Restart in Windows PE - Change in Behavior

$

Hello,

I've run into a change in the behavior of my OSD task sequence and am unsure on how to correct it. We boot to a USB drive and connect to our DP. What happened in the past is that we would boot to the USB and after entering the password, we would be prompted for the task sequence to run. Upon selection of the task sequence, the boot wim would be downloaded to the computer hard drive and the user would be prompted to remove the USB drive and click on the button to restart the system. Now, however, the user is no longer prompted to remove the USB drive nor does the task sequence reboot the computer. The only change made was to add a NIC driver for a new model to the boot wim and then create the task sequence media, something that's been done many times before.

Has anyone run into this before?

no boot action. rejected. PXE log

Attempting to have two "unknown" collections. One for x86 and one for x64. We are unable to PXE boot our UEFI machines, due to the boot wim being x86. This is what we have done:

Removed all deployments from All Unknown Computers Collection.

Created two collections: All Unknown x64 Computers and All Unknown x86 Computers

For each collection the membership rules are using Direct Rule to use the appropriate resource (x64 Unknown Computer or x86 Unknown Computer)

The Task Sequences are using the appropriate boot image, depending on x86 or x64. The Task Sequences have also been deployed to the proper unknown collection.

Unknown Computer support is enabled, and the DP's are PXE-enabled.

Now when attempting a PXE Boot, it fails. In the SMSPXE log we receive messages:

no advertisements found, no boot action. rejected., and Not serviced.

If anyone could provide assistance, that would be great!

Using the script based windows 10 upgrade in place from MS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. Need to know how to customize it.

I am using the stock windows 10 upgrade in place on our SCCM server because we are not ready to upgrade to Current branch at this time. The system itself is using ADK 8 and has no MDT presence that I am aware of. I am under the assumption that I cannot use a customized wim that I tweaked for a bare metal deployment for this, although I would love to do so. Please advise as to what changes, if any I can do to this sequence. Our upgrade in place for win7 has far more options available that this windows 10.  I don't see a location to put in an answer file, although I was able to edit the command line to add in the activation code.

Local / Group policy not applying after Task Sequence completes - Win10

So the task sequence completes without error and the machine is joined to the domain.  Immediately following the completed TS we are left at the Beach screen (which we have actually disabled in local policy) and we can logon with a domain user account. Once we login and reach the desktop I can immediately see Group and Local Policy hasn't applied as the various policy customizations are not present.  If we manually run gpupdate /force we receive the error "GroupPolicy (Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy)" and Event ID 1058: "The processing of Group Policy failed. "  We are also unable to access the SYSVOL and NETLOGON DFS shares.

Currently, in testing, it takes two manual reboots after the TS has completed in order for local and group policy to be fully applied.  Not ideal!  We are using Windows 10 1511 LTSB.  OSD is via SCCM 1602.  Eventually once the reboots have taken place we are able to access the SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares and everything is rosey.

Please help, I have been tearing my hair out over this!  I thought it might be related to UNC Hardening but I've tried adding the reg keys in but it makes no difference.  This is the thread I'm referring to: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6a20e3f6-728a-4aa9-831a-6133f446ea08/gpos-do-not-apply-on-windows-10-enterprise-x64?forum=winserverGP

When I try to create a drivers package I receive the error "The specified folder doesn't exist or SMS Provider computer has no read, write or delete subfolders and files permissions to it." I have added the system account to the share permissions with Full Control and that didn't resolve it.  I also added the SCCM server account into the share permissions with FC. Still no go.  I am running SCCM 2012 SP1 with a separate dedicated SQL server. Both servers are running Server 2008 R2.  Thanks in advance.

HP Zbook Studio G3 BSOD's upon first reboot when OS and drivers have been deployed

$

I am using SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy an image Windows 7 Ent SP1 x64 to this system. I use this same image for all other HP devises with no issues. I downloaded and expanded the driver package SP73082 and installed those drivers on SCCM like I have for all other devices. Upon the completion of installing the OS and drivers and at the first reboot the system will BSOD and restart, at which point I attempt to stop the page from changing with no luck, so am unable to capture the error code that is being generated. I validated that the drivers were the correct ones, the number of files and folders are the same. I even changed the amount of RAM to see if that was the issue to no avail.

Troubleshooting steps:

I have validated that the drivers are the correct ones for this model and OS.
I have verified that the drivers are setup correctly within SCCM 2012 and are being pushed out to the system during the installation process.
There is nothing that shows this system is failing to load any of the drivers or that it is having an issue with the OS.
The system once the initial reboot happens continues to BSOD. Even attempting to load in safe mode does not resolve. Loads up to disk.sys and fails.

I used this image today to image a HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G2 with no issues so I know the image is working.

I also verified that the drivers when uncompressed match what was imported into SCCM to deploy to this system.

Any assistance with understanding what could be causing this would be great.

Having issues with Chrome/Firefox favorites restore with USMT 5

I've been having some problems getting Chrome bookmarks and Firefox to restore properly with USMT 5 during OSD. All other data settings and files are restoring properly but I can't seem to get Chrome / Firefox bookmarks to restore after OSD.

