Choose Application as part of Build and Capture TS

$

Hi,

I am looking for a way to have a list of applications that I can choose from to include in master image as part of Build and Capture process. While building an image (Running Build and capture TS), I need a flexibility to choose from the application list as part of TS. In MDT I seen the option but I need some pointers around configuration manager 2012. Any pointers will be appreciate.

Task Sequence Fun (or maybe not): I know this TS OSD error is DP related, but... (unusual output for missing content)

$

My OSD task sequence just failed again, and without posting the irrelevant stuff, I have 100% reason to believe the following excerpt from the smsts.log is the cause of my OSD TS woes (read: the OSD TS won't complete):

Setting wizard error: This task sequence cannot be run because the program files for ScopeId_8838E705-367A-45DD-8757-ADE20FDB9163/ Application_038b6b36-c13f-4489-a64f-ff6ea2877382 cannot be located on a distribution point. For more information, contact your system administrator or helpdesk operator.

I know for certain this is a DP-related issue. On that note, most of the OSD TS errors that are DP-related usually have a package ID (e.g - A0000123) instead of a directory of "ScopeId_8838E705-367A-45DD-8757-ADE20FDB9163/ Application_038b6b36-c13f-4489-a64f-ff6ea2877382"(like I am encountering).

On that note, does anyone have a way of hunting down this content? Yes I tried doing a search on"ScopeId_8838E705-367A-45DD-8757-ADE20FDB9163" or "Application_038b6b36-c13f-4489-a64f-ff6ea2877382" on the DPs.

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!

SCEP Install and updates flakey during OSD install

I found the following post and have been using it to install SCEP for one of my clients.

http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2014/01/10/cheerios-gmo/

Can anyone point me to the  valid retun code values for each of the exes?

scepinstall.exe

mpam-fe.exe

nis_full.exe

It seems a value of 50 is being returned in the report Deployment status.

Is this a vaild way to update the SCEP client on machines that will not be added to the domain?

Hi,

We would like to have OSD logfiles in a central shared location instead on the pc itself.
This way we can find out issues without having to dig into the machine (when machine is down, blue screen ...).

ConfigMgr 2012 R2 Client Failes to Install on HP EliteBook laptops with Synaptics Touchpad drivers

$

I've come across a fairly frustrating issue that has been taking up way too much of my time that past week or so. The issue started a little after some of our larger sites were migrated from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012. I started getting complaints that one of our technical workstations (HP 8770w) was not deploying properly. I started investigating the issue and the problem involved the removal of the old ConfigMgr 2007 client and install of the new SCCM 2012 R2 client.

The Windows 7 x64 OS WIM that I am using is one that was migrated from the 07 to 2012 environment and it has been working fine. During the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step the old client is removed and the new one for the 2012 environment installs. There has not been any issues with this, but I feel something has changed now that we are deploying the 2012 R2 client.

Back to the issue, what happens is that the ConfigMgr client fails to uninstall the old client. Looking in the client.msi_uninstall file you will see that it is unable to locate a couple of SCCM 2007 configmgr client patches that were installed so it can uninstall it. I get the "Couldn't find local patch ''. Looking for it at its source." line in the uninstall file. When I look for that under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches the ENTIRE directory structure is empty. There is not a single item listed under patches.

Since the only thing that happens in between the pushing down of the WIM and installing the configmgr client is the drivers that is where I started to look. I started over with the basics (disk and network driver) and it was able to complete the OSD process (like the other 30+ models we currently support). I added drivers one by one having the system re-image each time. When I got to the Synaptics TouchPad drivers the issue would return. I've tried around 5 different drivers offered from the vendor and they all result in the same behavior.

I'm still actively troubleshooting how to FIX this issue, but I have no idea why this is going on. I thought I would share with the community on this issue and see if anyone else has observed this VERY odd behavior.

Here is a snippet from the client.msi_uninstall log:

OSD on bitockered machine: "not enough storage on disk"

Hi,

Sometimes my task sequence (sccm 2012 r2) shows "not enough storage on disk", then a diskpart helps. Probably relate to bitlocked drive. Strange thing is that it doesn't happen all the time on existing bitlockered machines.

Please advise on best practises if it's a good idea to implement diskpart, where in task sequence and how (Windows 7).

re-image after failed hard drive

Re: OSD

When a hard drive fails on an existing configmgr client we replace the drive and then try to pxe boot to re-image the computer however it fails because sccm still sees the object and aborts the pxe boot. We then have to delete the object from AD and SCCM so the user can proceed to pxe boot.

Wondering if there is a way around this so we do not have t intervene?

I know it was an issue in sccm 2012 but in r2 it is still there.
Please advise on a workaround NOT using the "build a reference image".

I have Reporting point installed and it seems to be working as I was able to run OS reports.

