During our standard Windows 7 deployment Task Sequence we are ocassionally having the _SMSTaskSequence folder left on the root of the system disk. Inside this folder are the files from one of our packages deployed in the Task Sequence. Looking at the PC and the SCCM reports this step in the Task Sequence has completed successfully.

If someone can shed some light on why this package folder is not being deleted that would be appreciated.

Apart from this the build is running through and completing successfully.

Hi all

I have distributed an MSI package to client successfully via SCCM 2012 R2. Now the developers want to distribute an updated MSI package (added a few things in the MSI) but still want to distibute the MSI with the same name.

I have tried different methods with no result.this is how we do it right now:

MSI gets distributed to client (Master laptop) and put in a specific folder C:\updater, other units (laptops) are then contacting the Master Laptop to download the MSI from the updater folder and installing it locally on Laptop. This part works just fine. The problem arises when developers want to send updates to the Master Laptop with the same MSI name. This fails, the client does not download the updated package, nor does it delete the package in the Updater folder. Until now the only solution I have to the problem is to ask for a updated package with a different name, but would like to determine if there is a solution to this specific problem.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I read a post on the internet: Link

In here is explained that you can't Pre-Provisioning 2 disks win Windows 7 during OSD.....but is that still the case ?

Or is there a way to get this working ?

I have a system with 1TB disk. During deployment I pre-provisioning the OSDISK of 400GB. This takes seconds :-)

After finishing the deployment I encrypt the DATADISK which takes up to 6 hours although it is empty.

Is there a way to Pre-Provisioning both OSDISK and DATADISK during the WinPE phase and for Windows 7 ?

Any ideas ? How ?

Atypical Package download failure

During OSD, I am having trouble downloading packages successfully. I get a 401 error with 80190191, but the usual fixes aren't working.

It is always failing on the same package but not on the same file. It is Office 2010 – so the package is quite a lot larger than the others. Other packages are installing OK.

It is not the problem with “Windows Authentication” not being installed.

It is not the problem corrected by the SMSYTSDownloadretry/delay values (although with the delay value set, I don’t know why it is trying 5 times in quick succession on the anonymous account only)

It is not a problem with the NAA accounts (it is using the computer object account) and it is working find for other packages. It feels like something expires or a connection is closed in some way. Just checking to see if anyone has tips before I open a case.

Using a new Task Sequence built with MDT 2013 on a SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 server the SCCM Client on imaged devices is in a limbo state for a long period of time with disabled components and missing actions, but after ~35 minutes I see the following line in execmgr.log:

Software distribution agent was enabled

After this a slew of policies and events are received.

What is causing such a long delay? Users cannot access Software Center nor receive any SUP Windows updates during this period.

i am using SCCM 2012 R2 with default boot images X64 to capture reference image via SCCM capture media method from VM machine (with out VM tools) it is necessary to add VM drivers into boot image i have tried to create a package from (C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers) but got an error . please let me know how to create VM driver package.

Hello,

I am trying to get PXE support for OSD in a sccm 2012 environment.

WSD resides on the same server as my SCCM 2012 Primary server.

I currently have one dp with PXE enabled.

My networking team asked what I needed for PXE support.

I responded:

DHCP discover package contains option 60

DHCP discover uses port 67 UDP

DHCP Offer uses port 68 UDP

Server ack from PXE server including options 66 and 67

Client unicast request for options 66 (boot server) and option 67 (boot file) (port 4011 UDP)

They responded with what do I need from below

The above response was from a different job and location. Now they are asking for info on boot file and hostname. Hostname I would think be the dp or in our case, the sccm primary server. The boot file, I have no idea

Just a quick one. I was wondering exactly when the option "copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points" should be used? From my understand its generally for anything that's part of your OSD TS as it enables network access. Trying to pin this answer down as ticking it for everything would bloat the server out with duplicates.

if any diffrence between default boot image and custom boot image for e.g i have a task sequence with a custom boot image so when task sequence selected custom boot image need to have required drivers to work. so it is necessary to copy default boot image X86 or X64 into DP's which stage default boot image come into picture since actual task sequence having custom boot image. please assist

We are finally getting ready to migrate from SCCM 2007 to 2012 R2.