Does anyone have some tips on how to do this? I've already done quite a bit of searching but can't seem to find clear info on this.

Any helpful info would be appreciated.

Thanks

SCCM Windows 10 - SCCM client doesnt get installed

I wasn’t sure if anyone can help with the Windows 10 OS deployment.

The task sequence failed at the point where SCCM tries to install the client software on the machine.

at the moment, for all windows 10 machines, I need to use a cmd line to skip the prerequisite to install the SCCM client, see below:

\\yau-ds1-vmg01\SCCM_Installation\SMSSETUP\CLIENT\CCMSetup.exe /skipprereq:windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe;Silverlight.exe;dotnetfx40_client_x86_x64.exe /mp:yau-ds1-vmg01.yancoal.com.au SMSSITECODE=DS1

I've noticed that SCCM was checking for the same prereq in the task sequence, but I was unable to put a command line in the actual TS.

Do we need to update the version of the client?

Windows 10 - Automatic startup repair

$

Hi!

I have recently gotten into a problem where i try to install windows 10 64-bit on a computer. This fails somewhere. I have not monitored where it stops because this happens only when running the task sequence on a distribution point wich i dont have access to on a daily basis.

I checked the report in configmgr for History of a TS deployment. And the last running step is Setup Windows and Configmgr. And also when checking the computert directory through cmd I cant find any trace of ccm, no folder, no logs, no anything really.

I am thinking that this got to have something to do with the DP. As the same task sequence works from other DP's on the same computer model.

Not much to go on here, but i was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction as you have done so many times before!

I also have another problem with our windows 10 deployment. I think this problem only occurs on one of our models though. It looks like the computer goes into som kind of screensaver, but i am unable to wake it. I have tried keyboard, touchpad and external keyboard and mouse. If i let it be for some time, the task sequence does not get done. Usually this happens right after or underway in our Install Updates step.

Edit: I guess my second problem here is related to one of the updates, but i cant find wich..

Task sequence fails to complete. "Falied to configure OSD setup hook." and other errors.

I've added an updated WIM to my base image task sequence and now the task sequence fails to complete. I've searched the internet far and wide and reviewed my smsts.log trying to figure out why it isn't completing.  I can find failures in the log but I can't trace it back to something I understand how to fix. I'm assuming that its something in the updated WIM that is causing the problem because its the only thing that I've "knowingly" changed in the task sequence.

I'm going to include some of the smsts.log file errors In hopes that someone can point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

I apologize in advance if there is a better way to do this.

Answer File has lead to Windows Start Button & Cortana No Response

Hi Tech Gurus,

I've developed an answer file for our Windows 10 test OSD, now once the task sequence finishes, I can not use the windows start button and Cortana at all, it will display as they are, but when you click on them they just do not respond at all.  Here is the Answer file i created.

I've tried to delete my account, logged in with another account, safe mode, non of these have worked.

If I reimage the machine without using answer file, Start button and Cortana will be fine.

Thanks,

Multicast error 0x80091007

$

Hi,

Some OS images deploy normally with multicast and others crash.

They crash at the step Opening Multicast session then I get the error 0x80091007.

In the SMSTS.log on the client, I have the error : Failed to run the action: Apply Operating System.
The hash value is not correct. (Error: 80091007; Source: Windows)

On the server, there is no error in the mscmgr.log, MCSIsapi.log and mcsMSI.log

This is what I already tried :

  • Delete the image from the console and the source file. Imported them again and distribute the OS image on the DP
  • Redistribute the OS image on the DP
  • I always check Allow this package to be transferred via multicastand Transfert this package only via multicast before distributing the image to the DP for the first time

Here's the config of the server :

  • Windows Server 2012R2
  • SCCM 2012 R2 1606

We have almost 100 PC to deploy in computer labs in the university, so deploy in unicast is not really an option for us.

Hi,

We are having an issue with getting a Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 x64 build working using SCCM OSD.

The capture completed succesfully but when we try and build, it fails on a local gather step.

Command line cscript.exe "X:\_SMSTaskSequence\WDPackage\Scripts\ZTIGather.wsf" returned 2147942402. The operating system reported error 2147942402: The system cannot find the file specified.

I hit F8 and had a look in the location specified on the X: and the file Microsoft.BDD.Utility.dll is present so not sure why its getting a file not found error?

If I switch the image in the task sequence back to the 1511 build then the gather step runs flawlessly and the TS completes.

Both the 1511 and 1607 images were captured using exactly the same capture TS and its a very lean image, no additional software or components being added, just a vanilla Windows 10 image.

We are running SCCM 1606, ADK 10 and MDT 2013 Update 2.

Anyone seen this before?

Stand-alone media

It states in the Microsoft documentation:

The Capture Windows Settings task sequence action can be run in either Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) or a standard operating system.

Deploying an image using a stand-alone bootable USB stick with the second step of the task sequence set to 'Capture windows settings

/ Migrate computer name' ( right after 'Restart in Windows PE' ) does not result in the computer getting it's old name after imaging is complete.