Here's what I would like to do.

1. I need a query/report to show us all the machines that do not have Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection installed.

2. I also need a query/report showing what machines still have Sophos AV installed.

Any help is greatly appreciated it.

Issues with SCCM 2012 and Multiple Desktop OSD

$

I have an issue with imaging and SCCM 2012. I have been using SCCM for a while to image computers when needed and it is working to an extent. The problem I am having is that when we try to image more than one computers at a time it starts acting freaky. Basically this is the process I go through.

1. Power on machine and get to Boot Selection Screen.

2. Choose Network Boot, wait for notification and press F12

3. All seems to go well, progress bar shows it is loading sometimes it will hang up and reboot here and other times it will continue on and I get the Win Server logo (Server is on Win 2012).

4. White SCCM window comes up and notification says please wait, system is starting. That stays about 30 seconds and then goes away. Sometimes it will go on in the process and give me the password screen and sometimes it lock up and go to this screen. (Link Below)

http://goo.gl/BX3fwT         (This is the screen capture of my error message)

After fighting this issue multiple times on many different machines, I think to myself "Self" if I was a Dell 780 Desktop, why would I cause Justin so many problems? I think well most likely because I don't have the correct drivers for me to communicate properly with the mother ship (AKA: Server)

So I do some research and find the WIN PE driver pack for the DEll 780 and add them to the SCCM Server and inject them into the Boot image, I update the distribution point to include the drivers and give it another shot. NO GO......  :(

This is the freaky part. If I am imaging just one single desktop or Laptop, this process goes off without a hitch, even before injecting any drivers. It only seems to occur if I am trying to image more than one computer at a time. Even funnier thing is that it will sometimes do two machines fine and then sometimes it won’t. I have never been able to do more than two at a time without experiencing any problems.

Best Part about it is that on a machine that is giving the error message that I linked above, if I reboot it and no other machines are actively imaging, it will work without any problems.

I am sorry about the length of this, but felt it was better to include as many details as possible to help narrow down the issue. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

Task Sequence warning

Running SCCM 2012 sp1.   When advertising a task sequence to software center, even if it's not an OSD task sequence, Software Center brings up a nice little warning about installing an Operating System before it kicks of the TS.

Is there a way to modify this warning so if I'm sending a TS that isn't an OSD, it doesn't freak the user out that I'm going to install a new OS?

Thanks!

Optional applications selected via UDI interface and stand alone media

$

I'm running SCCM 2012 sp1 with MDT integration.   I'm using a UDI from MDT to set some basic machine informatoin for imaging (select the OU in the domain, etc).  I also have some optional apps that a tech can select from the UDI to install during the TS.

All is working great with network based installations.  However, I have a need for some installations using stand alone media.  Is there a way to create stand alone media that will include those optional apps in the MDT UDI so that those apps can install during the TS?   I don't think there is, but there are more brilliant minds than mine out there so I thought I would ask.  Maybe there's a way to generate stand alone media via a PS script or something, and have it include the additional packages so they are on the media and can be called via the TS when it runs.

Thanks!

Applications don't install from OSD after 2012 SP1 upgrade

$

After upgrading SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1, then to CU3 (to fix a PXE issue), my OSD task sequences no longer installs any applications after the OS.  Win7 installs with all drivers, the PC is added to the domain and the correct ConfgMgr client version is installed with a healthy connection to SCCM.

However the C:\_SMSTaskSequence folder remains with the 7GB WIM file and none of the 12x applications installed.  A task sequence with the applications works when run from Software Centre.

Here's a link to the logs:

Cannot get global condition with powershell script to work during OSD application installation

$

Hi guys,

Apologies for the long therad title.

Lets take things in reverse:

I have an application that i wish to deploy during OSD. The application needs one deployment type for OSD, and one deployment type for regular installations. I've created two deployment types, and placed the one for OSD as highest priority to be selected first.

On the OSD deployment type, as a requirement, i've set a custom Global Condition in order to evaluate if the TS manager is running on the computer (which would then indicate a OSD deployment).

The custom Global Condition is created as a script with boolean data type. The script is powershell, and consists of one line to return 'true' if TSManager process is running: [bool] (Get-Process TSmanager–ea 0)

I've tested this by the command console during OSD, and the script works fine. The boolean value should then be returned to configmgr, and the requirement for my OSD deployment type to be selected for installation.

During the task sequence, i also make sure to enable the execution of unsigned PowerShell scripts using the commandpowershell.exe -Command "Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted" This command also works, and i've verified this from the command prompt during OSD using the Get-ExecutionPolicy powershell command.

However, when my application is to be evaluated the task sequence fails with the generic error 0x80004005. I can't seemto find which logs that will help me troubleshoot the problem.

I've made sure to enable powershell support for my boot image.

Can someone help shed some light on what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks.
