Two different boot images?

$

Hi All - We currently have Windows 10 1803 as our boot imaging for PXE boot.  Could we have another one, 1809 Windows 10 boot image?  We would like to selectively image some machines with one version or the other.  I know in a task sequence, you can pick the WIM file you want to load the task sequence with, but not sure if we load in 1809 as a boot WIM file, will it use that as the default and then we can't image systems with 1803?

Thanks!

PXE for UEFI and Legacy on 2012 R2 when IP Helper is already in use for DHCP.

Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me get this resolved.  My aim is to be able to deploy to BIOS and UEFI devices using SCCM 2012 R2 OSD on 2012 R2 Std.

Currently my clients are on 10.0.0.1/24 - VLAN100

My DHCP server is on 10.1.0.0/24 - VLAN101

My PXE server is on 10.2.0.0/24 - VLAN102

IP Helper is configured on the switch to allow the DHCP requests from VLAN100 to hit the DHCP server on VLAN101

In my DHCP scope I have option 66 (Boot Server Host Name) and 67 (Bootfile Name) configured -

66 - PXESERVER.FQDN

67 - SMSboot\x86\wdsnbp.com

Everywhere I've seen suggests removing the two options and implementing IP Helper, however as I already have this configured to jump from VLAN100 to VLAN101 I dont see how I can configure it again.

Please can someone help me get Legacy BIOS and UEFI being deployed via PXE?

Thanks,

Peter

What I've checked;

- PXE support in boot image: OK

- PXE Support in DP properties: OK

It is configured with IP Helpers to DHCP and the DP. Trying to PXE a physical machine. All information in the above log is correct (MAC, ...).

Any tips/things I should check/do?

Kind regards,

Sander.

Unable to Execute Scripts from TS Package

Hey guys,

I have a task sequence that is attempting to copy the OSD-PostInstall script to C:\Drivers (NO drivers are being downloaded, its just the name we are using because we had drivers in the TS at one point) using command line:

Text
XCOPY.EXE ".\*.*" "C:Drivers" /HERCIY

The option for "Package" is checked and contains the referenced OSD-PostInstall script.

However, the TS fails with a Install Software failed to run command line

Followed by Failed to run the action: Copy OSD-PostInstallScript. No application is associated with the specified file for this operation.

Key note: this is removable media.  The task sequence succeeds with a network boot but that is not an option where this image will be going.

After this failure, I can log into the OS, navigate to the package path, and execute the command line argument to copy the script to C:Drivers.

The TS will create the C:\Drivers folder but will not throw the package contents (OSD-PostInstall script) in there.

Isn't it supposed to run this from the _SMSTS folder?  It's almost like the packages are being cleared from the cache before they can run.

Also,  I do have one package running successfully.  It runs the command:

cmd.exe /c unattendedInstall.bat

This is able to execute from the E:\SMS\PKG\PackageName

Drive E: is the removable media drive containing the source files.

Laptop will PXE boot but will not load boot file

Hello all,

So I've found myself in a bit of a pickle here. I work at a college and summer is fast approaching, which means I am going to be a very busy desktop support tech! There's just one problem... My task sequence is not being seen after it's been deployed. I start up the laptop, get it into PXE Boot, it receives an IP address, sees the DHCP, receives the PXE boot file... but then it drops out and runs the PXE abort file. This is maddening as I have spent two days trying to get this thing to work but nothing seems to help. I have the network and storage drivers injected into the boot image, I have the laptop in the correct deployment group, I have the boot image set for PXE booting and I've gotten this task sequence to work on multiple laptops of identical make/model. The only thing I can think of is that it may have something to do with the fact that this laptop was previously used by someone else and so it was in SCCM under a different name, but had the same MAC address, so maybe between importing it again, realizing my mistake and taking out the duplicates and everything, there may have been a problem? Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing here, if you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance!!

Task Sequence stops running never installs applications

I'm hopeful someone can help me with this. I have a TS running laying down Windows 10.

It formats, the computer, partitions the drive, lays down the OS, joins domain, installs drivers, drops down the sccm client and then then when the last step of the TS is to deploy applications, the smsts log stops ...the applications never installs in fact I'm pretty certain after the "Setups Windows and Configuration Manager" nothing else runs, just boots into OS.

I'm a relatively noob with SCCM, thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction. My task sequence looks like this...

SCCM log posted...as you can see at the bottom...it just stops and doesn't execute the Install Application part of the task sequence. I've had to truncate the log down...

Imaged machine in domain but then not joined at completion

Hi,

When I image a Windows 10 machine, it joins the domain, but at the end of the imaging process it is no longer in the domain. The computer object does exist in the domain, however.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am new to Config Manager - I am going to start looking though the logs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hello

I need to upgrade workstations from Windows 10 1703 to Windows 10 1809.

But i am running into problems with Microsoft-Windows-TestRoot-and-FlightSigning-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.15063.0

It's basicly this problem : https://borncity.com/win/2017/04/26/windows-10-v1703-fix-for-dism-error-0x800f081f/

And also the sugested solution works, but i can not do this several hundred time by hand.

Scripting this solution proves to be a chalange because of the acces rights on these registry keys.

Is there a automated solution to this issue?

PXE Boot using Task Sequence Media to hook into SCCM server is failing - The screen goes blue says getting network connections and then reboots

I do have network connection and IP (I am using x64 Boot Image and have injected the x64 network card drivers that I think I needed)

Here is the log file I got off the laptop I am trying to build

Hi,

i'm running a test lab with SCCM 2012. I have only one Site Server which is also the Distribution Point and ist doing PXE. I'm booting up a virtual machine, it's loading the WinPE Image and then i can choose my Task Sequence. After this i click Next and the Process immediately Fails with the following error message :

Failed to run Task sequence
The task sequence cannot be run because the program files for HQ100001 cannot be located on a distribution point.
For more Information, contact your System Administrator or Helpdesk Operator.

