Moving OS Task Sequence from SCCM2007 to SCCM2012

We have a build within SCCM2007 that is used to build and/or re-image standard desktops across our estate.  We now have the beginnings of a new SCCM2012, can I export or copy the image from 2007 to 2012 to negate the need to create from scratch?

Thank you in advance.

Terrible driver support - Windows 10 upgrade

$

Afternoon everyone,

We've just done our Alpha and Beta tests and sadly, we are having a serious issue with drivers, display and even some cases of intel LAN drivers not being installed...

What is the best way to go about this in order to facilitate the devices (Lenovo, HP and Dell, all different models) get the best and appropriate drivers? The most common issue is a user coming in on the morning and seeing they can only display to one screen due to the display adapter only having the basic Microsoft driver applied.

Annoyingly, I've been given 6 hours to sort this... And my knowledge on SCCM as stated before is terribly basic.

It's worth noting I'm doing a required, out of hours in place upgrade using TS in SCCM 2012 R2. It's gone well so far, aside from drivers. I also need to make IE default and remove (at least remove the icon from task bar and replace it with IE).

Thanks

Can't PXE boot a client after upgrade to 1511 and ADK 10

Issue:

F12 a client and get PXE-E53 No boot file name available

Factors:

      • This happened after upgrading SCCM 2012 r2 sp1 to 1511, and ADK win10, and running the patch KB314370.

We applied the KB314370 patch because we first got this:

"launch a task sequence that uses a Windows PE v10.0.10586 boot image. When the computer restarts into Windows PE, it will fail when “Initializing hardware devices” with the error: “Windows PE initialization failed with error code 0x80220014.”

      • Both the newly created x86 and x64 from ADK 10 boot images are distributed and have WinPE 10 drivers.
      • PXE is enabled on the DP.  One site.
      • SMSPXE.log on the server is not even being populated at all since the upgrade.  The last line is: PXE Provider shutdown
      • Previous to this upgrade, we could PXE boot, now we can't.  We do have IP helpers on our switches.

Steps I tried with No success:

  1.       Disable PXE support on all (old and new) boot images
  2.       Disable PXE support on DP
  3.       Remove WDS role
  4.       Reboot server
  5.       Enable PXE support on two new boot images (x64 and x86 winpe ADK Win10)
  6.       Enable PXE support on DP
  7.       Wait for WDS role to be installed
  8.       Redistribute two new boot images to DP
  9.       Verify RemoteInstall folder has been populated
  •    F12 a client – no, same error PXE-E53 No boot file name available

      Thank you for any help!

ConfigMgr client installation fails during task sequence

We have a problem with OSD where the task sequence fails with error "Failed to execute task sequence (0x80004005)". Our environment is using SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3. Reviewing the logs it appears to be that the failure occurs during the "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step. Once the task sequence fails I am able to login to the PC and the Client is installed, but never communicates with the server. I've checked the logs for the client installation in the CCMSETUP\Logs folder, but I can't see anything obviously wrong there. I'm posting sections from the logs below. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Task Sequence Not Completing Post Reboot After Setup Windows and ConfigMgr Step

      Hi,

I have a task sequence which is working fine and able to run all TS steps successfully. I copied this Task sequence and made it to use the new custom OS image(recently build) in "Apply Operating System Image".

During the OSD, the OS image applies fine, post which it moves to the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step and it reboots normally as set in the Task Sequence but it comes up to the Windows login screen for the OS already installed and doesn't complete all of the steps.

I have tried changing the settings in TS for Restart computer (just after the Setup Windows step), to run "the boot image assigned to this task sequence"but that doesn't help.

What I am not sure is why the original task sequence works fine but when it is copied, it doesn't work. The only difference here is the OS image changed under the "Apply Operating System" step and everything else is same. Also the image does applies successfully.

There aren't any errors in SMSTS.log as well. here are the logs :

Custom Task Sequences for USMT backup/restore

      Hi everyone,

So my company will be replacing a lot of machines soon. I was assigned a task to make sure the data travels with users. I want to use USMT with custom task sequences to capture user state and then restore it.
I have SCCM 2012 SP1 with MDT 2013 latest update. I have a primary site server and a distribution point server. I installed State Migration Point on my distribution server and created a folder - D:\UserStateMigrationData where I'd like to keep the migrated files.

I created a task sequence in SCCM using MDT button - Client Replace Task Sequence.

I then create a computer association in SCCM for User State Migration. I put the source and destination machines in.

I manage to run the Backup TS on a source machine and capture the data fine to my distribution point folder. The USMT.mig file gets created. Now how do I restore this on a destination machine? What task sequence do I need to create to get it restored? Any variables that need to be created/populated?

      Thanks

      Jakub

MDT 2012 - Windows ADK Issue

If this is the wrong place, let me first apologize but I am curious is anyone has seen the following issue when installing MDT 2012 Update 1 and Windows ADK:

After installing MDT 2012 Update 1 and Windows ADK, I am unable to create a share in the Deployment Workbench, all I get is the box telling me:

Either the Windows Automated Installation Kit(AIK) or the Assessment and Deployment Kit(ADK) is required for interacting with deployment shares. Please install version 6.1.7600.0 or later.

