Apply OS fails due to 'insufficient resources' -- on machines with 16GB RAM and 500GB disks

I'm getting an error during the 'Apply Operating System' step of an OSD task sequence.

This same build sequence has been working without error up until this point. It fails only with a certain model of machine, the LENOVO M93P, with 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD.

The error we get is:

Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. (Error: 800705AA; Source: Windows)

There is obviously enough RAM and disk available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Best way to deploy OS's without DHCP

Hello,

Our Server (500 Servers) and Desktop environment (1300 desktops) use static IP addressing. We've recently installed SCCM 2012 SP1 so I'm wondering what how I can best utilize this program to deploy operating systems. The videos I've found on youtube and technet mainly describing deploying OS's when the environment utilizes a DHCP server which we do not use. Up until this point the desktop OS's were installed using GHOST and I manually installed the server OS's. Please advise what the best (close to zero touch) installation method would be. The man who just retired who took care of all of the server\desktop updates used WSUS\Group policy to deploy the latest patches. My manager would like to get away from that and use SCCM to start patching the whole environment. If possible, could the latest patches be applied to the OS after it was installed if a DHCP server is not used? Thanks for any and all comments.

Install Applicaiton Task only allows max of 9 applications?

When creating an OSD Image deployment task I have noticed that you can only install a maximum of 9 applications.  When we select more than 9 applications in the task sequence we get the red exclamation mark.  Why is it limited to only 9 applications?  This is will be for a stand alone task sequence.

PKI Trust for Software Center Initiated Task Sequences

I'm using SCCM 2012 R2 with an enterprise PKI.  For PXE and Boot Disc initiated installs, we specify a certificate to use and the installation works great.  However, when we attempt to run a task sequence to install an OS from Software Center, we get a bunch of SSL errors.  My question is, how do you specify a certificate for this case?  Is it possible to edit the boot.wim to install a certificate?

Here's an example of the error:

SCCM 2012 R2 - Capture Media - sysprep remains executing

Hi,

I am using SCCM 2012 R2.

I have created the capture media using x86 boot image. The PC to be captured is Windows7x86PRO Spanish.

The problem is that sysprep remains executing (aprox 1 hour before I manually shutdown), and never restarts the PC for image capture.

The errors at smsts.log are:

I Have used the same CD to capture another PC (different manufacturer, same Windows and software) and the sysprep was OK and the image capture was OK.

Please your help.

Thanks in advance!

Having an issue where everything format fine, but when the TS reboots to boot into the OS the second drive becomes offline.  This is a task sequence that I use for other machines of the same model (different revision) PET310.  The Ts is format the drive properly as if I activate it, it will have the right label and get a drive letter.  Failing to figure out why, is there anyway to turn the drive back on via a script?

Export Task Sequence Wizard won't advance past 'Validating specified task sequences'

We are attempting to export a task sequence using the Export Task Sequence Wizard in the SCCM 2012 SP1 console. The wizard starts fine, I submit the file name, desslect the 'Export all task sequence dependencies', and click Next. At the 'Review Related Objects step, 'Validating specified task sequences' shows and I have an hourglass whenever I hover over it. The wizard will sit at this step for over an hour without completing. Attempting to click Next or Summary has no effect.

This is happening on consoles on several different desktops, and on the console installed on our site server. I enabled verbose logging on my desktop and tried the same operation. The log shows this entry and then sits:

[1, PID:56][12/12/2013 13:50:52] :Time in InitializePageControl() for page "Review Related Objects" on Wizard "Export Task Sequence Wizard": 00:00:00

Here's a screenshot of where we get stuck:

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Do you have any ideas? I've searched online but only found one post on another website from October with no resolution.

It appears to be a problem with the size of the task sequence. Smaller task sequences export as expected, and quickly. The OSD task sequences we're trying to export now are quite large and include several driver packages, software packages and steps. I'd understand if it just took a long time, but this is taking forever and never seems to complete.

Right now, I'm letting it run through the console on our site server for the rest of the day. I'm also trying to use the following PowerShell command on my desktop, and that's been running for about half an hour now with no result yet.

Export-CMTaskSequence -ExportFilePath c:\TaskSequence.zip -Id XXXXXXXX

SCCM 2012 SP1 cannot install SUP and syncrhonize.

I tried to install the SUP on the SCCM 2012 SP1 server, and got this error message from Component Status

SMS_WSUS_SYNC_MANAGER

-----------------

WSUS Syncrhonization failed.

Message: WSUS update source not found on site P01. Please refer to WCM.log for configuration error details

-----------------

Then I opened the WCM.log and saw 2 messages in red.

1. Remote configuration failed on WSUS Server

2. Setting new configuration state to 3 (WSUS_CONFIG_FAILED)

P.S

I installed WSUS 3.0 SP2 and also applied the KB272011-x64

I noticed when I ran the Windows Server Update Services console, under Update Services is nothing at all. Tried Action => Connect to Server and was not successful even with the correct server name and port#

Can anyone please help me.

ONE Model Won't Join Domain

I have a single image for all of our computer deployments and only one model is giving me a hard time.  All of the others will join the domain without an issue but the HP 6560b just wont.  I downloaded the latest nic drivers and made sure they were included but it still wont join.

I am using an MDT task sequence and every single time the computer boots up and has the info in the bottom left, it has an ip address so it really appears as though it always has a network connection.

Here is a shot of the log from the setupact.log file.  Let me know what others to provide you.

