We recently upgraded to 2012 1016 and all of a sudden our clients are not showing in the console as client installed. It looks as if the SMSID is not being deleted in the database. Is anyone else experience an issue?

Windows 10 - missing Recovery partition in Task Sequence

$

0

Hello Technet! We are working on rolling out Windows 10 via SCCM Task Sequence and I just realized that we do not have Windows Recovery enabled because we did not capture/include the recovery partition in our build. We would really like to use this feature, especially because the WinRE environment is required for bitlocker 48-digit passwords.

Does anyone know of a good way to add the recovery partition to my task sequence? Or should I go back and re-capture both partitions at once with imagex ? What is the best way that people are including this new feature?

Windows 10 Upgrade 1607 - Error 0xC1800188 (-1048575720)

Hey,

We are getting following error "0xC1800118(-1048575720)” when we try to install 1607 on a 1511-client in Software Center. The Upgrade-deployment is set though a collection (Individual deployment type).

This is what we have done so far:

- Confirmed that "KB3159706" is installed on the Wsus server - https://support.microsoft.com/sv-se/kb/3159706

- Deleted the upgrade package from Configmgr.

- Followed following instructions - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3194588

Got about 480 so it was in a bad state, but now it's all down to 0.

-Re-downloaded it and deployed it again, but no luck. Also tried to install it on a newly installed client.

Some related information about the environment:

SCCM Version 1602

WSUS  Role - The Primary SCCM server.

This is the collected logs from the client from "c:\Windows.~BT", the "setupact"-log was to long to post here.

OSD Task Sequence fails with "There are no task sequences available for this computer"

$

Let me preface this by saying that I have read at least 100 forum posts with people having similar issues. However, none of the solutions in those posts have worked for me.

The Problem: SCCM 2012 R2 will not image unknown computers. The task sequence gives the error "There are no task sequences available for this computer." As soon as that error occurs, SCCM places an Unknown entry into the All Systems collection. I have been imaging unknown computers, without fail, for 4 months and no environmental changes have been made. NOTE: I am using USB media, not PXE.

What I've Tried:

  • Checked for duplicate SMSBIOS GUIDS in the console, none.
  • Checked for duplicate MAC Addresses in the console, none.
  • Checked for expired certificates, none.
  • Recreated Boot Media, twice.
  • Deleted the Unknown entry and retried, SCCM just recreates the Unknown entry.
  • Deleted all of my task sequence deployments, and then redeployed them each to All Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE) and to Unknown Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE)
    • I have also ran the following in the SQL Server Management Studio;
      • SELECT*FROM ResPolicyMapWHERE machineid= 0 andPADBIDIN(SELECT PADBIDFROMPolicyAssignmentWHEREBodyHash ISNULL)
        • No result
      • Select*From vMacAddressesWhere MacAddresses='00:00:00:00:00:00'
        • This displays an entry for every time that I have tried to image the unknown machine attached to the MAC Address with a different ItemKey and SMS_Unique_Identifier for each entry.
    • Added the machine manually using Import Computer Information, immediately recognized the Task Sequences that I have advertised to the All Systems collection.

Any and all assistance is welcome, I am going on the third straight day of dead ends. Below I have tried my best to post the entire SMSTS Log;

SCCM will not install OS on new HDD Error code 0x800700A1

I am running tests with OSD deploy to one of my sites.  The task sequence has reimaged 10 other devices without incident.  When the on site technician attempted to install the OS on a new endpoint device with a new unpartitioned Fresh hard disk using the same task sequence that worked for the reimage it failed with error code 0x800700A1.  I did some research and found that this error occurs on SCCM for fresh disks.  However, the only solutions I've found state that I should either format the disk before running the task sequence (this isn't a feasible answer.) or to ensure nothing is being attached to the drive before the drive is partitioned in the task sequence.  I have checked the task sequence and the only step before partitioning is restart in windows PE.  What do I need to do to correct this error?

Can't create Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Files package

Hi,

I'm having difficulties lining up the version of SCCM with all of the pre-requisites to make OSD function properly.

Currently I'm running; ConfMgr 2012 SP2 + MDT 2013 U1 + ADK 10.

I thought I had it all lined up, but now I'm getting this issue creating a MDT Task sequence that I can't seem to get passed. I don't have an existing Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Files package, and it won't let me create one. See picture below. Any thoughts? Is there a document or a matrix that says for a given version of SCCM you need this version of MDT and ADK to be able to image Windows 7 or 8.1 or 10, etc.?

