Win 7 x86 Task Sequence Fails on one model Dell Optiplex 380 : Error: 0x4005(16389)

$

We are able to do multiple OSD Task Sequences throughout our district, but there's a lab I try to image and every one of them fail with the following error message:

Error: 0x4005(16389)

If I PXE boot it, it works perfectly...no problem whatsoever.

The system has the client, and obviously has XP SP3.

I'm at a loss and not sure where to go from here.

I don't see any smstslog files, for it starts the task sequence and almost immediately fails.

Thoughts?

SCCM 2012 Boot image not removed from DPs when removed from console

Hello. We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 configured as one central site, three primary sites and many secondaries and DPs under all of them.

The issue we are facing is that after removal of boot image (CAS0000B) on central site this boot image was removed only in console, it is still available on all PXE enabled DPs in folder *:\RemoteInstall\SMSImages

How can we force removal of the boot image from all DPs?

Thank you

sccm 2012: osd send mails on SCCM 2012 R2

Hi,

I have found this post for SCCM 2007: http://scug.be/sccm/2010/10/01/configmgr-osd-task-sequence-success-or-failure-notification/ which sounds great.

"When operating system deployment has been launched in production , the Local Support staff would receive a simple email to say that their deployment was succeeded or not without touching any ConfigMgr console. "

I wonder though if it is still up to date for SCCM 2012 R2/what you ar using.

Note: I use this solution for central logging: http://schadda.blogspot.be/2012/01/sccm-2012-how-to-catch-errors-in-task.html, I hoped to send a mail on fail with location of logfiles.

Stubborn Regkey will not import even thou task says success.

If I copy the exact key from the task sequence into a cmd window and run it it works fine. I am trying to deploy this on Windows 7 x64 systems. if that makes a difference. I have tried enabling and disabling windows x64 redirection in the task sequence. The regkey doesn't import either way.

Software Center will not run OS task sequence after it is edited

After editing a task sequence, Software Center displays an error message and will not run the task sequence. The task sequence runs fine until I make a change to it. So far I have tried running the task sequence on another computer and re-deploying the task sequence to the collection. The message only seems to go away when I re-create the task sequence.  I've tried checking the logs located in the CCM directory but have not found anything of use. Below is a screen shot. Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks.

OSD: different pxe, question about different wim-files

Hi,

Please see this question, I'm somewhat confused about the different wim files.
I can see the default winpe.wim and a different wim next to it which has name winpe then environment then number (winpe.sccm0022.wim), what is this file.
And, like in my post, why can't I use this image to import into a pxe and boot from that?

Please advise.

error on Install Application task sequence

For our Windows 8.1 deployment using SCCM 2012 R2, the task sequences to apply the OS and install the CCM agent are successful, but not when it gets to the Install Application task sequence.  Initially, we had ticked "If an application installation fails, continue installing other applications in the list", but it managed to install none of the applications, so we ticked it to generate an error. See the smsts.log below from the C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\SMSTS folder.  What other logs can we check ?  Thanks

I can't seem to figure out why about 10 updates installed, and the rest just bomb out. I did go ahead and exclude all the folders from the antivirus, even though I'm running SCEP.

SCCM 2012R2 PXEboot enabled and WDS cannot install (0x80070643)

After the new year - I get back and find out WDS is missing from the SCCM server. I have tried many things and I am at the end, not sure what else I can try!

-uninstalled Windows assessment 8.1

-removed all boot images

-rebooted, installed Windows assessment 8.1, rebooted, imported default boot.wim, configured them be used with pxe, enabled pxe on the SCCM DP.

What's odd is it seems like SCCM thinks PXE is up and running according to distmgr.log When I enable PXE on the DP, I get this:

Looking at the CBS.log after the failed attempt to install the WDS role:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=ba16ae946915e690&id=BA16AE946915E690%213120&action=Share

Here is the CBS file zipped up:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=ba16ae946915e690&id=BA16AE946915E690%213118&action=Share

Not sure if it's related or not but I am unable to install IE10 or KB2670838. The update goes, says all is well, server reboots, configures itself and then failed, reverts, reboots two times and comes back up with failed updates.

My CheckSUR.log looks clean:

I have run chkdsk /r /f, sfc /scannow - all reporting back clean.

I thought maybe it was .net 3.5 related, I uninstalled Windows Process Activation Services, tried installing updates, WDS, same issue. They all fail. Installed the latest .net 4.5.1 as well, same issue. Didn't help.

I fired up a backup from October and WDS was running on that, so it was working a few months back. Event viewer says it was working all the way up to Jan 2, 2014 and then the WDS events stop. It's like WDS got uninstalled or deleted and never to be heard from again.

WDS Error on the day it 'left' was WDSIMGSRV Event ID 258.

The description for Event ID 258 from source WDSIMGSRV cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

0xC1030104

I know there are two things here, a few updates (ie10 that cannot be installed) and WDS failing to come back up but I have a sneaky feeling they are related somehow. If one starts to work, they both do?

