Error after UEFI PXE Windows 7 OSD

$

Hi Everyone,

After imaging a PC using UEFI PXE I get an error when Windows 7 first tries to boot.  The error is from Windows Boot Manager.

Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."

3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000d

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Does Config manager 2013 supports windows xp unlike MDT 2013

Hi,

Just want to check if Config manager supports migration from Winxp to Win7 or win 8?

I face issues with MDT 2013 TS if i use it to upgrade machine to win 7 from win xp, just wondering if  config manager 2012 R2 supports windox deployment\upgrade?

"Application failed to evaluate" during OSD after SP1 Upgrade

$

Hi,

Today i upgraded out configuration manager from 2012 rtm to 2012 sp1. The update process completet without any errors but now i'm unable to install application during osd. The first application crashed with the message:

Installation job completed with exit code 0x00000000
Execution status received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate )

in smsts.log

I know that there are some gotcha's regarding application installation during osd after sp1 upgrade. I already did the following steps:

- Update the deployment type of the application in my osd task sequence
- Re-Add the Network Access Account
- Removed the first application in the task sequence to see if the problem is application related
- Checked the option "Allow this application to be installed.." in the application properties
- Reboot my site servers

I can install application via Software Center without any problems, also the software updates are working normally.

Thanks in advance

How to fail the task sequence if an MDT variable is not populated?

We are deploying Windows 7 using ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU3 integrated with MDT 2012 Update 1 using the MDT database locations table to populate the MachineObjectOU MDT variable.

Currently the "Apply Network Settings" task will read the MachineObjectOU variable and add the computer account to the OU returned by the MDT database query.  If no value is returned it will not domain join the computer, instead it continues the task sequence and configures the machine as a workgroup machine.

I would like the task sequence to fail if the MachineObjectOU variable is not populated by the MDT database query instead of continuing as a workgroup build.  What is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks!

OSD SCCM 2012 R2: 1 logfile per deploy?

$

Hi,

I followed this guide to have central logfiles for OS deploy: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=systemcenter2012configurationmanager&forum=configmanagerosd

This created a folder with smsts.log, smsts-dateofdeploy.log and wpeinit.log.

My questions:

1.I probably don't need wpeinit.log(?)

2.what's the difference between smsts-dateofdeploy.log and smsts.log?

3.can I use the smsts-dateofdeploy.log through the whole task sequence as reference log?
That would mean I' d use this command cmd.exe /c copy %_smstslogpath%\smsts-*.log L:\SuccessFull\%_smstsmachinename% to gather the logfile

and that option (3.) would be the solution for me?

Please advise.

Task Sequence warning

Running SCCM 2012 sp1.   When advertising a task sequence to software center, even if it's not an OSD task sequence, Software Center brings up a nice little warning about installing an Operating System before it kicks of the TS.

Is there a way to modify this warning so if I'm sending a TS that isn't an OSD, it doesn't freak the user out that I'm going to install a new OS?

Thanks!

MDT boot images for MDT Task Sequence in Configuration manager

Hi,

When we have integrated MDT with configuration manager, is it mandatory to have MDT Boot images as well to support MDT based TS ? or default boot images (x64, x86) that is there in configuration manger could be used with MDT based TS?

Does MDT boot image points to MDT server share in configuration manager? or it still connects with Configuration manager?

Trying to understand the need for MDT boot images in configuration manager when it comes with default boot images already created and available. Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks.

Cannot load generic boot images

I've been having an issue where when I PXE boot to my SCCM server, it starts to load the Boot Image but then reboots immediately, leaving me in the same place I started. My assumption was that the Boot Image was corrupt, so I went to delete the image from the DP and Config Manager. Now when I go to add the boot images back into CM, I browse to the location where they're stored and I get a blank Boot Image drop down list. Has anyone seen this before? I've included a picture of what I'm talking about.

USMT to User State Server (PXE) sccm 2012 r2

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I have spent quite a bit of time searching and not really finding any good material or if it was even possible.  Our information security officer wants us to scrub all of our assets during the reimage process.  This eliminates the possibility of doing hardlink USMT through PXE.  We start all of our images from PXE and don't make the reimage task sequences available through the operating system

My question is there a way to back up to the USMT server from PXE?  We are currently running on 2008 R2 and SCCM 2012 R2.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi All,

Please confirm if WDS shows "Online-restart pending" status in WDS , will result in stoppage of OS deployment process.