Windows 10 and Powershell Commands in OSD

$

I'm starting to develop a Windows 10 task sequence, and want to do things like:

Add Computer serial number to AD description field during task sequence

Move computer to different OU during task sequence

I'm trying to standardize on using powershell as much as possible, I realize there are vbscripts that do some of what I need.

Is there any way short of installing RSAT for Win10 on my build to accomplish these AD tasks?  I don't want to install it on every build, do what I need to do, then uninstall it at end of TS, easy enough but just seems messy.  leaving on every build seems like a bad idea too.

Just looking for a more elegant solution.

Thanks

Tony

Build and Capture Issue with Office 2016.

I have done a build and capture with Office 2013, Office 365 v15 and v16 but when I add in a package for Office 2016 the build and capture fails on office every time. I have run through the errors in the SMSTS.log, Adding in retries to download the package, also adding in a 1min delay before the install but still have the problem. if I switch back to a different office product the install and build works faultlessly. Anyone else had similar issues?

SCCM 2012 / Windows 10 1607 Build and Capture Apply Updates Step not applying

$

Hi All,

I am having an issue getting my build and capture to apply any updates at all.  I've never had issues with this in the past so it's being particularly frustrating.

I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 R2 CU3 and Capturing Windows 10 1607.

My capture sequence is pretty basic.  It  does the following;

Applies OS WIM
Installs SCCM Client (points to MP)
Joins Workgroup
Installs Office 2016
Installs runtimes
Applies Updates (3 apply updates steps with a scan step in between each)
Captures

Unfortunately, the applies update step is just skipping through (no failure) and going straight to capture.

The message in the Updates log is "no current service window available to run updates = 1".

The updates step works in the deploy task sequence, but I'd rather include it in the captured WIM to cut down time.

I am capturing on a VM that I have manually imported to a collection.  I have targeted a Software Update Group at this collection, set to required and after deadline ignore maintenance windows.

As far as I can tell there are no upper level maintenance windows affecting this collection.

The MP is defined in the client install properties and the MS Office Application (not package) installs fine, so i'm assuming it's not an issue finding the MP.

Has anyone else had this issue or can point me in the right direction?  We are beginning our Pilot phase shortly and the lack of the latest Office updates means that OneDrive for business isn't working correctly.

I feel like it's something simple that I've missed that I'd normally do.

As usual, much appreciated.

Additions to device collection taking several hours at site location

Hello all.  I am working with a new site.  The DP is in place and we have successfully tested OSD deployment.  However, we have noticed that when we add a new device to SCCM and to the device collection, it can take almost 5 hours before those changes take place on the local DP at the site.  The onsite tech attempts to run the OSD install after I report that the device is now a part of the collection, however when he does he gets an abortpxe.  Several hours later, he will use the same device and it will run with no issues.  This is the only site I've had this issue with, the others happen pretty quickly.  Any ideas?

"System Cannot Open the File" Error When Trying to Copy a File in Task Sequence

$

0

Hey Guys -

Got a weird issue that's driving me nuts.  Should be a simple task, but must be missing something obvious.  I have a task sequence which performs many steps including site-specific ones which have conditions based on registry strings or existing files.  The TS is evaluating the condition correctly, but it fails to execute the step.

The step is a basic "Run command line" step with the string:

md.exe /c xcopy ".\ILE\ILE Client Properties Test.properties" "C:\MCK\ILE\Client\” /y /i

The goal of the step is to copy the file "ILE Client Properties Test.properties" from a folder named "ILE" inside the root of the source package.  It is to be copied into "C:\MCK\ILE\Client", result in the filename "client.properties”, and overwrite the existing one.

Below are some of the relevant lines from the smsts.log...

The condition for the action (Copy TEST Client Properties Diff) is evaluated to be true

Expand a string: smsswd.exe /run:AHS002BA cmd.exe /c xcopy ".\ILE\ILE Client Properties Test.properties" "C:\MCK\ILE\Client\” /y /i

Start executing the command line: smsswd.exe /run:AHS002BA cmd.exe /c xcopy ".\ILE\ILE Client Properties Test.properties" "C:\MCK\ILE\Client\” /y /i

Process completed with exit code 4

Parse Error

Command line returned 4

Failed to run the action: Copy TEST Client Properties Diff.
The system cannot open the file. (Error: 00000004; Source: Windows)

To try to fix this, I've tried the following:

- Same string without ".\" before the source file

- Created a new package with the "ILE" folder as the root.  After distribution, changed the step to associate to the new package then removed "ILE\" from the string

The string executes successfully when executed manually within a command prompt.

