No mouse cursor during Windows 8.1 OSD

Hi,

I have a problem that is bugging me. Not really a biggie but a frustrating one.

When deploying Windows 8.1 using a MDT 2013 TS from CM12R2 the mouse cursor gets disabled when the OS reboots into minisetup/windows.

As long as the TS is in WinPE all is fine, but once rebooted the cursor goes away and comes back only when the TS completes.

The mouse is enabled as I can fool around with it and find where it is by clicking like a madman until a window gets highlighted.

Deploying different DELL workstations/laptops, all with the same symptom.

SCCM2012r2sp1CU3: Applications and packages won't install when using OSD TS.

Hi,

Using SCCMR2sp1CU3 on windows server2012r2 (SQL 2012SP2).  Client OS = win7SP1.  Using http with self-signing certificate.

I have the following problem:  when running an OSD TS on a pc, the step 'Setup Windows and ConfigMgr' runs with success. After the pc reboot the next step starts with the installation of software (using an application or package).  I see the application (or package) downloading and it downloads with success.  The execmgr.log then raises a program start event (for the package) but actual installation is never done.

The ClientAuth.log give the following:

<![LOG[Error signing client message (0x80004005).]LOG]!><time="11:16:05.219-120" date="04-21-2016" component="ClientAuth" context="" type="3" thread="3128" file="clientauthhook.cpp:386">

Anyone have an idea what is causing this?

deploying task sequence to non domain system with OS insatlled

Hi All,

We got a requirement to do OS post installation task like drivers install, windows settings, domain join , sccm client install to non domain desktops which contains win 10.

Is it possible to achieve this requirement using task sequence in SCCM 2012 R2..??

The criteria here is the desktops are non domain join and the desktops have preinstalled win 10 OS ?? Is it possible to do os customization without touching the preinstalled OS  apart from using media method

Need suggestion to move forward..

Thanks in advance !!!

Schedule Updates Windows 10 Build 10586 - No Updates Shown

I'm trying to set a schedule for offline updates on the new Windows 10 Build 10586. The issue is that nothing shows up on the list of updates available.

In looking at the dbo.SupportedProductsForOfflineServicing table we see Windows 10 is only version 10.0.10240

Notice how the Windows 10 version it validates against is 10.0.10240 and not what we have currently 10.0.10586. I've tried manually changing the version number in SQL which didn't resolve the issue. I don't have a support contract with MS so I can't go to them unfortunately. I am going to open a TechNet issue though and see if I can get some traction on the FREE route.

80070002 Zero-Touch OS deployment

We are using SCCM 2012 R2 for Zero-Touch OS deployment. When we deploy an OS we get the error 80070002. We have a network access account defined and I checked the password. There are not logs on the client. And found nothing that seemed related in the DP logs. What else should I be looking at?

Also, if we boot the same client from network, the client images correctly.

Query to find all Software Deployments to a specific OS

Hello,

Is it possible to query any deployment that went to or a system with a particular Image ID?

I have been digging around Queries, Reports, Deployments, Operating System Images, looking for a way to meet this criteria, but have not found a way yet.

The thing is, we have Student images that belong to several different Collections, but the Collections are not labelled very consistently, and there are a lot of them to sift through to find out what software is deployed to Student Collections.

The criteria that would bring all this together is the OS Image ID. Can we query Deployments > Image ID?

Thank you very much

USMT will fail to capture with error 0x87D00215 in SCCM 1602

Hi all,

I have come across an issue with User State capture (and potentially state restore) in2 separate SCCM enviroments that were recently upgraded to Version 1602.

User State Capture fails with the same error regardless of whether State Capture is using USMT 10 or 6.3, and in both online (OS) captures and offline (WinPE) captures. I have tried capturing from both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (Build 1511) computers and the result is the same.

The User State Capture and Restore operations were working perfectly before the upgrade to SCCM Version 1602.

The relevant info extracted from SMSTS.log is shown below:

 - SCCM OSD Environment:MDT 2013 Update 2 is integrated into SCCM. All Task Sequences are MDT type Task Sequences.

The User State Capture failure occurs whether State Capture is attempted online (i.e. in OS), or offline (i.e. in WinPE)

What I have tried:

1.Recreate USMT 10 and 6.3 package and redistribute to DP's

2.Tried User State Capture in both enviornments from within the OS AND from WinPE. Both failed with the same error.

3.Tried User State Capture using all the following USMT versions USMT 10.1 (1511), USMT 10.0, USMT 6.3, USMT 6.2 and the error is exactly the same.

Not sure what the problem is and was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem? It's quite a problem becuase I can't roll back from the 1602 upgrade and I need User state Migration working for my clients OS Deployment process.

Thanks!

OSD Deployment from within Windows

I have two (small) questions:

I want to start an OSD task sequence from the Software Center in Windows (so a user can perform reinstall his or her own computer).

