RDS OSD: correct steps to take

$

Hi,

I'm looking for the right steps to create an RDS 2012 task sequence.
The basics of Windows 2012 R2 are covered but howto do the last steps?
I can hardly imagine I'm the only one who needs this and don't want to reinvent the wheel, so hoped to find a guideline.
I have multiple RDS collections so the task sequence should go to a different collection depending on what collection I put it in.

This is what I have so far, not sure if it is in the correct order:

1.Install desktop experience in several steps:
https://www.sepago.com/blog/2013/07/19/adding-feature-desktop-experience-on-windows-server-2012-breaks-configmgr-task

2.Add RDS to collection via add-rdsserver -server -connectionbroker -role  'RDS-RD-SERVER'

3.Integration into RDS
"Add-RDSessionHost  -SessionHost  -CollectionName

Please advise on install, also on how I would best make a seperation of RDS collections of RDS server.

Hi,

I have been experiencing issues deploying Windows 10 to Surface Pro 3 and HP Elite X2 1012 G2tablets.

- Windows 10 Enterprise 1511
- Surface Pro 3 & HP Elite X2 1012
- SCCM 2012

The deployment fails and exits during the Enable Bitlocker step in the task sequence with the following error:

I have googled the error codes but I have found a conclusive solution. Does anyone have know the cause or how to resolve this issue ?

ifM63x64.sys file missing or corrupt.

Hello,

I am currently trying to install windows7 on a HP Elitebook 820 through PXE.

What happens is that after the first restart attempt, after disk partition and applying windows 7 image and drivers i get error: File: ifM63x64.sys

 Status: 0xc0000098

Info: Cannot start Windows because of file missing or corrupt.

Anyone got an idea? The file "ifM63x64.sys" is the "Intel Ethernet FCoE Virtual Storport Miniport Driver".

I have tried both with and without that driver in my driver package for that machine model with same result.

Simulate Prestage TaskSequence Without Operating System

Hello,

I explain my wish :

My taskSequence had many big app ( Office/Skype and other) and my client have little debit. I manage installation with custom computer variables  (so I need network, i can't use offline media ). In my TaskSequence, I don't have operating system, only app. I want to simulate the prestage scenario, with taskquence that use local content instead of content on DP. So I create prestage wim, with an operating system ( I have to ) them I extract "SMS" folder on C:\ ( other file is just for OS ). I start Task sequence, on software center, but TS download all content on DP.

My question is : There is a variable/file on the wim to say " look content on local " ?

Best regards

Hi,

When assign  'Install Software Updates' in a task sequence, you only get 2 chinces

1. Mandatory Software Updates

2. All Software Updates

We would like to install selected software updates (i.e. Office only or selected Windows 7/8/10 only )

What is the best practice/method to install selected software updates in the task sequence?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Dear Sir,

I have created task sequence for refresh scenario in SCCM 2012 R2 SP2, enablement as below:

  1. Boot Image 64 bit
  2. Select my master image
  3. Clear selection of partition and format
  4. Clear selection of bitlocker
  5. Supply local admin password
  6. Join domain
  7. select my sccm client package
  8. Capture user settings + save locally + Capture locally by using hardlink
  9. Capture network + capture ms windows

My questions:

  • before running TS:OS is installed on drive C
  • when I am applying TS on computers, I am getting: wiping Drive D, then Apply image to volume D!!!!
  • after it finish, the OS drive letter is X or D, and all user profile are not available
  • What should I do, so I can have my OS on C and user data inplace?

Hi,

I am installing SCCM 2012 R2.

I have installed ADK Windows 10.

I get the following at installing SCCM 2012 R2:

The questions are:

Is it possible to use ADK W10 from the beginning?

Does the ADK 8.1 must be installed first?

Thanks!

