OSD TS Fails during package download - SendWinHttpRequest failed. 80072ee2.

Hi there,

I have a SCCM 2012 R2 environment running on Windows Server 2012 on VMWare Workstation 10.0.1. My TS is deploying Win7x64 to another VM. I am using MDT integration and the first action after "Setup Winodws and ConfigMgr", and restarting from WinPE to Win7, is "Use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Package". It always downloads part of the package before it fails on a seemingly random file.

From the F8 prompt i am able to ping the MP/DP. From the MP/DP I am also able to download the file in question using Internet Explorer. From my viewpoint this looks like a transient network error, but I am open to any suggestions at this point. I have also seen the TS run through without a hitch once, so it seems like it's not perfectly consistent.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could cause this? Where should I be looking? Any troubleshooting tips?

Random OSD Error

$

I run SCCM 2012 R2.  We started imaging a new Dell model, and lined up about 10 laptops to image.  Out of those, 3 came up with the following error in the SMSTS.log:

CAppMgmtSDK::GetEvaluationState failed, error = 0x87d00244 (which translates to The object or subsystem has not been initialized)

This error repeats 3 - 4 times

Then I get the error below, which looking up appears to be a reboot

Failed to open to WMI namespace '\\.\ROOT\CIMV2' (8007045b)

The sequence gets as far as laying down the WIM, then going thru and pulling the MDT toolkit package, and actually downloads the first app to be installed, then when attempting to install the first app it kicks out the error.

Identical models sitting next to it running the same sequence finish fine.

the only thought I have is that I am imaging many machines at once, I don't use multicast.

Anyone run into this before?  I've still got the failed machine to look up more info if I'm missing something.

thanks

Tony

Installing IE program

Hi ,

I am facing issues with installing IE 11 as program through config manager 2012 R2.

I have created package and created program . I am using 'IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe /quiet /norestart /update-no'

as command line to execute the instaalation. I see step 'install package' copies  the bits but doesn't proceed with the installation. I have not selected 'continiue on error' and installation fails but i am not able to see anything in logs . Any pointers \log file that could help here.

Enable shell

Hi ,

I am using WinPe 3.1 and not able to enable shell support. 'EnableLabShell' value goed back to 'False'. I don;t get any error during saving it to 'TRUE' but still it shows be 'False' Once i'll close wbemtest and reopen the instance again.

I am following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/dn387582.aspx

  1. You can enable a command shell in the boot image to debug and troubleshoot it in Windows PE. Use the following steps to enable the command shell.

    1. In the Configuration Manager console, click Software Library.

    2. In the Software Library workspace, expand Operating Systems, and then click Boot Images.

    3. Find the new boot image in the list and identify the package ID for the image. You can find the package ID in the Image ID column for the boot image.

    4. From a command prompt, type wbemtest to open the Windows Management Instrumentation Tester.

    5. Type \\<SMS Provider Computer>\root\sms\site_<sitecode> in Namespace, and then click Connect.

    6. Click Open Instance, type sms_bootimagepackage.packageID="<packageID>", and then click OK. For packageID, enter the value that you identified in step 3.

    7. Click Refresh Object, and then click EnableLabShell in the Properties pane.

    8. Click Edit Property, change the value to TRUE, click Save Property, and then exit the Windows Management Instrumentation Tester.

WIM Backup before OSD

Hi,

I had a TS in CM2012 SP1 that did an upgrade from WXP to W7, and in that TS there was a step that created a WIM backup of the system before wiping the drive and installing the new OS.

Since upgrading to CM2012 R2, that element of the TS no longer works - when running ZTIBackup.wsf I'm now being prompted for credentials. The OSD upgrade TS is an MDT in CM.

If I create a custom TS to take a WIM backup it works no problem, not prompted for any credentials and the WIM is created.

The issue only arises when being run within MDT TS.

I've also tried adding the TS variables into the CS.INI in the MDT settings package but get the same results, prompted for credentials.

Any ideas?

thanks,

S

SQL CPU spike during apply device driver

We're experiencing an issue in which during the Apply Device Drivers step in a task sequence, it will consume a lot of resources on our site server.  Specifically, if multiple machines are at that step at the same time (say 10 or more), it can potentially peg all CPU's at 100%.  At which point, some of the devices will fail to image due to a lack of response from SQL / the site server.

