hey all,

i'm planning the migration of our SCCM 2007 SP2 server to 2012 R2, and was hoping to get some direction in terms of articles, documentation etc. that anyone could recommend for such a project (hardware/resource/configuration requirements for 2012 installation, SQL database setup considerations, central/primary site planning, configuring client and distribution/management point setup, etc).

i get the sense that this is going to be a challenge, and want to make sure i'm following the proper steps to get 2012 up and running smoothly.

has anyone tackled this migration before?  i'd appreciate any feedback others could give on the topic.

I'm struggling to get W2K12R2 deployed via OSD on my physical DELL machines.

I've captured an image (via VM) with SCCM 2012 R2 CU1. When I deploy the image to a VM, it is working fine. When I'm deploying it to a physical machine, it fails. During tasksequence some roles are added via dism, but dism failed because the image is corrupted (not valid package). After applying the image and reboot, the image gets corrupted.

I have included all patches in the image (before capture) that were available including the rollup of november.

Could this be driver related?

i have removed from two servers the dp role. After that i have reinstalled it, so i have resolved the problem to deploy some new packages.

After that, unfortunatly, i have all the package folders present in my dp machine but for sccm the packages are not distributed so my task sequence fail.

There is a way to let the console understand that the packages lready exist and not to redeploy all of them?

I am stuck with an issue at clients place, where I have "Build & Captured a reference OS image" the deployment is smooth, it gets properly installed, but it utilizes the entire Hard Disk and does not adhere to the HD partition specified in"Format & Partition disk" action.

I have a Task Sequence for Windows 7 x64 that is failing during the ConfigMgr client installation.  I am using a vanilla install.wim from the Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 ISO.  It's the base Task Sequence and fails to install the ConfigMgr client as the Windows Update Agent is failing.  It does not fail when using a Hyper-V guest but fails on all newer Dell laptop and desktop models.  I cannot find the error codes given in the logs below to determine the cause.  Any help would be appreciated.

Environment: SCCM 2012 R2 CU3

Background:

Prestaged image was applied to machine. The prestaged image was created based on our old TS which only contains winpe boot image and the windows 7 operating system. WINPE v4.0 was still used in this prestaged image. We recently updated our TS with WINPE v5.1(we did not create a new prestage image) in order to accommodate the installation of SCCM client R2 CU3 during the build.

Build Process:

Powered on the machine and boot to the hard disk(since prestaged image was already applied to the machine). After selecting our TS, it starts to download the WINPE v5.1 and then asks for a reboot. After the reboot, it starts to apply the operating system but will fail afterwards. Snippet of the error in smsts.log can be found below.

What we have noticed:

If we don't change the boot image of the TS to WINPE v5.1 and still use WINPE v4.0, we don't encounter the error. The only time we encounter the error is when we change the boot image of the TS to WINPE v5.1. Note that I can ping the FQDN of the Primary server and the dp when using WINPE v5.1

This is the first OSD in SCCM 2012 R2 that I am testing and I cannot get any application (not package) deployed finding several different errors (see below).  Also I am confused as to whether the client is properly registering on the server (and if this is the cause of my problems)

The SMSTS log is showing the following errors during SMS client install:

• Unable to read SMS client cert from environment. Not restoring SMS client cert.
• Active request handle is empty, registering with new active request handle. This is expected if the TS was started from a media/PXE.
• Failed to create instance for IMTCTokenHandler interface, hr=0x80070005
• Failed to find property 'AutoApplyDeployment' in 'CCM_ApplicationManagementClientConfig' class defintion. Error 0x80041002. Default value will be used for this property
• Error getting system isolation info. Code 8027000C
• Remediation failed with error code 8027000C

Then during the application deployment phase I am seeing:

• NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate )
• Policy Evaluation failed, hr=0x80004005
• Install application action failed: 'Microsoft Visio Viewer 2013'. Error Code 0x80004005
• Install application action cannot continue. ContinueOnErrorFlag is set to false.

The SMS client is installed at the end of the failed task sequence but seems to have a few things not available. 

