Hi,

I have a very strange issue.

I have one image where after deployment the domain users were part of the administrator groups. I added some patches offline using DISM command line and updated the image and deployed.

However this new updated image have issue is that domain users are not appearing in administrator groups.

Please let me know what could be the reason for this.

Task sequence:Restore Data TS failed With Error code 0x00004005

Standard time for deploying operating system.

Hi All,

What is the standard time required to complete OS deployment process ?

Does it depend upon following,

Operating system selection like WIN7,WIN7 thin, WINDOWS 10.

Real time performance- load on the BDP server,

Bandwidth consumption-LAN utilization,

No of concurrent images started at a time. [10,20,50,100]

No of packages/applications selected in the image.

Current running Task sequences in SCCM Server.

Please suggest any others things need to be considered and which other factors may affect deployment.

Thank you.

“The task sequence execution engine failed execution of a task sequence. The operating system reported error 2147942634”"

However as checked found that below could resolve the error

  • Try to refresh the package's distribution point (refresh, not update):
  • While doing USMT Capture process on multiple machines, they were stuck with error message "Site Management --> Computer Management --> Operating System Deployment --> Operating System Install Packages --> PACKAGE_NAME --> Distribution Points --> Right click on the Distribution Point you're using and choose "Refresh Distribution Point"
  • If it doesn't work, try to remove the distribution completely and re-add it (you must WAIT for it to complete the removal before re-adding it, you can use the Package Status to make sure it was removed)
  • If all else fails, go to Site Management --> Computer Management --> Software Distribution --> Advertisements --> Right click on the task sequence advertisement you're deploying and choose "Properties" --> Distribution Points --> check "Access content directly from a distribution point when needed by the running task sequence".

Please check and advise how to avoid this issue, any reason which causes this issue.

Please advise.

OSD Task Sequence Fails to Import Registry / Other Batch File Items

$

Hi All,

I've been trying to work with SCCM's task sequence to add another step to our build. The step can be broken up into a few parts:

1) Copy files from our network share to the Program Files (x86) of the client

2) Import the registry entries to the client machine

3) Place a link to the program in the Start Menu

4) Copy some additional .dll files into the program folder in Program Files (x86)

The steps that seem to have issues are 2 and 3, with the registry entries never appearing and no link in the start menu. I've tried various methods to get this to work properly. At first I attempted to create a script-based application, which called a simple batch file with instructions on what to do. This step was never able to complete when deployed in the TS. I tried again and was able to get a little further, however no registry updates or link was placed on the machine.

Secondly I tried splitting the steps, with the file transfer in a scripted batch app as before, while using the command line option pointing to a single-script package to trigger the registry import. This also fails, and now the Task Sequence fails outright (generic 80004005 error) with no further information in smsts.log.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but there is some x64 and x86 cross breeding going on, as this is a 32 bit program. I should also note however that running the batch file from the local machine works fine (everything goes where it should) and runs correctly.

You can find an example of my batch file command below, if it helps:

xcopy "\\domain.local\filesystem\Software\Client\*.*" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Client\*.*" /s/e/h/y/c

xcopy "\\domain.local\filesystem\Software\Client\Clientx64.INI" "C:\Programdata\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Client.INI" /s/e/h/y/c

reg import "\\domain.local\filesystem\Software\Client\ClientRegistryKeys.reg"

regsvr32 /s "C:\program Files (x86)\Client\ClientBin\bridge.dll"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dusty.

Offline Operating System Image Servicing Schedule Does Not Run

$

Hello community,

We have noticed an issue with scheduled offline servicing of our operating system images and have been unable to come up with a solution yet. We are running Configuration Manager 2012 R2.

When I launch the Schedule Updates wizard on any operating system image I am prompted to choose the updates to install as expected. When prompted to set the schedule if I choose to run it "As soon as possible" and complete the wizard I can immediately see the primary site start copying the .wim file to the drive, mount it, etc... the process completes as I would expect.

If I set a "Custom schedule" in the future (minutes, hours, days, etc...) the scheduled updates job never runs. In the console it will sit in a "Scheduled" state indefinitely.

In the OfflineServiceingMgr.log file after I schedule the servicing I can see the job being scheduled:

The next run time for the Schedule with ID 16777304 is at Tue Jan 17 17:12:00 2017 Eastern Standard Time

I see this message at the very bottom of the log:

No more schedules need to be run at this time, one or more schedule(s) are found to be run in the future.

Will sleep till the earliest found wake-up time.

The next wake up time is found to be at 'Thu Mar 31 18:08:00 2016 Eastern Daylight Time'

If I look at the site services I see that the SMS_OFFLINE_SERVICING_MANAGERservice is stopped. Note that the "next wake up time" is set far in the past. Does this mean that the service is never waking up to see if it has scheduled jobs to run?

I have found that if the scheduled start time has passed and I manually start the service using the Configuration Manager Service Manager the missed schedule is run and the patches are applied. While that is happening the service is running and then stops when the process finishes. If I schedule a new job after that the same thing happens, it never runs and sits in the Scheduled state.

This is logged when the service is manually started and a job was scheduled to run in the past:

The Schedule with ID 16777305 will be run now. It's run time is at Tue Jan 17 12:32:35 2017 Eastern Standard Time

There are also a number of messages like this:

This Schedule with ID 16777292 does not have a next run time

I have seen those errors noted in logs others have posted but it isn't clear to me if those are a problem or not, they may be completely unrelated.

This has me stuck and any help the community can provide would be much appreciated and I can provide any into that may be helpful. It would be much better if this worked for us so the servicing could happen off hours.

Thanks ahead of time!