Also let me know what will be the reason for this status.

Service Pack for Proliant installing successfully but returning failure in OSD task sequence

Building bare metal servers with SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 OSD and running into an issue with HPs where they attempt to install the Service Pack for Proliant 2013.02.0.  I am using a package with a program.  Here is the program command line:

Hpsum.exe /use_latest /allow_non_bundle_components /current_credential /silent

The application installs successfully but there is a distinct delay and then errors thrown that fails the TS.  Setting 'continue on error' is a work around but not what I want to have in the production environment.  How can I get around this issue? This is the same exact package and program that ran perfectly fine in SCCM 2007, but we are seeing this as a new issue since the migration to SCCM 2012.

I'd like to solve this issue as well as get rid of the "Waiting for job status notification....InstallSoftware"

Any suggestions?

Hi,

The error is in the title, the screenshot below:

Where should I look for possible errors (F8 to check logs doesn't work, after reboot Windows 7 (Enterprise X64) reboots again and again). Note: it's on a vm -ESXi 5-.
Thanks for your advise!

J.

Note: 2 Deployments were assigned to the colleciton in which the machine was. Removed one now, could that be the case?

When deploying OS using same hostname the TS fails?

HI

If re using the hostname with OSD the client does not become active for a long period of time.

by deleting the device object from Configuration Manager, running a full AD discovery and collection update the client starts to work normally within 10-20 minutes.

SCCM 2012 SP1 was working before installing SP1

Any ideas?

Hey Guys, I am working for this from a long time but not able to make it work, I am using following batch script for installing IIS  using SCCM 2012 task sequence:

Dism.exe /online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:IIS-WebServerRole /FeatureName:IIS-WebServerRole /FeatureName:IIS-WebServer /FeatureName:IIS-ApplicationDevelopment /FeatureName:IIS-Security /FeatureName:IIS RequestFiltering /FeatureName:IIS-NetFxExtensibility /FeatureName:WAS-WindowsActivationService /FeatureName:WAS-ProcessModel /FeatureName:WAS-NetFxEnvironment /FeatureName:WAS-ConfigurationAPI /FeatureName:NetFx3 /FeatureName:WCF-HTTP-Activation /FeatureName:WCF-NonHTTP-Activation /FeatureName:IIS-WebServerManagementTools /FeatureName:IIS-ManagementConsole /FeatureName:IIS-ManagementScriptingTools  /FeatureName:IISIIS6ManagementCompatibility /FeatureName:IIS-ManagementService /FeatureName:IIS-Metabase /FeatureName:IIS-WMICompatibility

When I run this script as admin by right click on it and select "run as a administrator" the script works fine but when I pushed the script as a software package or a step in OSD task sequence, nothing happens. I also triedrun command line option but no luck. Please help me with this.

Thanks,

VST

Hi,

Just wondering if it would be possible to use this method to capture a data drive (drive e:) which is in essence a partition on my master machine. this partition is a non os partition, just data, config files and such. I am aware that the method I linked to below works great for a simple create wim of an OS partition/drive.

SCCM 2012 SP1 OSD Setup windows and configmgr fails

Hy,

we have problem with SCCM 2012 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 with OSD. When task sequence reaches Setup windows and configmgr it fails with following error:

0x80091007 hash value is not correct.

If i create new package from definition for sccm client, then it works for couple of computers 2-3, then error appear again..and so on.

Today we setup clean install of Server 2012, SQL 2008R2 sp2, and SCCM 2012 sp1. Pxe boot worked for 2 computer, then fails again with same error.

We tried with different images, Win 7 enterprise and professional, with captured image, but still the same.

Content validation is always OK.

There is no antivirus software

SCCM 2012 R2 OSD Very slow at Driver package and config manager client stage still after KB2905002 has been applied

Hi,
Now that I've applied KB2905002 and updated client, boot images etc, my image process is a lot faster again for most of the task. HOWEVER, it is still very slow at Apply Driver Package and Set up windows and config manager client.

After that step has completed, everything is speedy again. It does not matter which computer model it is in the task, they are all slow at downloading - as in around 1 hour to download.

The step in the task is just a WMI query on that model computer.
Happens for Win 7 and Win 8.1.

Anyone else having the same issue?
