task sequence local administrator password overridden by UDI wizard

Hi,

I was under the impression that the password set in the postinstall - Apply Windows settings step of an MDT 13 OSD TS would override that which was keyed in during the UDI wizard. It seemes it's vice versa.

I want to skip entering an administrator password in the OSD TS and just use the fixed PWD i specified in the Apply Windows settings step of the TS.

How exactly can i do this? Just removing the "administrator password" page from the UDI wizard i imagine would break the UDI wizard/give an error?

PC rebuilds successfully but is still bitlockered (although bitlocker suspended)

Want to "unbitlocker" operating system drive during pc refresh.  When rebuilding a bitlockered pc the task sequence should be disabling bitlocker and leaving the newly built drive as unencrypted.  This worked fine for a similar task sequence using SCCM 2007.  With the 2012 task sequence the pc builds ok but the drive is still encrypted with bitlocker just suspended.

Any ideas??  Let me know any log files I should post.

Thanks.

OSD with brand new HD without formating

Hi, folks!

when i do an OSD on computers with a previous formatted hd (eg over an OEM Windows installed), runs nice. But, in machines that i need change a damaged hd for a brand new one, the OSD fails. But, when i run a quick format before use it and try again, runs nice too. So, how can i solve it? is there any parameter in 'format and partition disk' step or any workaround to this situation?

Thank you all!

Workgroup client application issues during OSD/ No site assigned, unknown location

Testing SCCM 2012 operating system deployment with MDT 2013 integration.

I have a build and capture sequence setup and all is good apart from Application installs, they fail.

I've read through the other similar threads but nothing applied works in my scenario.

The same apps deploy to existing CM clients successfully.

Packages can be deployed successfully during the task sequence.

I've tried using the subnet the client uses as a boundary. I've tried an IP range, no luck.

I've added DNSSUFFIX SMSMP FSP in the setup windows and configmgr step

I've set the DP to allow anonymous access.

The MP dns srv record is present in DNS.

In the logs it always says the workgroup client is in an unknown location and therefore doesn't get a Site code.

The logs say that the MP info is missing even though I've tried /mp and SMSMP.

If I join the domain all is good. I don't want to join the domain during the build and capture sequence but if I have to then I will.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Cheers

Deploy 32-bit OS and 64-bit OS using same Task Sequence and 64-bit PE

I've consolidated all of my OSD sequences into a single TS, allowing users to select an OS, Architecture, and Firmware Interface through an hta. I know you can use a 32-bit PE to deploy 64-bit OS, but I am trying to account for the introduction of UEFI-capable hardware in our environment and it requires a 64-bit PE. Is there a way to reboot my TS into a 32-bit PE if a user chooses to install a 32-bit OS?

Thanks so much!

workgroup clients and certificates during OSD

I'm having issues deploying applications during OSD to workgroup computers.

The site server roles are set for HTTP only so I wouldn't have thought that the issue would be certificates but I've exhausted every other avenue, boundaries, ccmsetup properties etc.

Do workgroup clients only require certs if the site server roles are configured to accept Https connections?

Cheers

Task Sequence - Moving computer to new OU

I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 Cumulative Update 3 environment and I am trying to build a step into my Win7 x64 task sequence that will query registry keys to get username and workstation type (laptop vs. desktop).

The user information is obtained at the beginning of the process, put into n TS variable, and written to the registry. After the OS, drivers, and basic software is installed, I would restart into OS and would like to query the registry, move the computer OU based off user's domain id location, and rename computer via a powershell script.

I have the following steps built into the task sequence.

1. Install .Net Framework 4.5

2. Install WMF 4.0

3. Enable RSAT and Import AD Module

4. Move and Rename Computer

I am running into issues with the powershell script that runs on step 4. The script is running with an ID account that has privileges to query AD and move computers. All steps (1-4) run without any issues if I target the computer that already has an OS installed.

Here is the command that I am running in the step 4:

powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File SHI_Computer-New.ps1

It fails on the first line that queries the registry with an error that states “Get-ITemProperty is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, operable program, or script file.

$Name = (Get-ItemProperty -Path HKLM:\SYSTEM\Setup\SCCMOSD -Name User).User

Has anyone seen this type of issue?