We have our drivers broken out into generic desktop, laptop & "legacy" categories.  The entire driver catalog consists of 1200 drivers, which most people imaging select "install only the best matched compatible drivers" from all categories.

Our DB server / site server consists of 8 vCPU & 32gb of ram.  Our site has ~4000 clients, is running SCCM 2012r2 w/ plenty of network / disk (only when CPU is pegged do we see this issue).

Is this expected behavior of SCCM 2012 / SQL?

Can not update either PE

I've always been able to add drivers to my PE images but after upgrading to R2 I can no longer do that. Can you take a look at my 64 bit errors please, see what you think?

Also - I'm not able to even add another boot image, from any location so maybe its just a permission issue?

Preparing network connections = reboot...

Hello.

Im really new to System Center and have gotten the respenoibility in our IT department to configure it and to keep it updatet with the latest drivers for our clients.

Recently we bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T440 laptop. When i tried to reinstall windows 7 using SCCM 2012 i got to the point where it said "preparing network connections" then it disapeared and all i could see was a blank SCCM background. After a few seconds the computer rebooted.

So what i have tried to do is:'

I downloaded the SCCM driver pack from Lenovo for the T440. Imported it into SCCM, added it to a driver package (wich i made new) and added it to a x64 boot image, since this was the x64 drivers. Simply following the import driver wizard. What i did next was to distribute the driver package to the DP and then i updated the DP with the boot image.

All the right network drivers are there and i still get the same fault... A rebooting client after "preparing network connections".

Appreciating all answers and tips :)

Edit: The driver package i found on Lenovo is a driver package for SCCM and is called SCCM Package for windows 7 (x64).

How to trick SCCM 2012 R2 to use fixed disk

$

We have bought a sh-tload of Kingston datatraveler workspace 32gb in order to use them as OS installation media.

However because of this: "Windows 8 Certificationrequires flash drive manufacturers to configure flash drives as fixed disks. Flash drives configured as fixed disk will show up in Windows Explorer as 'Hard Disk Drives'." - The SCCM task sequence media creator willonly look for removable media, it willnot look for fixed drives. So we can't use the USB-drives..

Any solution?

In-Place Refresh with PGP

Forgive me - I know that this may not be the most appropriate forum, considering my issue involves Symantec PGP/SED, but this is where the experts are.

My company (regretfully) chose to use Symantec PGP Whole Disk Encryption (now know as Symantec Encryption Desktop) to encrypt our laptops.  Symantec provided great information on creating a boot image with PGP drivers, but it doesn't work well for in-place refreshes.  My refresh task sequence leverages USMT to capture data, then restarts to WinPE.  Before restarting, the TS runs a command which tells the machine to skip the PGP preboot authentication, but even after skipping that, once the boot image loads the TS fails because TSenv.dat was stored on the encrypted disk. There is a command I can issue to get access to the encrypted disk, but at that particular stage in the task sequence I don't have a way to issue the command before the TS engine goes looking for the environment file.

Slow Application Deployment on New Computers

Hello

I am new to SCCM so I don't know if this is normal behavior or not but when I deploy an OS to a new computer, it usually takes overnight before any applications are installed.  I don't see them in the Software Center no matter how many times I run the Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle or the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle until a day later.

I am on a small network with one primary site.  SP1 was slow but R2 seems worse.  Is this normal for SCCM or can I speed this up?

This is my AppDiscovery.log after running the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle:

HP Elitebook 820 reboots after loading wim file.

Hello,

I am trying to use PXE boot for new models of HP Elitebook (820, 840 and 850), when I run PXE on my 820 model I get to the point where I click F12 to get in, it loads the wim file and welcome screen shows up. This is where it, after a few seconds, reboots the computer instead of asking for password as it normally does on older models (8440p, 8470p etc). I have downloaded WinPE drivers from HP SoftPaq Download Manager and added them into the boot image, and updated distribution points.

Anyone got some suggestions on how to fix this?

resolving selected task sequence dependencies for a prestaged image super slow! (40min)

$

hello, I've created a prestaged image, containing all the needed packages for the task sequence, total size is around 23gig

now, after copying it to the targeted computer's hard drive (hyperV Vm) and rebooting, then selecting the corresponding TS, it does the "resolving task sequence dependencies" for more than 40 minutes.