Note: Yes, it would probably make it a bit easier to have the source and target filename be the same name.  Since this is a site-specific step, there are about a dozen such steps each with a different condition and different source filename in the string but all source files are in the same folder in the same package and are to be copied to the workstation resulting in the filename "client.properties."

What am I missing?  Thanks!

OSD - Mcafee Encryption to Bitlocker Task Sequence (Missing operating system)

$

I know this isn't supported, but I am curious if anyone else has run into this.

We're doing a WinXP > 7 Migration.  Current Machines are Encrypted with Mcafee Encryption, and we're wanting to go to Bitlocker

As of Right now we can not use USB or PXE boot, so in our testing we're advertising the Task sequence to Clients as available.

So this is what happens.

Kickoff OSD from logged in user.

USMT Captures Data succesfully to SMP

Run Mcafee command line tools to unlock/hide/etc Encryption

Reboots to WinPe. (Ram drive)

Diskpart command cleans drive. (Encryption should be gone now, right)

Drive is partition / formatted

OS is downloaded and applied

Reboots (Missing Operating System)

I think something with MBR is screwed up and Mcafee EEPC is not allowing it to be overwritten or something.

I've tried every combination for bcdedit/bootrec etc to attempt to restore the Win7 MBR.

Has anyone ever gone through this?

Thanks in advance..

Create offline media error when adding a specific package.

Hi all,

I’m having a few problems with a package when trying to create some offline media.

For some reason SCCM is failing to download app content for an offline media ISO I’m trying to make, specifically a Citrix application which works perfectly when deploying normally.

The media creates successfully when I remove this from the application list in the task sequence – as in other applications install just fine.

Anyone have any idea why SCCM is having trouble with this one?

Hello everyone,

I want to install the HP Elite X2 Tablet with the SCCM OSD using PXE boot. I am using the HP USB C Dock. After I select the boot from IPv4 the device starts loading the boot files. But as soon as the files are loaded I get this error:

_________________________________

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the Problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. click "Repair your computer."

If you dont have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Windows\System32\boot\winload.efi

Status: 0xc0000359

Info: The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

Does someone have any idea?

Note:

If I use the x86 Boot Image, I get the error message above, but if I use the x64 Boot Image the device just restarts after I start the boot from the IPv4 network adapter.

Status Filter Rule not applying on OSD Success

Hi Guys,

I just ran into a problem with creating Status Filter Rules. I have a script, that is working nicely when I run it manually, but when it comes to the point, that I add it to status filter rules nothing happens at that step.

It is checking MessageID: 11171, and the Advertisment ID of the Task Sequence

And I am calling it like this:

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -File C:\Service\Scripts\VPNGroup.ps1 %msgsys

The script is adding the computer to a Group in active directory, you can find it bellow:

Any ideas are appretiated.

Forcing Domain OU selection in SCCM 2012 R2 UDI

$

We have added various domain OU to our UDI so that a newly imaged machine will join the correct OU during imaging. However, I can't figure out how to make OU selection required. When left as the default, it will select the top OU in the list. I've added a blank line at the top with "Make a selection" as the "Friendly name". If someone does not select an OU (leaving it on "Make a selection") the computer will join the domain Computers OU.

SCCM Task Sequence Failing to Find Policy on Second Distribution Point

$

Hi All,

I'm having trouble running a task sequence at our second site. We currently have two locations which we're attempting to refresh, our main offices and a satellite group. I've created a task sequence which has been successfully deployed at our main site via PXE, though this fails when I try to replicate at our second site.

The second site uses another distribution point to alleviate any link load, and I can get as far as the task sequence password prompt. From there, the machine is "looking for policy", after which the sequence fails (0x80004005). I know that's a very generic error code so I apologise. I've tried a few different fixes for this. I've looked at certificates, I've re-distributed content to the second DP, I've checked to see if there are duplicate GUIDs or issues with the machine itself.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm starting to think it may be to do with the separate IP subnets or boundaries, but I can't be sure as I'm not hugely experienced with SCCM.

Thanks,

Dusty.