SCCM CB - How to get the custom LANG.INI file (Windows 10 1607) deployed by the SCCM?

Hi,

I am trying to solve this problem: how to get the custom LANG.INI file which is supposed to be in the Sources folder of the Windows 10 1607 media deployed by the SCCM?

  1. Generated the custom Windows 10 reference image using the MDT.
  2. Followed Add Language Packs to Windows https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/commercialize/manufacture/desktop/add-language-packs-to-windows and injected the 2nd language pack into the Windows 10 reference image.
  3. Generated LANG.INI file which included the 2nd language pack.

Need help: how to deploy the LANG.INI file with the updated dual-language Windows 10 reference image via the OS deployment with the SCCM?

Many thanks, in advance!!!

Best approach to setting IP addresses of multiple NIC's

Hi all,

I'm creating a task sequence to deploy and configure Server 2012 R2 DC using offline media.

Each server will need different IP/subnet per NIC and there are 8 in total.

I'm trying to determine the best way to approach configuring each of the NIC's with specific static IP's as there is no DHCP. Each build will require different IP's/Subnets etc across each of the NIC's.

The easiest way for me/our organisation would be to prompt the person doing the deployment for their input . I know offline media has this facility but I'm unsure how it would handle multiple NIC's, I can't find info relating to this specific scenario on the web.

Anyone come across this sort of deployment or have any suggestions, or ideas? Or know if I have more than 1 NIC offline media will prompt for each?

Windows 10 x64 wim - Image Index

Our current environment is running Windows 7 x64 Ent. When I look at the OSD task sequence I notice that Image Index 2-2 is being used and the task sequence ONLY runs when this is selected.

Question:

  1. Why can it only be run using Index 2-2? What dictates this behavior?
  2. How do I modify the Windows 10 x64 Ent "Install.wim" to show Image Index 2-2 when imported into SCCM?

Deploy a VM to a Windows workstation with SCCM

Hey everyone,  could someone help me out here?  I know SCCM has the ability to deploy a VHD, but...

I want to deploy a preconfigured Windows 7 hyper-v session to a Windows 10 1607 system.  I assume I will have to use DISM or something to enable the Hyper-V service, but its actually importing it in that would be the problem.

Thanks

Our Build Task Sequences Have Suddenly Become Unreliable.

$

Hi all,

Hope someone can help.

Since last week our SCCM isn’t completing build task sequences.  They seem to be failing during software installation and sometimes before that at the driver package or updates stage.

Windows 7 machines generally fail at the software installation stage again at random points. I have noticed that we have a black background instead of our normal background when building.

Windows 10 seems to be failing after drivers and doesn’t install any additional software. All machines are on the domain with the correct operating system

The windows 7 machines have a folder on the C drive called _smstasksequence which normally indicates the task sequence didn’t complete successfully as this folder is normally deleted after completion. There are four log files in the folder which looking at with CMTrace show numerous errors.

The only thing that has changed in the last week is we had two new model laptops (HP Probook 430 and a HP Probook 650 G2) which we created a new driver package for. (Wondering if any of these drivers have overwritten other drivers such as the Intel network card driver)

Previous task sequences which we never change have also produced the same error and issues as above

Log file below is for the HP 650 G1

SCCM 2012: Offline Servicing for Operating System Images

Hi,

We're trying to services our OS images (.wims) through SCCM. However when we right-click the OS Image and choose for 'Schedule Updates' we don't see all the updates. The image targeted is a freshly captured Windows 10 enterprise 1607. The updates I can see:

However, we do import ALL the updates in SCCM for Windows 10 (shown below).

Server: Windows Server 2012 R2

SCCM: 1610

Windows ADK: 10.1.10586.0 (It's this version because there's a bug in the last version according to our SCCM-expert (netSH codes?))

Is this also a bug, or is there something else going on?

Thanks in advance,

Sander.

SCCM 1610 - Installing Pre Production Client during Task Sequence Windows 10

Hi,

We have install SCCM Build 1610 and deploy the client to a validation collection. (5.00.8458.1007)

In the same time we have modify the master task sequence Windows 10, and check : "Use Pre-production client package when available" in the step Configure Windows and Configuration Manager.

On the box Pre-Production Client Package we have browse to the Pre-Production Package : "Microsoft Corporation Configuration Manager Client Piloting Package"

At the end of the task sequence we don't have the Pre-Production Client on the computer but the production client (Old client 5.008412.1007)

How can we use this functionnality in the task sequence for validated the pre-production client in the Windows 10 Master Task Sequence.

Thanks for your help

Question on reimaging "known" devices

Here's the scenario:

For whatever reason, say a computer needs a reimage (Windows gets corrupted, user leaves the company, etc). I have setup an SCCM task sequence to install Windows 10 and deployed to all unknown computers. Since this computer is known it will not find any available task sequences deployed to it. This seems like a common scenario but when you need to reimage laptops daily, is the only way around this to actually delete the resource out of the database? Is there a more efficient way people are doing this? Deploying to all Workstations seems scary, but other than that, I don't know what else to do. Just wanted to see what others are doing?

Hi Experts,

Recently we found that all the T560 models which are reimaged through SCCM have a common issue.

"C:\ProgramData\Synaptics\ValidityService.log" file grows to 60 GB size.

Is this a known issue. What is the fix for this. Please help.

My 840G2 and 650G1 hardware not booting after loading Windows 7 X64 bit os using SCCM OSD method. But it works when i change the BIOS to Legacy or Hybrid UEFI.

Secure boot is disabled but still same error. Can you suggest ?

Thanks,

Rajith.

Hi,

Is there a way to point an sccm client (during or after) OSD to another SCCM-server then registering it there correctly?

J.