Our current setup has 5 site servers with five OSD setups with boot media and Windows 7 task sequences.

I want to move all that to one site with a single OSD W7 task sequence.

The current, "apply network settings", step adds the workstation to one of five different OUs. The same with the "apply windows settings" step, we have five local admin passwords for five regions around the state.

I thought I might run five versions of each step and add a condition to each one that would only run if the machine was on the right subnet. Or the right Boundary group or maybe the right active directory site.

Currently I'm creating five boundary groups that I hope to detect by running a power script get-CmBoundaryGroup. Then apply the results maybe as a task sequence variable in the task steps options/Add Conditions.

Anybody have a better approach. Or alternate plan.

Does someone know how things like Domain Join credentials are stored when using a Stand Alone Media of a OS deployment Task Sequence?

We have a concern that if a Stand Alone Media is created and put on a USB stick that there is a possibility of being able to extract the passwords used in the OSD process (scripts, domain join account, etc.).

There appears to be some level of protection on the Policy.XML file and Variables.DAT but what about the unattended.xml, etc.? Where/how is the decryption (or obfuscation) key stored?

I would lige the Fuzzy Lookup Add-In for Excel to be installed silently, but it seems only to be possible for a Per-User installation with the parameter "setup.exe /passive"

I need the installation to be for All Users, but I can´t find any parameter that makes that possible.

We have a situation where we have determined that USMT is corrupting the Wi-Fi profiles. I have tried to turn off the profile migration process using these settings, but for no use. It still corrupts the data. How can we turn this off?

Hello,

new year, new problems :-)

After a client of mine upgraded his VMware environment and moved the ConfigMgr Servers, he's been having trouble with his ConfigMgr environment. The main problem being an utterly slow OSD. He has a ConfigMGr 2012 R2 CU3 environment with all needed Patches and Updates installed.

So what's the problem? During a Tasksequence, after the client installation step (on a Win7 SP1 Enterprise x86 system), the client needs about 30 Minutes to initialize. I was able to track down the error in ClientIDManagerStartup.log - the client cannot register itself with the MP: "RegTask: Failed to send registration request message. Error: 0x8000000a"

After n retries, the client can suddenly register and the tasksequence continues, until the next reboot causes the next client initialization.

I initially checked the Primary Site Server and found out that the customer had activated HTTPS only without adding any kindof PKI certificate. I switched everything back to HTTP but that did not solve the problem.

When querying the Primary Site for MP information, as stated on Blog #2, the Primary Site responds with both MPs in the customers environment as follows:

I have also added the parameters SMSMP=server.corp.domain.com and SMSDIRECTORYLOOKUP=NOWINS, but that hasn't changed anything either.

At this point, the only other advice I've found, is to uninstall the MP and reinstall it. I'm reluctant to do this, as we're working in a productive environment and I'd rather try something more subtle, than breaking out the sledge hammer...
I've no idea whtat else to try at the moment. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Trouble importing drivers

Hello,

I am working on importing drivers into SCCM2012 R2 and have run into the following error:

"Configuration Manager cannot import the specified driver folder. Verify that the folder exists in the specified location and that both the SMS Provider computer and the computer running the Configuration Manger consoles have Read permissions to the specified shared folder"

The folder I am trying to access is stored locally on the server. I have shared the folder with read/write access to the account I am logged in with as well as the SYSTEM account. The SMS provider computer is also the same server I am working on. I have tried storing the folder on a different share with the same permissions and I still get the same issue.

A few other posts here on TechNet recommended changing the share permissions the way I have them set up now. I haven't been able to find anything else on the subject unfortunately.