It get's the default 'MININT.......' name.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi

I am trying to add new boot images for Windows 10 in my SCCM 12 r2 environment. I add the path of the wim file but there is nothing to select in the drop down on the boot image. I have tried several boot files including my old wims for Windows 7.

Thanks for your help.

Apply Image error - Bcdboot failed!

Hi @ all,

first some information about the environment. We use:

SCCM 2012 Sp1 CU2, SQL 2008 R2

I try to deploy a windows 7 machine (desktop) in a branch office. the necessary files will be downloaded from a DP based on windows 7!!

When I boot from an USB stick (64-bit, bootable only, no standalone media) and start a Task Sequence, after downloading the os-image, during the "apply-step" I get the following error.

The smsts.log says:

System partition not set ApplyOperatingSystem 10.02.2014 18:51:39 1596 (0x063C)
Unable to find the partition that contains the OS boot loaders. Please ensure the hard disks have been properly partitioned
Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows) ApplyOperatingSystem 10.02.2014 18:51:39 1596 (0x063C)

Bcdboot failed! bcdboot.exe C:\Windows /l de-DE failed (15299)
stdout:
Failure when attempting to copy boot files.
stderr:

Installation of image 1 in package A120038D failed to complete..
Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows)

In the TS the hard disk will be cleaned and formatted. I also cleaned the hard disk manually before starting the TS > same error.

Another Task Sequqnce (only another os-image-wim file) for laptop in the same branch office, same room, same subnet and same switch will be deployed successfully.

To try the deployment via PXE it´s very difficult, because the deployment will be started over very slow WAN network connection.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance!

Tom

RE:- Offline Servicing a Window 7 Enterprise Wim

Quick question this has being doing my little mind in for some time.

Ok SCCM CB I have a windows 7 image which I want to Offline Service and when I do my task sequence which has some dism servicing in them for example to apply language packs are failing post servicing due to:-

Cannot finalize session because an exclusive session is pending. [HRESULT = 0x800f082f - CBS_E_EXCLUSIVE_WOULD_MERGE]

So the only fix I have is to rollback the serviced wim to prior to the servicing or to manually remove "Pending" updates.

Surely this has been thought about and is there a mechanism only to allow "offline" ready patches to be applied and to skip anything which locks CBS servicing.????

MP Issue / Cannot Run OSD At Secondary Site Locations

Good Afternoon Guys -

We've got an SCCM environment which runs 2012 R2 SP1 CU3 and consists of a primary site server and two offsite secondary servers.  We've been successfully running OSD for a few months now, but after recent issues with the database which should now be resolved, users at the secondary site locations cannot use OSD.

When booting to their USB boot media to select the Task Sequence, it soon fails showing the below in smsts:

Invalid MP cert info; no signature

CCM::SMSMessaging::CLibSMSMPLocation::RequestMPLocation failed; 0x80004005

MPLocation.RequestMPLocation (szTrustedRootKey, sIPSubnets.c_str(), sIPAddresses.c_str(), httpS, http), HRESULT=80004005 (e:\nts_sccm_release\sms\framework\osdmessaging\libsmsmessaging.cpp,9739)

CCM::SMSMessaging::GetMPLocations failed; 0x80004005

Failed to query http://(thefqdnofprimaryserver for MP location

MpCnt > 0, HRESULT=80004005 (e:\qfe\nts\sms\client\tasksequence\tsmbootstrap\tsmbootstraputil.cpp,2084)

QueryMPLocator: no valid MP locations are received

I looked through logs as well as the component status in the console which didn't show anything abnormal yet - at least which would cause this potential issue - and nothing bad about the management point.  Speaking of, I know Secondary sites are supposed to have Management Points, but when making site-based boot media, why is only the primary listed?  It's always been this way.

I also went to http://server/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist andhttp://server/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert for the primary plus both secondaries and got what seemed to be healthy responses.  The mplist showed the primary plus both secondaries and the cert showed the long hash it is supposed to.

I also reviewed the mpcontrol.log files amongst others on all 3 servers which look clean as can be.  Also got one of the IPs from a system being imaged and a boundary exists plus is assigned.  Strange

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

OSD Task Sequence Install application action failed Error Code 0x87d00267

One of the applications has started failing in my task sequence, giving the above error, plus a few others, all with the same hex value:

Policy Evaluation failed, hr=0x87d00267InstallApplication02/11/2016 12:12:094960 (0x1360)
Install application action failed: 'Malwarebytes Managed Client'. Error Code 0x87d00267InstallApplication02/11/2016 12:12:094960 (0x1360)

Download failed (Error: 87D00267; Source: CCM) TSManager02/11/2016 12:12:092808 (0x0AF8)

I've found various references to this going back several years, and wonder if there's a definitive solution to it?

The OS is Windows 10 LTSB 2016

The application in question does install successfully via Software Center once the failed TS has ended.

I have the following variables set in the "Configure Download Settings step at the very top of the task sequence:
SMSTSDownloadRetryCount = "5"
SMSTSDownloadRetryDelay = "15"
SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout = "300"

I've seen people saying "look in these other log files" but I don't know what's normal and what's a genuine problem in them. There's nothing logged within at least 30 secs of the timestamps of the errors above in any case.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :-)