I don't see any relevant error in the smsts.log, it's just processing each file at a time.

is that a normal behavior?

is there a way to speed up the resolving process (or bypass it alltogether).

In those package I have a lot of drivers packages for different model (so a lot of file.)

here is an extract of the smsts.log file, some errors but nothing critical I think... it's just slow.

Hi,

I am using offline hardlink for migrating XP to Windows 7 . I am observing that user desktop background is not migrated . Is there any changes i need to make to .xml file to include user desktop settings or it should happen automatically by default .xml file with USMT?

Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks.

There are so many posts on this topic I'm a little embarassed to have not found an answer I could make sense of.  I'm hoping someone in the forums can help-

I'm working to deploy SCCM 2012 in my environment and keep getting an abortpxe.com error while trying to deploy my Windows 7 reference image to a VM.  Specifically, I get this error:

I'm running SCCM 2012 on Windows 2012 as a hyper-v guest on server on a 2012 server. Tthe distribution point is PXE-enabled and is enabled for unknown computers.  The task has been deployed to the unknown computers collection and it appears to be working when using a physical machine.

The VM is also on a Windows 2012 Hyper-V host (a different host, not that it should matter).  The VM has a legacy NIC installed.  When I look at my SMSPXE.log, I don't see any clear errors.

PXE, WDS and DHCP Option 66 and 67 PXE-M0F: Exiting

Hello,

I have configured DHCP options 66 and 67 to point to my site server running WDS and SCCM 2012 R2 with a DP with PXE enabled.

My DHCP server is on 10.1.54.199 and my sccm server is on 10.1.184.60 whilst my client is on 10.1.141.245. I have set the options in DHCP to 10.1.184.60 and SMSBoot\x86\wdsnbp.com

When i boot my client I get

Client MAC:xxxx GUID:xxxxx

Client IP: 10.1.141.245, MASK: 255.255.254.0, DHCP IP: 10.1.54.199

Gateway IP: 10.1.140.1

TFTP.

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

Can anyone offer any help on where to begin troubleshooting this? Previously this has all worked but the server was recently moved to a new IP address and VLAN where IP helpers are not configured. This method worked a treat for us in 2007 but for whatever reason not in 2012?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 - like computer name (should we rename it during migration or keep it as is?).

- USMT like what should be migrated?

Psl. share any pointers\suggeations. Thanks in advance.

UDI Wizard Designer Add Wim to Image Combo Box Value Select Operating Image "Image Invalid"

I am using the UDI Wizard Designer 3.1.1305.23. What I'm trying to do is add images to the Image Combo Box Values under Volume Page. When I select Image Combo Box, Add Wim, select operating system, it returns the following. From what I can tell UDI Wizard Designer is successfully connected to my Configuration Manager Server, because it validates.

Any ideas on why it doesn't see the Image files from Configuration Manger?

Win 7 x86 Task Sequence Fails on one model Dell Optiplex 380 : Error: 0x4005(16389)

We are able to do multiple OSD Task Sequences throughout our district, but there's a lab I try to image and every one of them fail with the following error message:

Error: 0x4005(16389)

If I PXE boot it, it works perfectly...no problem whatsoever.

The system has the client, and obviously has XP SP3.

I'm at a loss and not sure where to go from here.

I don't see any smstslog files, for it starts the task sequence and almost immediately fails.

Thoughts?

Brand new Dell Latitude E6430 taken out of the box and then powered on.  Somehow, SCCM 2012 R2 knows about it and the PXE boot fails.  I use task sequences to advertise to unknown computers.  I've imaged several other computers so I know everything works.  It's just this one computer that SCCM seems to somehow "know" about so the task sequence for unknown computers doesn't apply and I get the following entry in the SMSPXE.log file...

F0:1F:AF:6A:B1:4C, 4C4C4544-004C-5010-8044-B3C04F465A31: no advertisements foundSMSPXE2/14/2014 3:58:06 PM2976 (0x0BA0)

I've spent a long time now (a few hours) trying to figure out how to build a report to find this device and remove it so the task sequence will be found and apply.  Everything I have tried has not been able to return a result for the above GUID (4C4C4544-004C-5010-8044-B3C04F465A31).

This is how we image new computers now and for this to be feasible, we will need to have a simple way for the computer technicians to address this problem if they come across it.

Any advice on how to handle this situation would be greatly appreciated.