I setup a new laptop (Lenovo x220 with Windows 7 Pro x64) to use and installed MDT 2012 Update 1 and then did the full install of the ADK (including SQL 2012 Express) and it does not work.

I can open the Windows System Image Manager from the ADK and create a share and do everything without issue but I cannot do anything from the Deployment Workbench as it only says that the AIK or ADK is required.

I tried installing on a Windows 8 Pro  x64 machine as well and get the same error so I am inclined to think I am missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks.

      Hello,

I am currently trying to install windows7 on a HP Elitebook 820 through PXE.

What happens is that after the first restart attempt, after disk partition and applying windows 7 image and drivers i get error: File: ifM63x64.sys

       Status: 0xc0000098

Info: Cannot start Windows because of file missing or corrupt.

Anyone got an idea? The file "ifM63x64.sys" is the "Intel Ethernet FCoE Virtual Storport Miniport Driver".

I have tried both with and without that driver in my driver package for that machine model with same result.

Windows 10 Edge Taskbar & USMT

      Hey guys,

      I have the following scenario:
We reinstall devices from Windows 7 to Windows 10 using USMT.
In Windows 10 by default the Edge Browser is pinned to taskbar for new users.
Since Internet Explorer is (still) our default browser, it is necessary to remove Edge from TaskBar.
To resolve this requirement I came accross the following blog post which works very well: http://ccmexec.com/2015/12/customizing-the-taskbar-in-windows-10-during-osd/
A RunOnce key is written into default user profile to execute action for removing edge from taskbar and placing IE instead.

Unfortunately this RunOnce action is applied even when a userprofile was migrated with USMT.
(I did not even know that even when USMT is performed the default user settings are applied..)

My question now is if there is any possibility to check if the current users profile was migrated via USMT so that I can extend the script?

      Thanks

      Hey,

I created Windows 10 USMT package.
This package contains the same xml files like I do with Windows 7 USMT package.

The USMT files are captured on a Windows 7 machine and restored on Windows 10.
All files and settings are migrated correctly...Except the Windows wallpaper.
From Windows 7 to Windows 7 it is working without any problems.

I already found a thread describing the same thing - but since we are not using UE-V I do not think this is the cause.T

      Thanks for any help

      Suspend SCCM task sequence

I am planning to give the offline task sequence ISO to the hardware vendor to install the OS.In between the task sequence i am planning to add suspend task sequence command so all activities which are network independent can be done from their side.Once the machine is shipped to office field engineer can resume the task sequence which covers the network dependent actions.

I know in MDT there is a option to suspend the task sequence.Administrator can login and click on resume icon in the desktop.

But how this can be achieved in SCCM 2012 since SCCM uses System context to install the OS ? can we achieve through any scripts ?

      Question

1, is there any official blog which tell using "install.wim" directly from CD is supported method instead of using build and capture image?

      Greetings!

We've been doing in-place upgrade from Windows 7 virtual desktops to Windows 10 using a task sequence which was working until yesterday. The last time I tried, it failed with error code "0x00000A58" and I haven't tried to run the same task sequence on another machine yet.

Could anyone shed some light on the reason for this error?

      Following is the error that I see in the SMSTS.log;

The execution of the group (Upgrade the Operating System) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed.
Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source: Windows)

Failed to run the last action: Recover from Setup Failure. Execution of task sequence failed.

      Please advise!

      Hi,

I am planning to use PPKG in Windows 10 task sequence to add customization to Windows settings. Please help me with below query

1, Is it supported to add PPKG in MDT task sequence ?

Help!!!!  "the specified UNC path does not contain a valid WIM file or you do not have permission to access it. please specify a valid path" I get this when I try to add operating system Image from SCCM R2 console. Tried many troubleshooting steps from variuos forums but nothing helped in fact.

Steps of troubleshooting done so far :

      1.  Removed ADK 8.1 and installed 8.0

2.Re-checked all permission given to the shared folder. All good. Note that I'm logged in with Doamin Admin account

      3. As per some blog the share path length can also creates this issue. So  I reduced the length of shared path by copying the content to C:\Win7\Source\Install.wim. Still no luck.

      Since a week I'm struck.. :-(

Server OS : Server 2008 R2. Domain, DHCP and SCCM all are in single server

SCCM 2012 Deployment - CIAgent Error (Installing Old Unavailable Revision)

We're having some issues with deploying a particular application, it's installed on around 200 or so machines but 250 are also error'd.

Upon investigation the error CIAgentJob::VersionInfoTimedOut and upon investigation of the 'requiredapplication' it is the particular package we're having issues with.  The error goes on to say "version 7 not available" and when I check the revision history of the application it is version 8.

This is a standalone deployment and not part of a task sequence so the workarounds I've seen online aren't suited in this case.

Is there any way I can be sure the deployment is actually trying to deploy the correct and only available revision?

Problems with boot image and finding correct drivers for Dell machines

I have a little problem with Dell OptiPlex 7040 and finding the correct drivers for the storage. Machines re equipped with M.2/PCI-e NVME SSD drives. I have added latest Dell WinPE driver pack to my Windows 10 boot image but still no go. Everything works if I configure machines in legacy boot mode but that's not really an option.
