Image will not update invariant language

$

I am running 2012R2 and have 5 OS image, 2 for Win7, 2 for Win 8.1 and one for a specific tablet.  I can do a scheduled update injection on 4 of them without issue, the 64 bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise one is not even giving me the option to schedule updates, it is greyed out.  The only thing I can see that is different is that the image has Invariant Language (invariant country) listed next to the language on the summary.  The rest have English (united states).  I captured these the same way so I am not sure where that is coming from.  I have done searches for the issue and I am finding nothing, the only partially relevant result is on this forum with a boot image and VMWare.

I should mention that I built the image using HyperV and captured it using DISM, but I did the exact same thing with the 32 bit version of Win8.1 Enterprise and it is fine. The image does apply perfectly fine if I deploy it.

Many SCCM MDT Integration Questions

We are currently deploying SCCM 2012 R2 and probably MDT 2013. We are migrating from a non-SCCM environment.

So after some reading I still have plenty of questions I hope someone could help me out with:

1. The MDT 2013 documentation "Quick Start Guide for System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager" makes no mention whatsoever of the MDT database, which appears to be an important feature of standalone MDT. Is configuration of this DB recommended/desired for SCCM integrated environments?

2. Beyond deployment monitoring, are there any features that I would need to configure through MDT Deployment Workbench in an SCCM-integrated environment?

3. Are only ZTI and UDI install methods available in an SCCM-integrated environment? Is LTI standalone-MDT-only?

4. Can MDT and the Console Extensions be installed on any site system? It is not required to be on the site server itself is it? I realize the console extensions require the console, but am curious if there are any other requirements for installation. I was thinking of installing MDT on a dedicated site system server for a little broader access to the deployment monitoring features for junior admins. This system could also have http (we use https elsewhere) MP and DP roles to make build and capture a little easier. Does that sound like a reasonable idea?

Thanks very much for any help.

SCCM 2012 R2: PXE on different server, which WIM to use?

Hi,

We have SCCM 2012 R2, however the PXE is a different (existing) server from which we deploy os-es already.
We'd like to deploy also SCCM 2012 R2 images by importing the WIM to this PXE-server (which is not the SCCM 2012 R2-server).

This are the boot images, correct? If so, any special recommandations to do this import?

J.

Install Updates step fails in Build and Capture (error code 87D00272)

Hello,

I was really hoping someone could help me with this.

Background information:
- We have a CM07 server in a production environment.
- I've set up a CM12 RTM server, following the guides in this forum, with the hopes of migrating soon.
- I wanted to do OSD from scratch to learn more and to take advantage of new features in CM12.
- I have a few virtual machines running for testing OSD/apps (these are the only clients managed by my CM12 server).
- Since it's not possible to have two WDS servers running at the same time AFAIK (without using registry tweaks, the F11 trick, that by the way doesn't work for me) I have created a bootable TS media that I mount on the virtual machines whenever I want to test OSD.

Now, to my problem:

I can't figure out why my Build and Capture TS is failing on the Install Software Updates step. smsts.log file says: Failed to RefreshUpdates, hr=087d00272, followed by: Failed to run the action: Install Software Updates. Component is disabled (Error: 87D00272; Source: CCM). I have read about similar issues occurring in CM07 capture task sequences since the machine is joined to a Workgroup. The proposed solution was adding SMSSLP=FQDN to the client installation properties, but since that functionality is moved to the MP in CM12, it should be enough to specify SMSMP=FQDN in my case. It's not working anyway. Tried it to a Deploy TS also, where the machine is domain joined, but I got the same error.

The error code 87D00272 returns no results on Google. This stumps me, as someone surely has had the same problem? Here are the relevant portions of the smsts.log file

If someone had the chance to look at this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Deploy Win7 task sequence fails during OS apply?

Hi folks,

I've recently installed SCCM 2012 R2 (first time user), and ran a Build and Capture task sequence successfully.
I now created a deploy existing image task sequence and it fails during Applying OS part of task sequence.

I noticed when I collected the smsts.log from the client (VM), I had lost my IP address.  I was able to renew it, but maybe has something to do with failure?

Created my task sequence like this.

http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/02/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part_18.html

I've attached pics of errors in log and configuration.

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks,

romatlo

Unable to deploy OS using SCCM 2012 R2

I'm trying to deploy Win 7 using PXE with SCCM 2012 R2 to a new vm with no OS.  After booting to PXE I receive error:

PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.  Operating System not found

The Build and Capture Task Sequence has been deployed to "All Unknown Computers"

In the SMSPXE.log I see entries for the MAC of the vm with the following info:

No advertisements found.

