Dell Touch Screen Models do not image properly with SCCM 2012 R2 UDI

$

We recently started receiving Dell Touch Screen Models, including a Dell Latitude E7270 Touchscreen and a Dell Optiplex 7440 AIO. We have found that while they seem to image succesfully and all drivers are succesful with these models, they dont treat the UDI Task sequence correctly. After the build has completed using SCCM 2012 R2 UDI there is no deployment complete window and first login can take up to 30 minutes. During the first login the UDI Deployment complete window finally appears

The only workaround I have found at the moment is to disable the Touchscreen option in the BIOS and then image the workstations.

We imaged Microsoft Surface Pro Models (which have Touchscreen) with no issues.

Has any one else had this problem? Is it a WinPE issue? Do I need to inject drivers into the WinPE Boot image?

SCCM 2012 SP2 CU3 - Importing Windows 10 drivers errors continue - Error: Some driver(s) cannot be imported successfully. See following details.'

Hi there

In order to start testing Windows 10 OSD, we upgraded to SCCM 2012 SP2 a short time ago.

I was aware that there were issues importing Windows 10 driver packs into SCCM 2012 SP2, and true enough we are seeing issues around this area.

I managed to cleanly import the Windows 10 driver pack for one Lenovo machine into SCCM with zero errors; but with a different model I saw the same errors others are reporting.

These errors are covered at the start of this Microsoft KB article:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3025419

-- Error: Some driver(s) cannot be imported successfully. See following details.

-- Error: Failed to import the following drivers:

-- <Driver> - The selected driver is not applicable to any supported platforms.

This KB article advises that this issue is due not to SCCM 2012, but to an older signature signing method in Windows Server 2008 R2. The solution is to install the following two hotfixes:

2837108
2921916

The problem is these hotfixes were aleady installed on the SCCM site server - they were installed prior to SP2 being applied.

My question is, do these hotfixes need to be re-installed after SP2 / CU3 have been installed?

The plain fact is they are both installed yet we are seeing the exact same errors in the exact same log files as listed in the KB article.

Anyone encountered this?

Capture Image Failing

Hi,

I am attempting to capture a Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64bit image from a physical Lenovo laptop. I created my USB capture image, just as you would with creating any other capture media; like shown here: http://prajwaldesai.com/capture-windows-7-using-sccm-2012-r2/

However, when I put the USB into the laptop, run the AutoRun task the configurator asks all the correct steps and proceeded with its Sysprep.

After it reboots and enters Windows PE, I get an error 0x80220014. I even tired a CD media with the some result.

Any help on how to fix this error would be great. I need this to work for Windows 7 while this error seems to point to guides about Windows 10.

Boot Image not apply Network Drivers

Hello,

I already added the drivers to boot images, but when I run the OSD Task Sequence the image doesn't apply the network drivers to my laptop computers, (Dell Latitude 3560, 3570) I downloaded the drivers from Dell site using the Service Pack to be sure that is the correct one.

Any Idea?

Software Updates hand - W10 Task sequence with Bitlocker

$

Have setup new TS for Windows 10 Enterprise under R2 SP1 CU1. I apply the Software Updates step after installing apps so that it picks up all the updates including Office 2013. On laptops I am enabling Bitlocker. I'm finding the SU step finds about 57 patches, downloads then starts applying and then stops at particular office updates - nothing showing in SMSTS.log other than "Waiting for RefreshUpdates complete notification from Updates Deployment Agent". Strangely a desktop (non bitlocker) works just fine i.e. applies all the patches without fail. So I've had to move the apply SU step higher up so it only applies O/S updates and that is ok. I tried taking specific update it was failing out of the SU group but it hangs at a different Office update, but as I say never a problem with the desktop - same build just no bitlocker. I also tried moving the bitlocker step below the software updates to no avail. The TS never times out - i.e. still sitting there over night hanging at the SU step

OSD Task Sequence Variables

Hi all

Using existing built in CM12 (1511) OSD Task Sequence variables, can anybody tell me how to identify which application fails if _TSAppInstallStatus = Error?

Thanks in advance.

Switch from BIOS to UEFI during OSD

$

My goal is to change BIOS settings from BIOS Legacy to UEFI (or UEFI CSM) during OSD on a HP laptop. So to do that I have created some steps in Windows PE Phase.
- Reboot in WinPE, Clean disk (diskpart), then Partition Disk (MBR) if not already UEFI-Mode

So far ok.

