300 PCs.

In the task sequence I have an auto apply drivers step and also a driver package for this specific model.

After OSD some machines work perfectly fine but about half have lots of driver errors (error code 19) - LAN, USB, Chipset - the machines are unusable apart from a PS2 keyboard.

When I look at the client and server logs for the OSD I cannot spot any errors or differences in the way the working and failed machines have run the TS. Bizarrely re-running the OSD TS can mean that machines that previously failed can complete fine while others also fail.

What I also find bizarre is that the driver packages reports as being successfully installed. The drivers files can be found in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. If you go into Device Manager there are lots of yellow exclamation marks on the apparent missing drivers but when you try to update them Windows says that the best driver is already installed.

I am a bit lost with this in terms of troubleshooting why this is happening.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Jay

SCCM 2012 OSD and Computer Association behaviour?

$

Hi,

We are having an isue with OSD Task sequences to machines
using SCCM 2012 OSD.

I have not worked out all the synarios yet but I wanted
to confirm a behaviour we think is happening.

1. I associate a MAC address with a computer and
add that computer to a collection.

2. I then advertise a task sequence via PXE to that computer.

3. The computer picks up the boot wim and then I can select
   the task sequence.

4. Now if I repeat the procedure then i look in the smsts.log
and I see an error saying there is no task sequences
   available for the computer.

What I am wondering is the issue here that using a computer
associate means it can only be done once? The computer becomes
known in the MAC database?

so the only way to fix it is to delete the record and re-associate
it?

or advertise it to all systems?

The other way I am thinking of doing this is to advertise it
to all systems and all unknown computers.

I am interested in getting peoples thoughts so I can understand the behavior.

Thanks,

Ward.

SCCM 2012 and MDT 2012 customizations ?

$

Hi,

I am looking for some general advise I am trying to transfer some MDT customations
(not created by me) from SCCM 2007 Task sequence using MDT to SCCM 2012 using MDT.
Both SCCM systems are using MDT 2012 Update 1. So here are some questions I have.

1. Startup Customizations.

I suspect there might be a script that prompts for the computer name.

So I assume this would be in the boot wim somewhere. Is there a way I
can look in the boot wim to work out where it is? How do I extract it etc?
And grap any other custom scripts etc.

2. Import the Boot image directly into 2012?

Now the other option I am wondering is if I can just import the boot wim
directly from 2007 into 2012, which might bring the customizations with it.

Would this work or would I run into grief becuase the two versions of SCCM
using different versions of PE?

So in general I am trying to work out the best way of approaching this.
Any other advice greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,

Ward

SCCM 2012 OSD - Disable / Demote internal driver?

$

Hi,

I have injected a particular driver into my Boot WIM which I wanting a machine to use.

Unfortunately it seems to be matching up with one of the internal drivers that are in there.

The internal driver that the matches up does not work relabily with the hardware.

So is there any way I can force PE to use a particular driver that I have told it to, instead of internal ones?

If not maybee disable the internal one.

Updated Application during Task Sequence fails to install

$

Hi all

Since a few months i have the annoying problem that new applications that superdense another application are not installed during the task sequence. But after the OS is ready, the application is starting to install it within the Software Center. So the application is correct configured.

Also the tick "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action without being deployed" is active.

The best is: When i create the Application again with the same settings it will work as expected also during the task sequence.

What could that be?

thanks

SCCM 2012 Bug Boot image always injects all drivers?

Hello

I noticed after some time that the updating boot image process is taking longer and longer.

So I went to the logs and startet once again a "Update Distribution Point" Process with some new imported drivers.

I saw then that it seems like every single driver which is already in the boot image gets "injected" again with DISM!

So no wonder it takes so long to wait for those 8 new drivers to finish updating, because it updates and processes all few hundred drivers AGAIN.

Is this really normal behaviour? I really hope that this is just a bug which will be fixed in CU3 or something...

Inject Driver causing Bluescreen in TS

Hi all

I have recently started working with SCCM 2012 and so far it looks not too bad but I have one frustrating problem:

I have a Lenovo T430 Notebook which I want to deploy with Task Sequence.

OK what I did is downloading those .cab Files from Lenovo which should contain all needed drivers for deployment (about 1GB package) but unfortunately there are 2 drivers missing. Bluetooth and Wireless WAN.

Now the problem is that I get a bluescreen as soon I import those drivers in SCCM. But if I manually install the driver in the device Manager I dont get any problems at all.

How am I supposed to install these drivers?

I already tested it through, as soon I remove those drivers in SCCM the Task Sequence works normal.

Thank you for your help or any advices

Newer Flash Drives for TS Media are installing as local disks and aren't listed to use.

We just bought 15 new Sandisk Cruzer flash drives for the purpose of imaging tablets. I've been successfully using other flash drives for this purpose. However, these are installing as a local disk instead of removable storage in Windows 7 and I cannot choose them to install to.

I found this Article about why they do... The question is if it's possible to force it to work?

Installing OS Language Pack in OSD TS fails "must be running in full os"

We are using SCCM 2012 SP1, MDT 2012 U1 and we are trying to install the application "Windows 7 French Language Pack" in our OSD TS but we get error "must be running in full os" in smsts.log. We are not using the MDT Offline task sequence. I verified that the task is after "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager Client" and tried adding a task "restart to The currently installed default OS" and it still fails with the same error. Other apps are installed correctly that are before this task ie Java, Flash, Office Language Pack, ...

If we create/distribute a seperate required TS with the same install it works???

thanks