No boot action.  Rejected.

Not serviced.

Is it possible to stop/pause a task sequence.....to be restarted at a later date?

I am working to build a task sequence for a mass POS terminal roll-out. We are leveraging a drive copier to do most of the leg work. However I want to consistently be able to build drives that are copied. Is it possible during your task sequence to stop and shutdown.....and then pull the drive out of one machine and plug it into another and restart the task sequence? These would be identical machines/terminals. My objective is that when the task sequence stops/pauses and the reference machine shuts down - I could then copy the drive numerous times and have the task sequence restart after the drive is plugged into a new terminal? Is the resolution something as simple as inserting a shutdown command where I want to stop the task sequence and then it would pick back up upon being powered back on? Any direction would be much appreciated.

Dirvers to Boot Image, now cannot edit/distribute Boot Images. SCCM 2012 R2

I tried to add a bunch of NIC drivers to the boot images. Now when I click on properties of the boot image I get "Failed to Query for Drivers". When I click details I get "Quota Violation".  When I try to update the distribution points it also fails with "Failed to inject a ConfigMgr driver into the mounted WIM file".  Anyway get the boot images working again.  I have recreated new boot images but I would like to get the build in ones working again if I can.

Thanks!

Could Not Create WMI Locator Class (0x80040154)

Hi all,

Attempting OSD of Windows 8.1 x64 from SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3.  Windows 7 OSD works fine from the same box.

I get the following in smsts.log:

Could not create WMI locator class (80040154) TSPxe 1/8/2014 10:06:17 824 (0x0338)

spNamespace.Open(c_szCIMv2Namespace), HRESULT=80040154 (e:\qfe\nts\sms\framework\tscore\tspolicy.cpp,605) TSPxe 1/8/2014 10:06:17 824 (0x0338)

Failed to connect to WMI namespace \\.\ROOT\CIMV2 (Code 0x80040154) TSPxe 1/8/2014 10:06:17 824 (0x0338)

First, I made sure that WMI is enabled in the boot image.  It is, and it has been redistributed etc.  see here:

http://imgur.com/UzAryjL

I did some research on the issue and saw several posts stating that SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 doesn't actually support editing of Win8.1 boot images.  But, um, everything shows just fine in the dialog box above; I was able to add all the components without issue.  Is SCCM fooling me?  What's going on here?

Thanks

We have recieved new Lenovo T440s laptops. I have added all the drivers from their website into SCCM.

Question, Would I need to add the NIC drivers to the Boot Image in order to get PXE to work on this machine?

I don't know what going on and its only with this new series of laptops.

Optional applications selected via UDI interface and stand alone media

I'm running SCCM 2012 sp1 with MDT integration.   I'm using a UDI from MDT to set some basic machine informatoin for imaging (select the OU in the domain, etc).  I also have some optional apps that a tech can select from the UDI to install during the TS.

All is working great with network based installations.  However, I have a need for some installations using stand alone media.  Is there a way to create stand alone media that will include those optional apps in the MDT UDI so that those apps can install during the TS?   I don't think there is, but there are more brilliant minds than mine out there so I thought I would ask.  Maybe there's a way to generate stand alone media via a PS script or something, and have it include the additional packages so they are on the media and can be called via the TS when it runs.

Thanks!

DaRT 7 / Windows 7 OSD and BitLocker - Prompt for Recovery Key!

Apologies as this is a duplicate of a post in the DaRT/MDOP forum - however this forum looks unfrequented.

I have been testing DaRT 7 / Windows 7 and DaRT 8.1 / Windows 8.1 deployment via SCCM recently and have run into an issue with the DaRT 7 / Windows 7 deployment in relation to BitLocker. Deployment tool is SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3. Task Sequence is as-per the DaRT Evaluation/Administration guides - a new partition is created by shrinking the OS drive, then the image is copied to this partition and the reagent commands are run to enable the use of the new image.

The DaRT image is deployed as expected, and works as expected for non-BitLockered machines, i.e. Virtual Machines. For physical, thus encrypted machines, I am being prompted for a BitLocker recovery key after the reboot that follows the DaRT image deployment/reagent commands during the Task Sequence.

TS steps as follows:

  1. Partition Drive
  2. Pre-provision BitLocker
  3. Deploy OS image
  4. Apply WIndows Settings
  5. Setup Windows and Configutration Manager
  6. DaRT Deployment/Configuration
  7. Enable BitLocker

I have also tested this with removal of the pre-provision BitLocker step, and we're still being prompted for the BitLocker Recovery Key after enabling BitLocker and a subsequent reboot during the Task sequence. TS now as follows:

  1. Partition Drive
  2. Deploy OS image
  3. Apply Windows Settings
  4. Setup Windows and Configutration Manager
  5. DaRT Deployment/Configuration - includes repartitioning/copy winre.wim/reagentc commands
  6. Enable BitLocker

The first Task Sequence (with pre-provision) works with Windows 8.1 / DaRT 8.1 without issue.Am I missing something obvious?

Enable 8dot3name in a task sequence using WinPE 4.0?

Hi all,

I'm using CM2012 with SP1 to deploy Windows 7 with SP1, and I need to enable the 8.3 file & folder names in the file system.  I know I have to do this right at the beginning immediately after the format step.

I know MS have recently changed the 8.3 names to be disabled by default, as outlined here: http://scug.be/sccm/2013/01/15/configmgr-2012-sp1-the-8dot3name-settings-are-disabled-on-the-volumes-upon-partitioning-and-formatting-of-the-local-disk/

I hope my question is a simple one.

What files do I need to create an fsutil package (or what components to I need to add to my WinPE image) in order to be able to run the "fsutil 8dot3name set 0" command.

I've already attempted to create the package myself by copying the fsutil.dll and fsutil.exe files from C:\Windows\System32 on a Windows 8 machine, but when I execute it in WinPE 4.0, I get the error "Unable to format message for id 400002710 - 13d".  I thought I'd then get sleuthy and use procmon to monitor what dll's fsutil.exe calls from the command prompt on a fully built workstation, then I copied all those DLL's, but alas, I still get the same error.

According to that link above, "Steve' (in the comments) has created a package. My comment on there is awaiting moderation, so in lieu of that I thought I would also ask here incase someone has done this before.

Likewise, if fsutil isn't the best way to do this from WinPE 4.0, but someone has a powershell/vbscript that does the same thing - please post up here.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Build and Capture Task Sequence does not install NIC drivers even though they have been injected into boot image

Hello,

I have been trying to solve this problem all day. I am trying to run a Build and Capture Task Sequence over PXE, and the computer is exiting the task sequence at the point where it is trying to capture the image with the error code 0x8007002.

After some research I have discovered that at that this is a network error. After the task sequence failed I have ran the commandipconfig /all which has shown me that the Local Area Connection adapter doesn't exist. Looking in device manager confirms that the driver for the ethernet controller is missing.

I have "injected' the correct network driver by right clicking on the Boot Image and selecting Properties, then selecting the driver I have added.

I have confirmed that this network driver is correct by installing it onto the test device after it has failed the task sequence by using the command devmgmt.msc and finding the hardware device and installing the driver off a flash drive. Although the task sequence did not continue I was able to verify that I could now get an IP.

Relevant sections of the smsts.log file:

The entire smsts.log file can be viewed at this link (it was too big to post here): http://pastebin.com/w6XMatAF

Does anyone know why this issue is occurring and how to solve it?

Thanks.

Hi Guys, wanna ask, Im doing OSD and im having problem now to boot to Windows PE. When i boot, i can see the SCCM 2012 wallpaper background. Then a small window at the center saying that Initializing Windows PE. After a few seconds, it dissapears and it restarts the machines and load back the existing OS. My site system server (DP server) is running on Server 2012 which is also the DHCP and WDS server. Im stuck a few weeks on this and dont know what is the issue. Whats the log to see for fail booting to WinPE? Below are the settings i did:

DHCP
Set below options
066 Boot Server Host Name = SCCM DP ip address
067 Bootfile Name = boot\x86\wdsnbp.com

WDS

PXE Response – checked “Respond to all client computers (known and unknown)”
Boot – checked “Require the user to press the F12 key to continue the PXE boot” for both known and unknown clients
DHCP – Only check “Do not listen on DHCP ports”. The “Configure DHCP options to indicate that this is also a PXE server” is unchecked.
TFTP – Maximum Block size set to 0 and checked “Enable Variable Windows Extension”
Advanced – Under Domain Controller, checked “Allow WDS to dynamically discover valid domain servers”

Boot Images
Installed x86 and x64 boot images to the DP’s
Included network drivers for each laptop model
Under Data Source tab, checked “Deploy this boot image from the PXE-enabled distribution point”

Site system server DP role

Under Distribution Point role properties, under PXE tab, selected below settings

Enable PXE support for clients
Allow this DP to respond to incoming PXE requests
Enable unknown computer support
Require a password when computer use PXE