  1. How can I grap the current computer name and use that in the TS so the computer reinstalls with the same name without the user having to input it?
  2. My TS fails right away... what extra step should I add for the boot image to be downloaded and the system to restart in WinPE and continue with the task sequence (first next step is to format the disk0?

Thanks for any help!

performance tips?

2012 R2 SP1 CU3

Hello - I've noticed 2 things that are causing slow deployments.

  • The deployment wants to install SCEP but Windows 10 won't let it so ultimately we wait longer for deployment. Anyway to fix that?
  • Post deployment ConfigMgr client still does not have Policies and AV is still not up-to-date. 4 hours and defender still not updated (by itself)

Now - if my users were a patient type they could wait another 20-30 minutes and everything is right but they are not and if I could get this part to speed up a bit I would be much appreciated :-)

Ideas / Thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi All,

I have been running runbooks from MDT 2012 successfully. But Im know trying to use this in SCCM 2012 with MDT intregration.

But, its not OSD task sequence, its a cuom tast with just one task "Execute run book". Im able to run this from runbook console passing OSDComputername manually.

The runbook adds the computer to an security group.

Run PowerShell script from a task sequence

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to execute a PowerShell script for my Windows Server 2012 R2 Task Sequence. This PowerShell script enables Remote Desktop and installs Hyper-V role; the script works fine when I run it on an actual server.

I modified my boot image to include: Windows PowerShell (WinPE-DismCmdlets), Microsoft .NET (WinPE-NetFx) and Windows PowerShell (WinPE-PowerShell) and I updated the distribution point.

Here's the error message I get during the TS:

And here's how I created the task in the TS:

If I move the task past Apply Driver Package group, the script never runs.

Any ideas?

OSD Configuration

Hi, We are looking for a way to implement a frontend user input screen as part of OSD.  We use PXE for imaging and utilise a DHCP scope on the distribution point server, which works fine for the majority of our builds.  The collection variable for OSDComputername is also used to provide a method to input the name after choosing the Task Sequence.

However, we would like the option to also allow input of a static IP address / default gateway etc for some clients and servers, so would like a method to enter this information in along with a computer name prior to the build process starting.  I've seen some threads regarding the use of hta files - is this the best way to achieve the end result.  It would also be nice to incorporate a drop down list of available Task Sequences to choose from within the same frontend if this is possible.

Thanks in advance.

Include Office 365 Pro Plus in image or not? Pros/cons?

I need some advise regarding a new Windows 10 image.

Office 365 Pro Plus is not like the traditional MSI version of Office 2016 and must be activated by a licensed Office 365 user.

Do most people include Office 365 Pro Plus in the image or not?

Are there any Pros/cons?

Import entire MDT deployment process into SCCM

Hi,

We have a remote location who is using MDT 2013 for image build and deployment process. I am trying to introduce SCCM to them and wonder how difficult it would be to migrate their existing MDT deployment into SCCM or I would have to rebuild everything for OS deployment? If there is a way of importing existing MDT deployment process (workbench) into SCCM (includes tasksequnce, settings, configuration etc) without rebuilding everything from scratch.

Thanks

Intel Generic NIC driver fails Win7 first startup, but manually installed working fine

$

I have intresting scenario here which amazes me little bit, since I´m working with OSD over 6 years now, but it´s never late to learn new tricks :)

I´m using Intel generic NIC package to be able to install only NIC drivers on new model and then gather rest of the drivers with vendor utility (we´re trying to avoid downloading different packages via browser).

This is the driver-pack I´m talking about: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18713/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-7-

1. If I install Win7 with using only those drivers in CM driver package, during first native OS start I get endless black screen error which wines about missing files in inf, and that inf is some of those extracted files in driver package.

2. If I then, with the same model, install Win7 without any drivers, login and plug USB stick containing _exact_ same driver folder and files, it picks up a little bit different sys/inf file, and works fine without dying on me with black screen loop.

So what´s happening? Why plug-and-play mechanism is different in CM TS and manual seeking and injection?

Hi,

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 + CU3 running on Windows 2012 R2 server.

I can't get task sequence sucessfully completed when deploying Windows 2008 R2 x64 machines. Note that everything is working fine while deploying Windows 2012, or 2012 R2, or Windows 7.

I receive an error at the stage when SCCM client is installed, hence no applications are deployed hereafter. The interesting part is that if I reboot the server, the SCCM client installation is triggered and the client is installed without any problems. I confirm that no GPOs are in place.

Looks like the installation fails due to a missed reboot? Or it has something to do with the timeout (it didn't complete within some interval)?

The deployed server looks fine (network/AD/partitioning of drives) with no applications deployed though due to SCCM client failure during OSD stage. I'm experiencing this issue with Windows 2008 R2 deployments only.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