Server is Windows 2008 R2 SP1, hosted on a ESXi 5.1 box, VMNICs are intel based.

No user accounts/admin disabled when deploying captured image to new machine

Good morning everyone,

So I thought I was in the clear with SCCM 2012, but not quite it seems.  I've gotten to the point where I've  built my master image complete with all the software I need my image to have (we're a school district, so we do  things a little differently).  I've removed my master image computer from the domain, and used the capture media option in SCCM 2012 to create a CD that can capture my image to a network share, so it can then be deployed elsewhere.  Problem is, when deploying that image everything goes smoothly until the end of installation, and I find myself unable to log in to the newly imaged machine.  The administrator account is disabled, and the only way to enable it is to do so through command line (or at least that's the only way I know).  Despite tinkering and reading about the issue I can't seem to figure out what I have to do through SCCM to have the default administrator account activated after imaging to a new machine.  This is the last thin holding up my deployment schedule, so you can imagine my frustration.  Apologies for any unclear description, I am brand new to SCCM and using it to capture/deploy images!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I have deployed the install os task sequence to unknown computers.

UEFI PXE wont boot. very basic setup it should work

Hi all.

I am having problems booting Uefi PXE .

The client is a VM running in ESXi

WDS/SCCM Server is VM running ESXi

DHCP is VM running ESXi.

All VMs are on the same Host and Same Vswitch.

Dhcp option 60 = PXEClient

Option 66 = *ip address of WDS/SCCM*

Option 67 = /SMSBoot/x64/wdsnbp.com

Whit the above option i can boot Legacy clients via PXE fine .but not UEFi.

I read some where i must change the  Option 67 = /SMSBoot/x64/wdsmgfw.efi

Which still does not work for me.

This setup should work as the Client server and dhcp are on the same broadcast domain.

Yes i have advertisements for All unknown Systems, and the OU of the computer.

What am i missing ?

when i try to boot a VM with EFI i get error PXE-E21

Application installation stops OSD Task Sequence

Hi!

I have an application based on a MSI-file.
After I upgraded SCCM 2012 to SCCM 2012 R2
the OSD task sequence reboots after the application is
installed and instead of continuing the task sequence the
computer boots into the login screen.

I have tried all the diffrent settings in the image below, the only
diffrence it makes is that the application installation hangs (wihout reboot)
even though the application gets installed.

How can i disable/overwrite this?

Thanks for your help

Crete Task Sequence media error

Hello. I am using SCCM 2012 to create USB Task sequence media and in my office is everything working ok. The problem is when I login to another PC in different country via RDP (with the same account I am using in my office), I am not able to create the media because of error. I run the console, start the wizard, select the task sequence, the task sequence loads list of needed packages and when I click next and the task sequence should show me list of DP I got this errorUnhandled  exception has occurred in your application.......The SMS Provider reported an error.

Before we used SCCM 2007 to build the task sequence media the same way and it was working ok (even the same step (load of the DPs) took sometimes 15+ minutes)

This is detail of the error:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration><system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /></configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Applications don't install from OSD after 2012 SP1 upgrade

After upgrading SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1, then to CU3 (to fix a PXE issue), my OSD task sequences no longer installs any applications after the OS.  Win7 installs with all drivers, the PC is added to the domain and the correct ConfgMgr client version is installed with a healthy connection to SCCM.

However the C:\_SMSTaskSequence folder remains with the 7GB WIM file and none of the 12x applications installed.  A task sequence with the applications works when run from Software Centre.

Here's a link to the logs:

EDIT: Removed paste of smsts.log file.  Added Skydrive link.

Replace Scenario : USMT Break Office 2013

Hi guys, in the midst of a project to refresh client Operating Systems - the refresh involves using the User State Migration Tool version 5 to capture user settings/preferences and data from old devices and restore to new machines once the Operating System and applications such as Office are deployed.

SCCM infrastructure is 2012 SP1. Source/old machines are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, Office 2007 and have the Enterprise Vault Add-In for Outlook version 9.0.2.1136. Target/new machines have Windows 7 SP1, Office 2013 and Enterprise Vault Add-In for Outlook version 10.0.3.1090. All operating systems are 32-bit.

USMT 5 has been extended with the hotfix for Office 2013 (new MigApp.xml) - otherwise the capture is effectively vanilla.

On machines where the User State Migration Tool is used every time Outlook is opened the following error is presented:

Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.

If Outlook is started using outlook.exe /safe it opens without issue. If I disable the Enterprise Vault Add-In within Outlook, it opens without issue.

I’ve been through the following to no avail:

A repair of Office itself fixes the problem, however this is not feasible across the thousands of machines we're looking to migrate!

What we have noted is that the issue affects every Windows profile on the machine, those copied over by the User State Migration Tool, but also new ones - so whatever is occurring is breaking Outlook/the Enterprise Vault Add-In for the machine, not a specific profile.

Finally, if we don't use USMT (not viable on the number of machines we have to replace!) I'm able to logon, and under a fresh user profile can open Outlook without issue.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