If I hit F8 and run the script as local system from the Packages folder that contains the script I can run the script without any issues.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Frontend, UDI for Windows Servers - HTA

I have a couple of tasks I want to complete with a GUI or something like that for installing Windows Server

1) Type in computername, so you can give the server a name in the begging of the installation (OSDComputerName works)
2) Choose if the computer going to be domainjoined or not
3) Give the server a IP-adress
4) Choose which roles and features going to be installed
5) Choose the applications and packages which will be installed.

Is there something like that out there? I runned into http://prettygoodfrontend.codeplex.com/ but thats for SCCM 2007.

Thanks in advance

Windows changes UEFI boot order

I am installing a captured UEFI windows image using Windows Deployment Services (WDS). I have configured the machines to always UEFI PXE boot first. After installing windows using WDS, the default boot order is changed so that the system always boots windows. Can I prevent windows from changing the boot order in NVRAM or is there a PowerShell cmdlet that allows me to change the boot order back to PXE boot after installation?

Dear All,

I want which OSD method used when we install the SCCM client on a XP machine and then target the OSD TS.

Is it a PXE boot method?

Hi there,

I have a SCCM 2012 R2 environment running on Windows Server 2012 on VMWare Workstation 10.0.1. My TS is deploying Win7x64 to another VM. I am using MDT integration and the first action after "Setup Winodws and ConfigMgr", and restarting from WinPE to Win7, is "Use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Package". It always downloads part of the package before it fails on a seemingly random file.

From the F8 prompt i am able to ping the MP/DP. From the MP/DP I am also able to download the file in question using Internet Explorer. From my viewpoint this looks like a transient network error, but I am open to any suggestions at this point. I have also seen the TS run through without a hitch once, so it seems like it's not perfectly consistent.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could cause this? Where should I be looking? Any troubleshooting tips?

Diskpart in OSD TS

Hi,

So i have task sequence that runs ok. It does everything, i even implemented bitlocker logic to encrypt the disk. If however i try to rebuild machine that is already enctypted my TS fails on start with error 0x80070070.

To fix this i pres F8 and then do manual DISKPART. Then after reboot the Task Sequence runs ok. I tried to implement the DISKPART in the TS in the very begining.

I have created package containing .txt with 2 instructions:

"sel disk 0

clean"

Then i execute diskpart /s textfile.txt as 1st step of my TS.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work for me. Any suggestions?

Offline Servicing Working but not Applying Updates

I am doing an offline service of Windows 8.1. The wizard finds updates and watching the logs it apply's them but when I go and deploy my OS it still installs all the updates that should have been injected during offline servicing.

I have compared the updates and the updates that are being installed are listed in the updates status window. I have made sure the DPs were updated with the new WIM. I have checked the OfflineServicingMgr.log and the only error is:

Deleting file \\?\C:\ConfigMgr_OfflineImageServicing\UCO00121\ImageMountDir\Admin Desktop Wallpaper.JPG, FAILED, Win32 Error = 1168

Failed to remove the staging folder C:\ConfigMgr_OfflineImageServicing, GLE = 1168

It seems everything else completes fine so i cannot determine if this is causing my issues? Has anyone else had this problem before? I haven't tried with Windows 7 as we are no longer using it.

Apps in Task Sequence

Hi Forum

I have SCCM 2012 R2 with CU3 and MDT 2013 integrated. Using an MDT task sequence I am able to deploy Office 2013 to Windows 8.1 (VM) as a package. Using the same packages source files I am also able to deploy Office 2013 as an application through the software center again to the same Windows 8.1 (VM)

However, using the same source files and application for Office 2013 that successfully deployed and still deploying to the same Windows 8.1 (VM). I amunable to deploy this through the task sequence.

My initial thought is the fact i havent deployed the Office application to the unknown collection. But I have the checkbox marked to deploy without needing this done.

Any idea why this might be failing? It just doesn make sense.

The location log is showing it connecting to the right MP and getting the DP is fine. I am using the SMSMP switch.

I couldnt see an error in the SMSTS log funnily enough. Maybe I needed to look harder. But just wondering if anyone had the sames issues. I would rather use application than package where possible. Only if 100% consistent.

Thanks in advance

NN
