OSD Task Sequence: Domain Join by Name

$

I currently have a problem with my OSD Task Sequence for Windows Server 2012 R2.

I have mutliple "Apply Network Settings" Steps, which joins the server into different OUs. For the determination i use a WMI Query: select * from Win32_ComputerSystem where Name like "DC%"

That works for my Server 2008 R2 Task Sequence like a charms, but when i run it with a 2012 R2 Image, all steps are evaluated as false.

Is there a better way (option) to check if the current system name begins with a defined string?

Thanks in advance

Install fails at "Generating public key and SQL Server certificate"

I'm attempting to install a Child Primary Site and am running into an issue.

Currently there is a CAS and another Child Primary Site already deployed and running fine.

I've re-installed the SQL instance for the Site I'm having an issue with as well as re-installed Server 2008 R2 for this site.

During install I'm getting the following:

Failed to retrieve SCCM-SQL.domain.local SQL Server SerializedEncodedCertificate.  $$<Configuration Manager Setup><02-11-2014 08:47:54.180+480><thread=4572 (0x11DC)>

Dell E7240 'Failed to find a valid network adapter' using SCCM OSD Task sequence

I am having an issue trying to build a
Dell Latitude e7240 laptop using OSD.

I imported the drivers from the dell enterprise site.

I created a driver package.

I added the i217-LM nic card to the boot media because I received an error saying it cold not find a valid network adapter when i ran the sequence.

The bios is up to date.

I also tried the driver from the intel site to see if that makes a difference.

I recreated the boot media and i still get the same issue.

I have tested the driver we are using and it works on that pc.

Anybody have any ideas on troubleshooting or what I might have missed?

Distribute content failed on sccm 2012

Hello all,

As part of OS deployment, I first did a 'build and capture' a Windows 2008 x64 bit image (.wim) and saved it as part of a shared folder (with full permissions). Next, I wanted to create a 'Operating System Images' under 'Software Library' and was successfully able to add the .wim image previously created. Next, I wanted to 'Distribute content' to Distribution Point (DP) which happens to be the same server as my Site server and where my 'shared' folder is.

As part of this 'Distribute content' when I check the 'content status' under Monitoring, I see the status in 'RED' (Failed). I checked the 'more details' on the error status and found this:

Can anyone help me understand what is missing and what needs to be done. I'm also going through documentation to troubleshoot this. thanks

Hi,

I am trying to build win7 os on lifebook e series model. I have imported right driver (confirmed after executing standalone image through USB) in to SCCM console. When I image the laptop, it is taking only the network drivers of that model and connecting to the domain. other drivers like USB, PCI etc nothing is getting applied.

I reimported several times still the same problem. Any help please

Boot Image localization

Hi everyone!

I was reading a post on a forum which was providing a script to set the localization of a boot image as a prestart command. The script is providing a way to load another language as a displayed language when selecting a task sequence.

I am running ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

I am trying to load the French language using that script. The script seem to work and the language is set but half of the text is translated:

I know that this feature was available in ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 and unfortunately I do not have an environment of that kind right now but I was wondering if this was the same behavior or that it is a problem in the R2 release (WINPE 5).

If anyone could give me more information about that would be nice and I will post a follow up as soon as I can reinstall a ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 environment to validate this.

Thank you all

Mathieu

wpeinit -unattend not working

In SCCM 2007, I used the (Wpeinit –unattend:"C:\Unattend-PE.xml") method by modifying the Startnet.cmd in order to run a prestart command in my boot images (wim) but for some reason this is not working for me in SCCM 2012? The Unattend-PE.xml contains the setting "Microsoft-Windows-Setup/RunAsynchronous" to run a command. I realize there are other methods to run a Pre-Start command in SCCM 2012 but I want to continue using the Wpeinit -unattend: method so please reply on this method only.

The wpeinit.log shows the following:

WPEINIT is processing the unattend file [D:\SMSTaskSequence\WinPE\WinPeUnattend.xml]

which is not the Unattend-PE.xml I specify in the Startnet.cmd. I have verified all of the files are in their proper location by opening up a command prompt (F8-command support) once the boot image is loaded. Something seems to override the Startnet.cmd that is in the X:\Windows\System32\Startnet.cmd? If I manually run the Startnet.cmd from that location it works!!

As step in Task Sequence : Deleting all existing partitions on harddrive before partitioning, is it possible? Thoughts appreciated

Everyone,

I have just received a load of 100+ computers off corporate lease for the school district I manage, and while imaging them in SCCM, i've noticed that of those 100 computers about 7 or 8 have failed during the task sequence.  Just on a guess, I tried booting up off a windows 7 disk and physically deleting all partitions and THEN running the task sequence it fixes the issue and the task sequence jumps off/completes without any problems (which there's only been one main partition and one system reserve partition).

My question to you all, I want ALL computers that run my task sequences to completely wipe ALL partitions...and then go forward with the standard partitioning step that's in the task sequence (Step name Partition Disk 0 - BIOS, where it sets up a 350mb system reserve and then a 100% remaining space NTFS windows Primary partition)

Can someone point me in the right direction?  I feel this is a simple process to add to my task sequence, but I wanted to confirm with some of you that might can ease my anxiety a bit first.

Thanks so much!

Deploying Japanese OS fails

I am trying to create a Japanese Windows 7 SP1 x64 reference image.  I can create English and French using the same steps but Japanese fails.  This support doc...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2691543 outlines the problem very well.  I'm getting the exact same error message.  The recommended fix is to download the Japanese version of the Windows ADK and then import the Japanese boot image into SCCM and use that with the task sequence.

The only problem is that I can't figure out how to get the Japanese boot image.  I go to the download page for the Windows ADK v8.1 and I choose Japanese as the download language.  I do the install but the boot image included is still the English boot image.  I thought maybe adksetup was detecting the language of my local OS and installing the same boot files.  So I installed Japanese Windows 7 and tried the install again.  Everything is in Japanese but it still includes the English version of the boot file.  Can anyone help?

SCCM 2012 SP1 MDT task sequence fails on reboot does not retain ip

we are having a sccm 2012 sp1 server that used for installation of win 8.1 Enterprise , the task sequence works perfectly fine but when we  run the same task on HP Elite 8300 system having Intel 82579LM Adapter from Windows XP , after the reboot the task fails as no ip address is assigned the NIC , We did download the WInPE Adapter drivers from HP site and injecting to the x86 Boot Image (6.2.9200) however the task still fails ,

Our environment uses all static ip address , the same task as mentioned earlier has worked fine with Different brands of HP elite 8200/8100 , infact the elite 8200 also uses the same NIC card

Server 2012 R2, EFI and vSphere 5.1 = Hang during OSD

I'm currently testing Server 2012 R2 deployment via SCCM 2012, on a VMware Virtual Machine.

I've run into an issue where if the VM firmware is set to EFI instead of Legacy BIOS the machine hangs during the Task Seqeunce - the OS image is downloaded and written to disk, the machine reboots to continue with the TS and then hangs at the blue Windows logo, never to progress any further - screenshot here, same issue with Windows 8:

http://www.cb-net.co.uk/microsoft-articles/34-configmgr/2078-configmgr-windows-8-uefi-and-vmware-esxi-5

ESXi platform is version 5.1, Virtual Machine Hardware Version is 9 - tested with version 8 as well.

Has anyone got this working successfully?

Thanks, Chris

Powershell error OSDComputername Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {XXXX} failed

Hi,

We are currently trying to automate the naming process during OSD with a powershell script:

$ComputerModel = (Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem | Select-Object Model).Model
$SerialNumber = (Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumber).SerialNumber
# Workstations
if ($ComputerModel -match "HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF") {
    $OSDComputerName = "FDT-" + $SerialNumber
    $TSEnv = New-Object -COMObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment
    $TSEnv.Value("OSDComputerName") = "$OSDComputerName"
}
# Laptops
if (($ComputerModel -match "HP ProBook 6570b") -OR ($ComputerModel -match "HP ProBook 650 G1")) {
    $OSDComputerName = "FLT-" + $SerialNumber
    $TSEnv = New-Object -COMObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment
    $TSEnv.Value("OSDComputerName") = "$OSDComputerName"
}

When we include this script, the name is unchanged.
When we check the logs and try to run it locally, we get the following error: New-Object : Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {XXXX} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not regist
ered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

If we look this up, we come by many people who say it has to to with 64-bit vs 32-bit processes but if we run the script using the powershell ise x86 it gives the same error. Do you have any idea why we get this error?

Thanks in advance!

Sven

UDI based USMT for win XP To Win 7. What variables need to be defined in Cs.ini

Hi,

I am looking for some pointers to configure UDI (created mdt based TS) to do capture and restore for user data\Profiles during refresh scenario from Win XP to Win and Win 7 to Win 7. It is Config manager 2012 R2 with MDT 2013 Integration.

What variables need to be defined in customsettinng.ini to do USMT through UDI. Is it mandatory to have User state migration point in place? since i can see in UDI that we can map some network path (not sure has to be user state migration point share) , USB and local. Any pointers will be appreciated. I believe referesh scenario can only work if it starts from within OS and will not work from WinPE (boot system from 'Boot media' or 'offline media')? I need to login to windows and run the TS either as Deply advertisment or launch it from 'boot media' or 'offline media'. any pointers.  'Thanks

Re-directed folders not moved during 'Refresh' migration

$

Hi all

We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 integrated with MDT 2012 Update 1 to migrate from XP to W7.  'Replace' migrations work fine but only because we logon to W7 to cache the old re-directed folders location (serverA), move user in AD to new OU with new re-directed location (serverB), reboot, login again, run restore (loadstate.exe) script, then check the re-directed folders point to the correct location (serverB) and all files/folders are present.

However, when we use the MDT Task Sequence to perform a 'refresh' migration it's a fully automated process so we do not have the option to cache the old re-directed folders location (serverA) first, etc. Instead, when we logon to W7 for the first time, the 3 re-directed folders (Documents, Desktop & Favorites) have re-directed to the new location (serverB) fine but only the Documents folder is populated with files/folders, not Desktop or Favorites. On closer inspection, the files/folders for Desktop & Favorites have been restored to their local equivalents, not the re-directed folders. We believe this is because W7 did not cache the old re-directed folders (serverA) before it could move them to the new re-directed folders (on serverB).

We would rather not have a post-build task to manually/automatically move the files/folders to the correct Desktop & Favorites folders.

Is there a better solution please?

Thanks
Scott

Problem with Capture with SCCM 2012, reference computer name still in WMI

Hi!

Its a weird thread name! I Know! My problem is that I have captured an image with SCCM 2012 and when i try to request a "machine policy retrieval" through powershell i get results:

PS C:\Windows\system32>  $SMSCli = [wmiclass] "\\.\root\ccm:SMS_Client"

PS C:\Windows\system32> $SMSCli.RequestMachinePolicy()

__GENUS          : 1
__CLASS          : __PARAMETERS
__SUPERCLASS     :
__DYNASTY        : __PARAMETERS
__RELPATH        : __PARAMETERS
__PROPERTY_COUNT : 1
__DERIVATION     : {}
__SERVER         : VM-TEST7
__NAMESPACE      : ROOT\ccm
__PATH           : \\VM-TEST7\ROOT\ccm:__PARAMETERS
ReturnValue      :
PSComputerName   : VM-TEST7

PS C:\Windows\system32> $SMSCli.EvaluateMachinePolicy()

__GENUS          : 1
__CLASS          : __PARAMETERS
__SUPERCLASS     :
__DYNASTY        : __PARAMETERS
__RELPATH        : __PARAMETERS
__PROPERTY_COUNT : 1
__DERIVATION     : {}
__SERVER         : VM-TEST7
__NAMESPACE      : ROOT\ccm
__PATH           : \\VM-TEST7\ROOT\ccm:__PARAMETERS
ReturnValue      :
PSComputerName   : VM-TEST7

PS C:\Windows\system32> hostname
Desktop0999

As you can see the __SERVER and PSComputerName resolves to VM-TEST7 which was the name of my virtual reference machine i used to capture the image with and after I have deployed the image on another machine and name (Desktop0999) I still see tracks of the reference computer.

Everything seems to be working but when i run the methods it takes a very long time for it to complete compared to a computer with an image captured with pure MDT. I don't know if it tries to find in this case VM-TEST7 anywhere but does not find it and it times out.

I had this problem with SCCM 2007 as well but thought that it would be resolved now in 2012.

Any one know if there is a way around this? Should I care?

Thanks!

SCCM 2012 -OS images not transfering to DP ERROR Detail will be available when server finishes processing the message

I am having issue with some application, packages, and images pushing from my Primary SCCM server to the secondary servers and DPs.

I am thinking that the issues are all related so I am going to just talk about the image that I am having a problem with push.

The image has successfully transfered to the Primary site, and secondary sites, but it is having a problem with a DP. The error that shows up in "Content Status" says "Detail will be available when server finishes processing the messages". All the servers are 2008 R2 server, with SCCM 2012 SP1.

I would take a look at logs for this, but I am pretty new to SCCM, and I'm not sure which log to look at for additional information.

Thank you for any help that can be provided.

I am wanting to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 during Build and Capture for Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise.  I would like to deploy it then so it's gets patched as part of the Software Updates also installed in the Build and Capture.  Can someone share a sample unattend.xml that demonstartes how to add .NET Fraemwork 3.5 SP1.

Thanks,

Mike