Can I get any guidance on how to isolate what might be the cause of this?

there's one thing I have in mind for a while and haven't got a solution for it

We use SCCM 2012 to build and create our master image with a Task Sequence

one task before the syspreping is  "prepare configuration manager client", which from my understanding and from technet - resets all the client's unique configuration.

conclusion - the SCCM Client is installed and "Syspreped" on our base image

in that case, assuming we still use the same SCCM client version, is there a way to save time during the Deploy task sequence?

the "Setup windows and ConfigMgr" step is required and it installs the SCCM Client all over again, even though it is already included in our master image.

I have been put in charge of the imaging/task sequence creating of SCCM for my company. I had the sysadmin here set up the MDT integration with SCCM but i still don't see a "Create MDT Task Sequence" in the sccm console. If he logs into the server he can see it, but if him or i do it through the admin console there is nothing.

I have 10 clients all DH61BE Core i5 identical, If i mulicast them from WDS i get 27% nic usage on the clients and if i multicast them from SCCM i get 4% nic usage, All default settings and servers exactly the same spec hardware and software running 2008r2,

What is going on I wouldnt belive Microsoft would release a product that gives me errors when deploying images on such a scale, However i have had IBM and Cisco come in and they have tested everything and as the above table shows its a SCCM specific issue.

I'm trying to automate the PC Naming process during Windows 7 Deployment with MDT 2010 and SCCM 2012. 

I need to add a 3-character site code to the PC name, but I'm not sure how to get it.  Ideally, I would like to identify the distribution point used for OSD, and then based on that distribution point, create a custom MDT variable that is the site code, and later add that custom variable to a string that will be the name.

For example, if a computer was imaged using DP01.mycomapny.local as a distribution point, then MDT customsettings.ini would set the custom variableSiteCode  = HOU and later in the CustomSettings.ini I would haveOSDComputerName = %SiteCode%-%SerialNumber%

My problem is that I don't know how to determine the distribution point from inside customsettings.ini.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got OSD working on nearly 100 physical sites, however, I have issues on one site.

For whatever reason, after client installation, site assignment doesnt work, so no Applications install...

Once OSD is complete, then everything works as expected.

I've run OSD and then F8'd it just before the Application Install steps, run the SMSCFGRC.cpl and clicked 'Find Site' which it does, and it finds the correct site.

What could be wrong here? DNS? Or something else?

The Task Sequence is the same used on all other sites, so I'm thinking its something to do with external issues to ConfigMgr on this site.

I have spent the last 2 days looking for an actual solution to my problem with the above error message. This appears after I have connected to SCCM after the password login. It immediately comes up with the message "An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer  (0x80004005). For more information, please contact your system administrator or helpdesk operator. "

I have tried every possible solution including checking the BIOS clock, I have enable command support ticked but can't work out how that helps as I have pressed F8 at all points in the process and nothing comes up so I can't get a copy of the SMSTS.log as far as I know (open to suggestions). I have restarted the server - no difference. This is such a generic error message that it is useless...it's basically saying you have an error (which you know) but we don't know what it is.

Can anyone shed any light as at the moment SCCM is useless to us. This is not even mentioning that we have given up using it as it is constantly filling the disk space and we have stopped allocating more space as it was spiralling. Microsoft never mentioned any of this at training or in their promotion for the product. We have gone back to FOG to image and deploy.

I created a MDT task sequence in SCCM and went through all the steps for setting up the toolkit and settings and boot image. After all that, I distributed everything to my DP. When i try to boot to pxe and run that new MDT task sequence it finds the pxe server, but just sits at "Contacting server" for some time until it times out. If I select the SCCM boot image in the task sequence properties then it works. the one created when i create the task sequence doesn't.

Any Idea?

After OSD Deployment, I noticed the windows updates were pointing to the internet and not our wsus server so I added the lines below to the registry during OSD deployment.  So now when I run windows update it takes long and ends up with the same results, like it is pulling from the internet still. when I entered http:/sccm01.***/8530 I am getting 403 - forbidden: Access is denied.  Obvious it is not getting to the sccm wsus server to get update list.Thanks for your help,Mark