I use HP BIOSConfigurationUtility to change some BIOS settings to fit my standard and change to UEFI-Mode. It works great. But I can't reboot in Windows PE automatically because Partition is MBR and not GPT. So I decided to change that before restart in Windows PE.

- Clean disk (diskpart) a second time, Partition Disk (GPT) and Restart in Windows PE step.

Unfortunately it doesn't work because Windows PE isn't in EFI-Mode now. So I tried to correct that with bcdboot before "Restart in Windows PE" step:

- "bcdboot X:\Windows /S: C: /F EFI" and "bootsect /nt60 C: /force" and then "Restart in Windows PE" step.

"Restart in Windows PE" step still fails but after the system reboots, it starts Windows PE in EFI-Mode and I can select my OSD and everything is ok.

Is it possible to automate the whole process? My Scenario works well but it fails the first time if BIOS not already in UEFI.

I hope my post is clear enough... :-)

Please help - Driver install for in place upgrade to Windows 10

Hello all,

Can someone please help, I've posted previously regarding this but the thread seems to have died.

In short, I have an in place upgrade that goes fine, but every machine has been assigned basic Microsoft drivers for it's display, and a couple even without LAN drivers! Out company revolves around multiple displays so deploying this in that state is not welcome.

I've setup the task sequence to copy the contents of the driver packages to C:\Drivers, then on the setup.exe I've placed the /installdriver C:\Drivers.

I'm going to disable the additions I've made and run a test again just to make sure the base upgrade works.

Thanks

MDT-Integrated SCCM 2012 OSD UDI Software List is Blank

$

I've created and successfully deployed an MDT-integrated SCCM 2012 OSD solution using a UDI I customized for our organization. However, we need a second UDI to accommodate a different OSD process. I've come across a problem wherein if I create a copy of the original, working UDIWizard_Config.xml file and rename it UDIWizard_Config_Staff.xml the entire list of optional software at the Install Programs step is blank. Every other step seems to be fine. Previously I made a ton of changes to the file and had this problem. To eliminate possible causes I've tried various things in the UDI designer. But now I've simply made a copy of the original with a new file name and get the same result. Is there another config file I need to create or alter so this step works properly?

Do disabled drivers still install via apply driver package step

I am trying to identify which driver in my Apply Driver Package step is causing a BSOD after the machine reboots and gets into the configuring windows steps of normal windows setup (when I presume drivers are being loaded).  In an effort to identify which is the issue, I am trying to just Disable drivers in my driver package. I don't know if this has any effect when using the Apply Driver Package step vs. Auto Apply Drivers.

Anyone confirm this either way?  I'd rather not have to remove things from my driver package entirely and then update distribution points.  Trying to save time.  With that in mind, when I disable a driver does that require a distribution point update or not?

Windows 10 UEFI build failing at start of task sequence.

Hello. So I will start out with saying that I have been able to successfully image a computer with this task sequence when the computer is in legacy BIOS, but when I change it to UEFI w/ secure boot enabled (or even with it disabled so far) it does not work. It boots into PXE fine, then our Task Sequence Wizard starts, allows me to go through all of our UDI wizard options until it begins. Then it starts the TS where it formats and partitions the disk. It displays no errors and simply reboots within about 2 minutes of starting the process.

When I look at the smsts.log file I see:

Then the log just abruptly ends, without an error. I am assuming that is when it reboots and then goes through it's normal boot cycle and when it gets to the HDD it states that an OS could not be found.

Little bit more information: We use SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 version 5.0.8239.1203 (with Windows 10 ADK installed) with MDT 2013 Update 2 I believe. And not that it matters too much to this process but in our test environment (where I am attempting this image) we also have Adaptiva version 5.5.659.3 which is an alternate content provider for SCCM instead of using a distribution point at each site we have what is called Adaptiva OneSite which allows us to have 1 DP in our global organization.

Let me know if more information is needed, any little bit helps. Thanks.

Why do I have a D Drive when I deploy Windows 7 and how do I get rid of it??

I am testing deployment of a Windows 7 x64 SP1 image from SCCM 2012 R2.

I am trying to deploy it to VMware VM that only has 1 hard drive. The image deploys successfully, but I have a small D drive.