Run an sql script with SQLCMD.exe as a task while deploying a Windows 7 computer

Hi,

I've been trying deploying and configure SQL Express 2008 r2.
SQL installs just fine using a ConfigurationFile.ini.

I then want to create an SQL account using an SQL script.
To run the script, I use SQLCMD.exe.

I used it within a batch file.
The batch file is called from a package/Program.

The batch file as the following command in it :
start /wait sqlcmd.exe -S localhost -U <username> -P <password> -i %~dp0adduser.sql -b

The batch file is working correctly if ran manually.
It also work when advertised to run with users rights while logon.

It doesn't work when set to run with admin rights and whether or not a user logon.
It also doesn't work when set to run within a Task Sequence.

I beleive it is related to running with System instead of a user.

The end goal is to make it work within a task sequence as other applications( installed after) requires SQL with an SQL account.

I've tried many thing without success
- Run command line calling the batch, using the package as source and run as a user
- Run command with the direct command (SQLCMD.exe...) with or without run as a user

What happen is the command line hang instead of taking a second to run

Anyone tried something like this ?

Any suggestion is good :)

Thanks a lot

I can´t rescan for software updates with wmic command

Hi guys,

I read in all the sites that to install all updates  I need to run a command, but when I try to scan for software updates both a OSD task as from a command line on a machine with installed client gives me an error: Modifier Verb is invalid. Anyone know why? Is there any requirement to launch this command?

SCCM 2012 R2 - Build and Capture Unable to install Programs or Patch

$

This is my first time attempting a Build and Capture after upgrading to SCCM 2012 R2. The machine is a VM that is not joined to the domain. All communication we are doing is HTTP based so there are not any PKI issues that would be impacting us.

If I deploy a Windows 8.1 x64 build off OEM media start to finish and join the domain everything works for that machine. Applications installed and so do patches. However, when try to run a Build and Capture sequence on a non-domain joined VM machine this just don't appear to be working at all.

I've tried many different install strings. This is what I'm currently trying on teh build and capture workstation vm: DNSSUFFIX=NAOXY.COM FSP=ODTWCMSB.NAOXY.COM SMSMP=ODTWCMSB.NAOXY.COM CCMHTTPSPORT=50001 CCMHTTPPORT=50000

The domain joined client installs without issue with the following: DNSSUFFIX=NAOXY.COM SMSMP=ODTWCMSB.NAOXY.COM CCMHTTPSPORT=50001 CCMHTTPPORT=50000 PATCH="C:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\GAS000EF\x64\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"

Pre-Provision BitLocker sets C: on System Reserved Partition

$

We receive all new laptops with no BIOS config and set all options through WMI scripts.

This is fine, except that for pre-provisioning Bitlocker, we must have the TPM enabled first, before we run the pre-provisioning step.

This requires that we run the WMI scripts, and then reboot back into WinPE to continue that portion of the task sequence.

With Windows 7, after rebooting back into WinPE, at the pre-provisioning stage, the System Reserved Partition is being set with the C: drive letter and therefore the OS is being installed onto the D: drive which must not happen for many reasons as well as causing the TS to fail.

Is there some way that I can stop this annoying strange behaviour?

Please don't ask me to change the OSDPreserveDriveLetter variable to true or false, as it makes no difference to this issue.

Extra info:

The WIM being used it a captured WIM, which was in a task sequence with the OSDPreserveDriveLetter variable set to false, therefore.......

....All laptops which DO NOT use this extra reboot into WinPE step, are installing to the C drive no problem.  Also, when we used SCCM 2007, this identical process working fine, it has only appeared with SCCM 2012.

Red "X' appears at the wireless icon even though wireless adapter is on.

You know whenever you off the wireless connection adapter on your computer, usually a switch button at the front of your laptop? Then your wireless icon would have this red "x" thing and says no connection available or something like that, and your bluetooth would be off too. But whn you turn it on there will be a yellow star thing at your wireless icon if you are not connected.

Problem is, even when my connection adapter is on, which means my bluetooth works perfectly fine, there will be a red "x" on my wireless icon. It frustrates me. I can't connect to any wireless at all as it will just say no connections available when there should be at least five working wireless around.

Sometimes, I on my laptop and the wireless works perfectly fine. Then while I'm connected, after about an hour it would automatcially say limited access. Then I disconnect and try to reconnect. it would straight away tell me it can't connect. You know usually if you can't connect the computer will try a few seconds before telling you it can't connect? but it doesn't I click connect and straigh away I get this notif that I can't connect. The computer doesn't even try to connect. then after that it will have the red cross things and i need to restart my computer then it works fine again but after about an hour it happens again.

This has happened a lot of times and I'm really getting very angry as other people using the same wireless doesn't have this problem. Please help me

System account cannot see the ccm_program class within client WMI

$

We are not using OSD as such to deploy our images - we plan to change this in the coming months but for now we don't.

The reason is our image is a standalone Image that is created in MDT and the MDT task sequence builds the image and we then run a number of scripts to install the SCCM client and to launch Progress Windows to let users etc know how the build is progressing. These progress windows have scripts running in the background to check on the status of software updates, Application and Packages - however the part of the script that checks for programs (it checks the ccm_program class in the ccm\clientsdk Namespace) always returns 0 Programs even though I can see a number of programs listed in there when I check manually.

I've justed figured out that its because the system context doesn't see this class as populated - it can see apps and updates...

Anyone else see this before? I realise most will be using OSD and would not use scripts like we do to determine when the machine has received all the requried patches and apps.