SCCM Client tries to install to DVD drive

Hello All,

I am currently experiencing trouble with Lenovo ThinkStation P300 and P310 systems, containing a 1TB HDD and a DVD-drive. The customer is still using SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU 1 (1203). The task sequence is a standard TS that installs a previously captured wim, containing most updates and using the PreserveDriveLetter variable set to "false". The format step is set to BIOS and one single large partition. The OS is targeted to a driveletter stored in a variable, so the parition is given the variable "OSDisk". Windows is successfully installed to C: at this point.

When installing Windows 7 Enterprise on the systems, when the client install comes up, it tries to install itself on the DVD-drive, which is D: at this point (verified by starting diskpart and checking volumes).

The client.msi.log clearly shows this:

Application doesn't installes in task sequence

I made a task sequence to deploy an operating system threw PXE.

In the first attemp the installation of the windows went well but nothing of the applications that I attched to the task did not install.

Than I tried to deploy it again and it got an error in the middle of the installation and after getting the sms log, I figured put that there was an error while installing the applications threw that method (although I checked the box that says if application does an error, continue).

So I just deleted the "install application" task and ran the deployment again, and the windows got deployed...

What do I need to do to make the applications to work?

Thank you

Integrating SCCM with MDT.

Ok, i have 2 questions. I have a server with sccm where the console was intergrated with mdt a couple of years ago but never done anything with, and now its just giving an error when you click create mdt task sequence. Is the best option to integrate it with mdt 2013 update 2 by removing the old extension that is already there with the confgiMgr integration, and then integrating it again?

Question 2: I have read that you have to integrate SCCM with MDT as a user that is part of the SMS admin gorup, is this necessary?

lpksetup.exe within TaskSequence and %WINDIR%

$

Hello everyone,

within one tasksequence I have to install some windows language packs online to my Windows 10 X64 Operating System
(unfortunately due to the requirements it is not possible to install them offline).

I already prepared all my language pack packages with script programs containig the following line to apply the language pack:

"%WINDIR%\System32\lpksetup.exe" /i * /r /s /p "%~dp0CAB\"

Unfortunately within the tasksequence the language pack is not applied.
So I investigated some further more and found with help of procmon, that lpksetup process is not even executed.
With some help of internet search I was able to figure out this problem appears more often because SCCM TaskSequence is running as X86 process, being redirected to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\lpksetup.exe which of course does not exist.

To make sure this applies to me I copied lpksetup.exe into SysWOW64 folder previously to running my TaskSequence and voilà: lpksetup.exe is executed.

My question now is WHY does this error appear?
%WINDIR% should be the same - independent of X64 or X86 architecture. And system32 is a hard coded path ..why does this even redirect to SysWOW64?
Here is a screenshot from procmon information I captured within my tasksequence - there I can see that C:\windows\System32\lpksetup.ex is executed...NOT C:\windows\SysWow64\lpksetup.exe
(Sorry screenshot is a bit small - maybee need to zoom a little bit :) )

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT:
Don't get me wrong - I know how to solve it (e.g. good article here: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/aaronczechowski/2011/12/18/deploying-windows-7-language-packs-via-configmgr/ )etc. my request is understandy WHY it is even redirected when I use %WINDIR%\System32

Our Build Task Sequences Have Suddenly Become Unreliable.

$

Hi all,

Hope someone can help.

Since last week our SCCM isn’t completing build task sequences.  They seem to be failing during software installation and sometimes before that at the driver package or updates stage.

Windows 7 machines generally fail at the software installation stage again at random points. I have noticed that we have a black background instead of our normal background when building.

Windows 10 seems to be failing after drivers and doesn’t install any additional software. All machines are on the domain with the correct operating system

The windows 7 machines have a folder on the C drive called _smstasksequence which normally indicates the task sequence didn’t complete successfully as this folder is normally deleted after completion. There are four log files in the folder which looking at with CMTrace show numerous errors.

The only thing that has changed in the last week is we had two new model laptops (HP Probook 430 and a HP Probook 650 G2) which we created a new driver package for. (Wondering if any of these drivers have overwritten other drivers such as the Intel network card driver)

Previous task sequences which we never change have also produced the same error and issues as above

Log file below is for the HP 650 G1