HQ100001 is the ID for my Configuration Manager Client Package.

What i checked is:

  • Content Status Shows that HQ100001 is 100% distributed to the DP.
  • Also all other ressources i am using for this Task Sequence (OS, Boot Image etc.) is 100% distributed to the DP.
  • My Network Access Account is a Domain Account which is also local Administrator on the SCCM Server.
  • Site and Component Status is all green and showing as OK.

Do you guys have any idea what the Problem could be?
Which log files would you start to take a look at?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Customsettings.ini with MDT and SCCM Integration

I have MDT 2013 integrated with sccm 2012 (1606), I have been able to Deploy the OS fine.

I am not able to figure out, which customsettings.ini file gets used, in this process.

I did change few settings in   customsettings.ini in MDT share  gets created after MDT integration, but that seems to be not getting used.

I looked in to the my SCCM package of boot image , getting copied during deployment in WinPE mode for scripts (for ztigather etc) and check the customsettings.ini there, it is present, but not in readable format (attached ).

I want to control the deployment rules via customsettings.ini , with sccm and MDT integration, but cant figure out, please help.

SCCM Task Sequence Failed Error Code 0x80070002

I wish to help everyone here because i encountered the same error and since 3 day i was researching and not one person had told and i figured out myself.

Firstly i am using SCCM Current Branch version 5.00.8790.1000 (Last updated 17th April, 2019)

1. Add Network Access Account
ConfigMgr Console > Site > Configure Site Components > Software Distribution > Network Account Access > domain-name\username

2. Permissions for NAA (very hard to find this step any where on internet)
Go to DP > Local Group Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignments > Access This Computer From Network > Add your NAA user

3. Access on the Software Library (This step is not explained anywhere on the internet, had to find myself) I am using SCCM
ConfigMgr Console > Software Library > Operating Systems > Right Click on the Image and choose “Manage Access Accounts” > Add your NAA > Permissions to Read is fine > Again Right Click > Properties > Content > Redistribute

– Do the above step for Driver also –

Deploy. Let me know how it goes

SQL/WMI query to find if a known/unknown machine has tried PXE booted ?

$

Hi Champs,

We look for ways to delete the resource from SCCM, if a known machine has tried Imaging in last 30 mins. This way we wanted to limit the OS Imaging to UNKNOWN collection only, then allow KNOWN machines to be Iamged by deleting them from SCCM as they become UNKNOWN

Now, do you suggest any SQL, WMI queries that fetches if a system PXE booted across all my PXE DPS is KNOWN or UNKNOWN ? I see this info comes from SMSPXE.log file that means it is contacting primary somewhere to get checked, so having the same SQL table /WMI class to automate futher from primary site itself

SMSPXE.log: "8C:18:43:C8:D3:22, 2E451180-030F-11E9-A1BA-605D7F5E0E00: device is in the database"

Thanks,

Vasu

Unable to create driver package - "specified folder doesn't exist or sms provider computer has no read, write or delete subfolders and files permissions to it".

When I try to create a drivers package I receive the error "The specified folder doesn't exist or SMS Provider computer has no read, write or delete subfolders and files permissions to it." I have added the system account to the share permissions with Full Control and that didn't resolve it.  I also added the SCCM server account into the share permissions with FC. Still no go.  I am running SCCM 2012 SP1 with a separate dedicated SQL server. Both servers are running Server 2008 R2.  Thanks in advance.

How To Re-Run A Required Deployment

$

Hi Everyone

Please can you help me? I am using SCCM Current Branch.

I created an Operating System Upgrade Package to updated to Windows 10 Ent Build 1809

I created a OS upgrade Task Sequence

I created a Device Collection

I deployed the TS to the device collection and set it to "Required"

This works but if there is, say a comms issues, the deployment to the device in the device collection fails. I cannot find any way of re-running the TS deployment to the device that failed.

I have tried removing the failed device from the device collection and re-adding it but it doesn't work. On the target device, in software center, it shows as failed but you can't click anything to re-run it.

The only way I can get it going again, is to create and new device collection, deploy the package to the new collection and then re-add the failed device into the new collection.

Is there a way of re-running the TS again without re-creating the device collection and re-deploying.

I am still very new to Configuration Manager by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I need assistance figuring out what this error means:

Steps followed are:

  1. Open ‘Configuration Manager’
  2. Open ‘Software Library’
  3. Expand ‘Operating Systems’
  4. Right-click ‘Task Sequences’
  5. Click ‘Create Task Sequence Media’
  6. Select ‘Capture Media’ for the media type, click ‘Next’
  7. With ‘CD/DVD’ selected, click ‘Browse’
  8. Browse to the location where you want the ISO file saved
  9. I browsed to ‘\\server\sccm$\Capture\’
  10. Name it ‘Win10Capture’, but can be any name, click ‘Save
  11. Click ‘Next’
  12. Click ‘Browse’ and select ‘Boot image PR100034’, click ‘OK’
  13. Click ‘Browse’ next to Distribution Point
  14. Wait for ‘distsite.COM’ to appear, click on it then click ‘OK’
  15. Click ‘Next’
  16. Click ‘Next’
  17. It should begin creating ISO file

Here is the entry in the CreateTSMedia.log:
