Hi all our PXE is not working anymore after upgrading from sccm2012 to sccm2012sp1.

What our problem is that a pc boots in the new windows8 WinPe but then after configuring network connections it reboots again. (it doest seem a driver related issue because the network card is found and we get an ipaddress)

Our environment consists of 2 windows 2008 r2 servers one is the cas and the other one a primary site server, and pxe is installedon our primary site server.

I already tried enabling dotnet v4 on our sccm dp server and also I removed the pxe option and added it again but still the same issue.

This is perhaps a difficult question,

As you know Configuration manager has a checkbox for choice in its GUI called “Skip files that use the Encrypting File System (EFS). This forces only one of 2 options:

Checked              /efs:skip
Unchecked         /efs:copyraw

Question is. Is there anyway to get scanstate to use either /efs:abort or /efs:decryptcopy?

When I use osdmigrateadditionalcaptureoptions, the setting gets overwritten.

I am running OSD to upgrade xp to win7 from the xp OS. At another site the image deployed correctly. USMT runs then it reboots to winpe, formats the drive, installs windows ect......

Now im at another site and running the same TS but when the systems reboot to winpe I get the BSOD with iastors.sys 0xc000035a.

I went to Dells site and grabbed the WinPE 5.0 drivers and installed into my boot image. No change though same error. This is on a Dell 990. Same system type we were able to deploy to at the other site sucsessfully.

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 + MDT 2012... I created a standard MDT client task deployment to deploy a Windows 7 SP1 WIM image.

WIM image is properly deployed, then computer is joined to the domain but OSD stops at the stage of ConfigMgr client installation.

1. When I have a look to the smsts.log ,I can see ConfigMgr package is downloaded from the DP to the local system on the E: drive.

2. If I connect to the system, I can see  in fact the files are still physically stored in : F:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\CTL00001, and also in F:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\CTL00001

3. However later in the smsts.log, I can see an error "Failed to find client install directory 'D:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\CTL00001"

Could someone please explain what is going on, and I can fix it ?

After the new year - I get back and find out WDS is missing from the SCCM server. I have tried many things and I am at the end, not sure what else I can try!

-uninstalled Windows assessment 8.1

-removed all boot images

-rebooted, installed Windows assessment 8.1, rebooted, imported default boot.wim, configured them be used with pxe, enabled pxe on the SCCM DP.

-Manually tried to install WDS, failed with the same error message (0x80070643)

What's odd is it seems like SCCM thinks PXE is up and running according to distmgr.log When I enable PXE on the DP, I get this:

Not sure if it's related or not but I am unable to install IE10 or KB2670838. The update goes, says all is well, server reboots, configures itself and then failed, reverts, reboots two times and comes back up with failed updates.

I have run chkdsk /r /f, sfc /scannow - all reporting back clean.

I thought maybe it was .net 3.5 related, I uninstalled Windows Process Activation Services, tried installing updates, WDS, same issue. They all fail. Installed the latest .net 4.5.1 as well, same issue. Didn't help.

I fired up a backup from October and WDS was running on that, so it was working a few months back. Event viewer says it was working all the way up to Jan 2, 2014 and then the WDS events stop. It's like WDS got uninstalled or deleted and never to be heard from again.

WDS Error on the day it 'left' was WDSIMGSRV Event ID 258.

The description for Event ID 258 from source WDSIMGSRV cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

I know there are two things here, a few updates (ie10 that cannot be installed) and WDS failing to come back up but I have a sneaky feeling they are related somehow. If one starts to work, they both do?

Server is Windows 2008 R2 SP1, hosted on a ESXi 5.1 box, VMNICs are intel based.

For our Windows 8.1 deployment using SCCM 2012 R2, the task sequences to apply the OS and install the CCM agent are successful, but not when it gets to the Install Application task sequence.  Initially, we had ticked "If an application installation fails, continue installing other applications in the list", but it managed to install none of the applications, so we ticked it to generate an error. See the smsts.log below from the C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\SMSTS folder.  What other logs can we check ?  Thanks

I'm not sure if what we're trying to do is even possible, but I am hoping it is.  I wrote a little script to check the BIOS asset tag info and if it isn't a valid numeric number it prompts in the task sequence to enter the correct asset tag number.  We're trying to do this so we have it on a custom SCCM report for inventory tracking.  The problem is the Acer utility is 16-bit and it kicks back an error in WinPE saying thatyou don't have access to run 16-bit applications and to check your permissions with your system admin.  Where does WinPE store these permissions?  I know where they are in GPO's but not for SCCM's WinPE.

I can't find an Dart 8.1 specific version of the following document: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj713341.aspx - however changes to the Winpeshl.ini do not seem to work as outlined for DaRT 8.0 - in order to automatically start netstart.exe and RemoteRecovery.exe:

Has anyone been able to get Winpeshl.ini working with DaRT 8.1?

If I launch winpeinit.exe / winpeshl.exe from command prompt inside the DaRT image the commands under LaunchApps are executed, so the commands are fine.

As an aside, the WinRE image is deployed locally in a dedicated partition, as per the DaRT 8.1 Deployment Guide.

Ok, so I've searched this time through articles and they all pertain to 2007 - When trying to deploy an OS, Multicast is turned on, but I get the dreaded hash error.  If I turn multicast off, It works fine... not a logical solution.  I have verified with network that the switches all have multicast turned on.  I've deleted the image, re-added it and redeployed it countless times.  Still same issue.  The size of the image is 3.06 mb, so well under the 4mb issues that were in 2007.  I've also gone as far as recreating the image from scratch, and still no luck.

Any ideas? This is 2012 SCCM.

We are currently using SCCM 2012 SP1/MDT 2012 Update 1 to deploy Windows 7, and to migrate existing XP installs to Windows 7 (using the offline USMT functionality in MDT).  We are moving forward with Windows 8.1, and understand that we need to upgrade our SCCM infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2/MDT 2013.  We also understand that this will cause us to lose the ability to migrate XP machines, since MDT 2013 uses a newer version of USMT that doesn’t support XP.

What do we need to do to continue to support our XP migrations, and enable deployments of Windows 8.1?

Can we have two SCCM servers in the same Site running different versions of SCCM? Do we need a separate site? 

Running SCCM 2012 sp1.   When advertising a task sequence to software center, even if it's not an OSD task sequence, Software Center brings up a nice little warning about installing an Operating System before it kicks of the TS.

Is there a way to modify this warning so if I'm sending a TS that isn't an OSD, it doesn't freak the user out that I'm going to install a new OS?

I have 1 CM2012 Primary server and 1 workstation that has the CM client.  both are in vSphere 5.x


I followed the Windows-Noob doc on how to create a Build and Capture TS in CM2012.  part of this is to deploy the boot images out to your DP which I did.  I PXE boot up and enter the OSD password.  Once I click Next it immediately says "this task sequence cannot be run because the program files for ABC00003 cannot be located on a distribution point."

Now the funny part is the boot image IS on the DP.  I have the REMOTEINSTALL folder and the boot image is there.   

The SMSTS.LOG file just says:

Failed to resolve selected task sequence dependencies.  code(0x80040102)

I am trying to execute powershell scripts in an SCCM 2012 task sequence. I have created a package containing my scripts and I am referencing that package in the run command line step. All scripts have been tested and confirmed that they work via the same command line that I am attempting to run in the TS. I have also verified that the package has been successfully updated on the DP. This is the error code I am receiving is 0xC0000135. I wasn't able to find much info on that error code. Here is how my task sequence looks that I am using for testing. Presently I am testing as a standalone TS. Any Guidance would be appreciated. Regards



We are running SCCM 2012 R2. I am currently unable to pass the "Apply Operating System" phase of any Build and Capture or Install task sequence. I  have repeated every step in the process multiple times all the way back to downloading the VL media from Microsoft. The issue occurs on physical and virtual systems, and occurs whether I re-capture new .wims (using capture media) or use extracted install.wim files. There does not appear to be a global access issue because I can see that much of the image directory structure is being laid down, ie c:\windows, c:\users, etc. However, it always fails on the same file according to the log. If I recapture and try with a new wim, it will always fail on a different file. The files it fails on are always in the same directory, c:\windows\winsxs. I can't get past this step.

Does anyone else have this problem, the package in question is Adobe CS 5.5, this package as worked for years all of a sudden the OSD, gives waiting for job status notification and hangs forever on the installation of Adobe CS 5.5

If I run the batch file manually that I am using in the SCCM package for Adobe CS 5.5 it works perfectly, but when part of an OSD I now get waiting for job status notification.

Any advice would be great.

I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 environment and try to create a Build & Capture. I do not make changes to my task sequence and run it on a Virtual ESX VM. It randomly generates errors and once I see the TS complete succesfully.

What could cause the issue ?

SCCM 2012 server ? My VM client NIC ? Network ? Any ideas how to solve this ?

The error occurred as displayed in the log above is not the first log. The OS is already deployed, OS patches are  already installed and about 15 packages are already installed. Then randomly  I get those errors and different packages.

In my test lab my Win 7 OSD is working fine restoring user data with USMT hardlinking. As I started to test it on real machines in our test lab with real user profiles and data I started to see failures on some machines on the USMT data restore step. Below is a section from my LoadState.log file that stood out to me with fatal "out of memory exception" errors.

 Has anyone run into this issue before with USMT 4 ? Again in my test lab I see it restoring my profile fine but on machines with more profiles I have this problem.

Hello, I am deploying Windows 7 with a Task Sequence.  And all of my applications and client get installed, the only thing I am having issues with is getting the client to check in.   We have waited over 12 hours to see if it will finally check in and still nothing happens.  Here is the status of the workstation and the Task Sequence.

Workstation getting upgraded:

• Is a fully functional windows 7 machine with client working.  Name = LWS-123456
• Push the the image with PXE, boots and installs everything without errors.  Name = LWS-123456

Task Sequence:

• Restart in Windows PE
• Partition Disk
• Apply Operating System
• Apply Windows Settings
• Apply Network Settings
• Setup Windows and Configuration Manager
• Disable IPv6
• Standby Timeout None
• Disk Timeout None
• Display Timeout 180
• Disable Hibernate
• Disable Firewall

Any Ideas on where I am going wrong or what I am missing?

can I install endpoint protection  on  my home/personal laptop?

if yes, which version, and whats the link to download?

Here are the things that I would like to happen.

1. I should be able to have ANY laptops or desktops boot via network, then see the Windows 7 task sequence select and install the OS, drivers, programs. The computer name should all be "TEST" and not joined to the domain.

P.S

The reason why is because I don't want to have to know the MAC address of the computer every single time I deploy a task sequence.