The 10MB D drive is empty. How do I prevent this D drive from being created?

windows 10 Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware

Hello,

This is an odd one. I load Windows 10 Pro out of the box on my Dell E5450. I enter audit mode and make some minor UI changes(Background etc)then I set the skiprearm regkey and then finally sysprep with an Uninstall.xml file that has the copy profile flag set as YES. This will copy my changes to the default profile. When the laptop shuts down I restart the laptop  into Audit mode again except this time I set the skiprearm and then upload the WIM to SCCM.

No issues. I did this with WIndows 7 and it worked great. I can pull the W10 image back down to the laptop no problem.

Now when I load it back onto the laptop and make 1 more change, set the skip rearm regkey and then upload to the SCCM server with no issues. However when I go to deploy the image back to the laptop It will go all the way through the task sequence (I only have the steps start in WInpe, Partiton DIsks UEFI, Apply OS, Apply WIndows Settings, Apply Network Settings, Auto Apply Drivers, setup WIndows and CM client)  detects hardware then reboots and then I get "windows 10 Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"

Any ideas?

I used this process successfully all through the WIn7 deployments we have used the last 5 years. I don't want to use a VM as there are just some options that don't appear under Windows when not using physical hardware and I can't set via GPO and this method has worked well.

TIA

SCCM Environtment SCCM 2012 R2 Version 5.00.8239.1000 and Build 8239

Laptop attempting to image is Dell Latitude E7470

For some context, I have been working on setting up OS Deployment via boot media and PXE boot, and have successfully gotten the task sequence to come up on our older laptops, however on our newer laptops it can not pull an IP address once it loads the boot image, which research indicated was a driver issue. I have tried adding the various network related drivers from the vendors site (Dell), pulling the .inf files from the installers, put them on a network accessible drive, imported them into drivers in the SCCM console, added them to the correct driver package, and added them to the boot image being used. I run into the following errors when I try to update the DP's:

Error: Boot image to update:

• Microsoft Windows PE (x64)

  Error: Actions to perform:

  Error: Failed to import the following drivers:

  Error: The wizard detected the following problems when updating the boot image.

• Failed to inject a ConfigMgr driver into the mounted WIM file

The SMS Provider reported an error.: ConfigMgr Error Object:

• ErrorCode = 2152205056;

};

I am not sure if I just missed something along the way, or if I just need some sort of work around because it picks it up as unsigned. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, I have only been working with SCCM for a few months so I am not exceptionally well versed on its inner workings.

Thanks,

Chris Skeen

Build and Capture issue

We have SCCM2012 R2 SP1 and windows 7 clients.

The last time, about 9 months ago, after struggling a few days, I had a Build and Capture TS that worked.

Yesterday I used the schedule updates options to apply about 90 patches to the WIM file. Started the B&C TS, but got an error installing KB2775511. The last time I ran a B&C, I didn't have this issue. Part of the smsts.log:

UDI Combobox

I am designing a UDI where there are around many sites spread across the world
We already have Site code defined for each site.
Depending on site there are some setting or groups which are added to a machine while deploying a image.
As of now we have all site codes in UDI in a Combo Box.
To reduce the list we are thinking of implementing a another combobox where in region will be selected and depending the region only particular set of site codes will be displayed. But i am not able to make changes in the code and achive it.
also wanted to check if we can arrange items in UDI in accessding order ?

Here are 2 combo box's we have in UDI

<Data Name="combo1">
        <DataItem>
          <Setter Property="DisplayName">North America</Setter>
          <Setter Property="Value">NA</Setter>
        </DataItem>
        <DataItem>
          <Setter Property="DisplayName">South America</Setter>
          <Setter Property="Value">SA</Setter>
        </DataItem>
        <DataItem>
          <Setter Property="DisplayName">Europe</Setter>
          <Setter Property="Value">EMEA</Setter>
        </DataItem>

          <Setter Property="DisplayName">INDIA</Setter>
          <Setter Property="Value">India</Setter>
        </DataItem>
</Data>

<Data Name="combo2">

Boot image properties

Hello.

I am running SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 with ADK 8.1.  I was wanting to begin testing Win10 OSD.  I went and installed ADK 10 on a separate Win10 box and created my new boot image.  After I imported it into SCCM, I went to right click the image and select properties and there are a lot of tabs missing.  In particular the tab "customization" that allows me to enable command support (F8) for troubleshooting.

My question is, if I update my ADK on my SCCM server will I get these missing tabs back?

I am having issues with my new boot WIM and need to hit F8 to prevent the task sequence from rebooting the machine.

Thanks.
J
